Nebius Group on Wednesday reported higher-than-expected first-quarter capital spending, driven by investments tied to the procurement of graphics processing units and data center hardware for its core AI cloud business. The company has grabbed a slice of the lucrative AI and cloud infrastructure market by providing Nvidia GPUs and computing platforms to developers. However, analysts have flagged Nebius' heavy capital spending as a major concern as the company aggressively expands its global data center footprint, putting pressure on margins despite strong revenue growth.

Welcome to Going Private , I’m Sinead Cruise and this is Bloomberg’s twice-weekly newsletter about private markets and the forces moving capital away from the public eye. Today, we explore the controversial dividend recap deals lining the pockets of private equity players, the sliding demand for private credit among US corporates and a massive financing opportunity within Apollo’s and Blackstone’s grasp. But first we look at how two erstwhile rivals are teaming up in Europe’s booming credit secondaries market. If you’re not already on our list, sign up here . Have feedback? Email us at goingprivate@bloomberg.net You’ve Got a Friend There are few rivalries in European direct lending as noted as that between Ares and Arcmont Asset Management . For more than a decade, the two firms have gone toe-to-toe with one another in origination and fundraising. Lately, however, that good-natured competition has taken on a different tone. Ares is lead buyer on Arcmont’s $2.5 billion credit secondaries transaction — the largest such deal ever completed in Europe. The milestone trade is not only notable for its size, but for the meeting of minds between two long-standing opponents, which could have significant implications for the burgeoning market for secondhand fund stakes. Such cooperation would once have been unlikely. Credit secondaries transactions typically require the consent of the underlying fund manager, a fact that has historically stymied the sector’s growth. Many firms have been reluctant to grant rivals visibility into their portfolios during due diligence, wary of surrendering valuable client relationships or any competitive advantage. “In private credit, it could be quite easy, if you have someone else’s portfolio, to go down a list of names, approach borrowers, and refinance them at tighter spreads,” said Arcmont CEO Anthony Fobel . “Not that I’m suggesting people would do that but it’s a pretty simple thing to do.” Establishing trust, therefore, is critical, parti...

Welcome to Tech In Depth, our daily newsletter about the business of tech from Bloomberg’s journalists around the world. Today, Sangmi Cha delves into the epic rise of South Korea’s two biggest companies and the world’s most indispensable suppliers of a once-boring computing part. Tech Across the Globe EBay says no: The company’s board turned aside the unsolicited takeover offer from GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen. EBay called the bid “neither credible nor attractive.” Waymo recalls robotaxis: The Alphabet company is pulling thousand of its driverless cars off the road after one of the autonomous vehicles tried to drive through a flooded street. The robotaxis need an urgent software fix . Jensen gets less: Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s pay package decreased 27% to $36.3 million in fiscal 2026 after the value of his stock awards declined. The company’s shares are up 18% so far this year. Other AI chip companies are growing at a much faster pace . Revalued Wispr AI, the maker of a popular voice dictation tool , is in talks for a new funding round that would more than double the value of the startup to $2 billion. Menlo Ventures is set to lead the fundraising, which may reach about $260 million. The startup was valued at $700 million in November. Spicy stocks The equity market in South Korea is sizzling, and it isn’t because of a viral noodle challenge . It’s driven by the one product the world treated as a boring, frumpy commodity for years: memory chips. The conventional DRAM that used to live quietly inside your PC or smartphone is now affecting everything from profit margins on Nintendo consoles to the prospects of AI data center expansion across the world. More so than cultural exports, it’s now thrust Korea into a kingmaker role in the global economy. Tech lynchpins Samsung and SK Hynix, the nation’s two largest companies, are the go-to providers of the suddenly scarce component. Despite the AI gold rush, the so-called Korea discount — a perennial markdown on Korean stocks ...

Klaus Vedfelt/DigitalVision via Getty Images Performance The portfolio underperformed the MSCI ACWI index (in US dollar terms) over the quarter. Despite portfolio holdings generally delivering robust results, performance was hampered by two trends in the market. First, asset light business models experienced a broad sell-off due to concerns over AI disruption; and second, rising bond yields led to a de-rating of quality and growth stocks. The portfolio's lack of exposure to Energy, which was the top performing sector, was an additional headwind. At a stock level, concerns over AI disrupting business models particularly impacted three sectors: Industrials, Financials and Information Technology (IT). Within Industrials, the portfolio holds companies offering services, such as credit rating bureau Experian ( EXPGF ), while investors sought out heavy asset, low obsolescence ('HALO') stocks in industries that are largely outside of the focus of the strategy. Similarly, in Financials and Information Technology, software based service providers – such as electronic payments provider Adyen and software system integrator Tyler Technologies ( TYL )– were de-rated along with the broader software sector. Health Care holdings also came under pressure as the rise in bond yields led to a de-rating of growth oriented companies, such as Intuitive Surgical ( ISRG ) (despite it delivering strong earnings). While not a significant contributor to relative returns, the underweight position in Real Estate was positive, with real estate investment trusts such as Ventas ( VTR ) performing well. Market dynamics have been unfavorable for the portfolio, yet the drivers of growth, such as innovation in healthcare, provision of financial services, skills training and equitable connectivity, remain intact. Market overview Global equity markets finished the period lower despite a strong start to the year, reflecting a quarter of two distinct halves. Early support from solid corporate earnings, fal...

This delivery method applied everywhere. Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Windows came in a box, and so did the Office suite. Adobe (NASDAQ: ADBE) Photoshop came in a box. The box contained floppy disks, then CDs, then DVDs. Enterprise-class stuff like the Oracle (NYSE: ORCL) database may have come on a roll of magnetic tape in the 1980s. You also got a manual nobody read and a registration card nobody mailed. Whatever software you needed, you paid for it once. Then it was yours forever. Continue reading
