China’s Eve Energy Co. agreed to supply India’s Godawari New Energy Private Ltd. with large-scale batteries, as a rapid renewable power expansion drives demand for energy storage in the South Asian nation. The Chinese group will initially provide batteries with a capacity of 8 gigawatt-hours of storage, which could be expanded to 60 gigawatt-hours over the next five years, according to a statement from Eve late Tuesday. The value of the deal and timing around supply of the first batteries wasn’t disclosed. Demand for large-scale batteries is expected to accelerate on the back of a global energy transition, which has become more urgent after the conflict in the Middle East upended energy markets. The worldwide storage market exceeded the 100-gigawatt mark in 2025, and is poised to grow by another 41% this year, according to analysis compiled by BloombergNEF . The deal between Eve and Godawari also highlights how Chinese companies are leveraging the ongoing Middle East crisis to expand their overseas footprint. The country’s exports of lithium-ion batteries surged 34% year-on-year in March, according to figures released by the government. The Indian market remains small, with about 0.9 gigawatt-hours added in 2025, according to BNEF. As much as 5.4 gigawatt-hours are expected to come online this year, and could expand further to 393 gigawatt-hours in 2036, making it the sixth-largest market for energy storage, BNEF said.
