The OpenAI chief rejects claims he deceived Elon Musk as high-stakes AI trial nears its end Sign up for the Breaking News US newsletter email The OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman , took the stand on Tuesday to defend himself and his company against a lawsuit by Elon Musk . Altman is set to be one of the final witnesses in the trial, which has pitted two of the tech industry’s most powerful men against each other in a dramatic courtroom showdown. Musk has accused Altman and OpenAI of breaking the AI firm’s founding agreement by restructuring it into a for-profit enterprise, alleging that Altman essentially swindled him into co-founding the company and providing tens of millions in financial backing. Musk also claims Altman unjustly enriched himself in the process and is seeking the CEO’s removal from OpenAI, the redistribution of $134bn to the firm’s non-profit and the undoing of its for-profit conversion. David Einhorn laid out a bullish case for a group of out-of-favor companies at the Sohn Investment Conference on Tuesday, betting that operational turnarounds and artificial intelligence adoption could drive sharp a rebound in overlooked stocks. "We're finding interesting investments where management is repositioning businesses towards more durable, more disciplined, more generative growth," Einhorn said. "The value creation question is whether management can convert the strategic change into better visibility, better margins and eventually a better multiple." The Greenlight Capital founder pitched five investment ideas in New York, focusing on companies he said are in a transitional period with catalysts for growth. Acadia Healthcare Among Greenlight's top ideas was Acadia Healthcare , a leading operator of behavioral health hospitals and clinics in the U.S. Einhorn said the company's newer facilities are underutilized and that the key to unlocking value will be raising occupancy rates and negotiating improved reimbursement terms with insurers. "Acadia needs to bring these recent openings to the target occupancy rates, back to 70 or 80%, and negotiate better reimbursement rates with managed payers," he said. The hedge fund manager said a 10 times multiple could translate into share price around $56, or double the current share price. Centene Greenlight also highlighted Centene, arguing the health insurer could become a major beneficiary of AI by automating labor-intensive claims processing functions. "Artificial Intelligence is well suited to automate manually, repetitive functions. We think Centene could be a huge beneficiary of AI in this fashion," he said. Einhorn said the company struggled in 2025 with rising medical costs that outpaced annual price adjustments, but he sees significant upside if margins normalize. Applying what he called a conservative valuation multiple of 10 to 12 times earnings, Einhorn said the stock could be worth between $85 and $102 per ...

MARA Holdings ( MARA ) stock fell about 6% in the last 24 hours after a sharp market reaction, even as investors digested its latest AI-focused infrastructure move tied to the Long Ridge acquisition . The company is acquiring a 505 MW combined-cycle gas asset with about $144M annualized EBITDA, 1,600 acres, and the potential to expand beyond 1 GW, marking a ~65% increase in owned power capacity. The management argues AI demand is not waiting 7–10 years for new builds. The Long Ridge Energy campus, located in PJM, gives immediate access to power, fiber, gas, and grid connectivity at below the estimated $1.6–2.7B replacement cost. With over $2.5B net liquidity, including Bitcoin ( BTC-USD ) holdings and cash, MARA says it is repositioning from pure Bitcoin mining toward energy-backed AI and HPC infrastructure, aiming for faster monetization of connected power. Over the past week, the stock is up just 0.12%, underperforming the S&P 500 ( SP500 ), which returned 0.82% in the same period. Sentiment remains divided. Seeking Alpha Quant Rating views MARA as a "Hold," while Wall Street analysts are more bullish with an average rating of 3.76 (Buy). Overall, market reaction reflects short-term volatility over the long-term AI shift trend. More on MARA Holdings MARA Holdings, Inc. (MARA) Q1 2026 Earnings Call Transcript MARA Holdings, Inc. JHVEPhoto/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Shares of Dow ( DOW ) have been a solid performer over the past year, gaining about 25%. The chemical sector has faced substantial challenges from significant excess supply and weak demand, forcing companies like Dow to cut the dividend, close plants, etc. However, the outlook has brightened as the Iran War has largely eliminated this supply overhang, given disruptions in Middle East exports. I last covered shares in February , downgrading Dow to a “Hold,” which was a mistake as I did not anticipate the war or Strait of Hormuz closure. Since then, Dow has added about 25%, meriting a continued "Buy" rating. With updated financials and such significant geopolitical developments, now is a good time to revisit shares. Seeking Alpha Before the conflict, the operating environment was still fairly weak. In the first quarter , Dow lost $0.14, which was $0.15 better than feared even as revenue declined 6% to $9.8 billion. Volumes were down by 2% from last year, partly due to some of Dow’s own operations being disrupted given the conflict. Pricing was a 7% headwind on a constant currency basis. During March, we began to see the impact of the conflict, and this should send pricing meaningfully higher starting in the second quarter. This positions Dow to both increase utilization at its non-Middle East plants to gain market share and replace that lost global output while pushing price to restore margins. Given weaker pricing, EBITDA was down $71 million to $873 million. Frankly, this was an encouragingly small drop. DOW kept EBITDA margins nearly flat to last year, which in a capital-intensive business like this is impressive during such a revenue decline. Dow has worked very aggressively to cut costs, reduce headcount, and close unprofitable facilities. These efforts, while painful, have helped to meaningfully improve the operating efficiency of the company, protecting margins, and providing material cash flow upside as the cycle tur...

RBC analyst Ken Herbert sees Aevex's ( AVEX ) as a unique pure-play drone exposure as a positive—but with likely eventual expansion into adjacent markets—with a strong competitive moat around production capacity, software capabilities, and cost control. While acknowledging the lumpiness in the business as a less-diversified defense prime contractor with award timing as a risk, Herbert said Aevex ( AVEX ) is well-positioned to capture a meaningful share of the growing UAS market—the FY 2027 Department of War request calls for ~$74B in drones/counter-drones, a 3x increase Y/Y; key near-term opportunities include U.S. Army Launched Effects, OSD One-Way Attack, U.S. Army Long Range Precision Strike, and U.S. CENTCOM AOR. Christopher Dilts | Bloomberg | Getty Images A new futures market for semiconductors will let traders hedge their artificial intelligence investments with bets on the increasingly expensive price of computing power. Contracts on the new "compute futures market" from CME Group will be based on graphics processing units (GPU) price indexes from Silicon Data, the companies said in a statement released Tuesday announcing the joint venture, which still is pending regulatory review. The new market will let investors lock in a price for computing capacity based on a GPU benchmark, which can be used to hedge against rising GPU rental rates and other operational costs in the enormous and multifaceted AI buildout. "GPU markets ... have historically lacked standardized reference pricing," Carmen Li, chief executive of Silicon Data, said in the release . "The launch of compute futures is an important step toward giving AI builders, cloud providers and investors more reliable tools for valuation, hedging and long-term planning." Futures markets are traditionally associated with basic commodities like foodstuffs, metals, and petroleum products, but they've also popped up for assembled components in rapidly developing segments of advanced industrial sectors. During the broadband explosion in the late 1990s, the broadband services division of Enron aimed to sell unused capacity on its network of fiber optic cables prior to the company's spectacular failure. Silicon Data sells access to specialized price indexes to clients, similar to the consumer price index or personal consumption expenditures price index, except for semiconductors. Its products include a standardized GPU price index, a RAM index and projections for GPU rental prices. Wall Street doesn't see demand for GPUs, or more traditional central processing units (CPUs), slowing down any time soo...

Micron Technology and Sandisk are among the hottest stocks on the market, delivering stunning returns to investors over the past year due to phenomenal growth in their revenue and earnings. Both semiconductor stocks have benefited from the incredible demand for memory chips used in artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. Moreover, memory demand has been so strong that Micron and Sandisk are unable to fulfill the same. As a result, memory prices have jumped significantly in recent months. Given the healthy demand for memory chips, which isn't going away any time soon, manufacturers are focused on bringing additional capacity online. This is precisely why shares of Lam Research (NASDAQ: LRCX) have shot up by 293% over the past year. The good news for investors is that this AI stock has the potential to deliver more upside. Antonio_Diaz Zillow Group ( Z ) ( ZG ) filed a federal antitrust lawsuit on Tuesday against Compass ( COMP ) and Midwest Real Estate Data, or "MRED," alleging that they colluded to hide home listings from buyers and conspired to punish Zillow. Compass ( COMP ) stock dropped 4.1%, and Zillow ( Z ) shares slid 2.6% in late afternoon trading. Compass is the U.S.'s largest real estate brokerage, and MRED is a multiple listing service that serves the Chicago area and parts of three neighboring states. The two entered a partnership in April 2026 to expand MRED's private listing network nationwide. Under the agreement, Compass agents anywhere in the U.S. were allowed to enter listings into MRED's system in order to “protect” those listings from transparency platforms like Zillow, Zillow contended, adding that the explicit purpose was to extend MRED's monopoly beyond the Chicago region. The partners sought to pressure it into hiding home listings from certain buyers, "an anti-consumer practice Zillow prohibits on its apps and sites," Zillow said in a blog post. “Defendants conspired to threaten to cut off Zillow’s and any other competitors’ access to all listings — a critical input for competition in the industry — in a naked effort to coerce their competitors to abandon pro-transparency policies,” the complaint said. J Studios/DigitalVision via Getty Images By Jennifer Nash Gas prices continued to climb this week, hitting their highest level since July 2022. As of May 11th, weekly prices were up 5 cents for regular and premium, marking the third consecutive weekly increase. Currently, the national average for regular gasoline stands at $4.50 per gallon, with premium averaging $5.45. These prices represent a significant jump since the start of the year, with regular gas up 60% and premium up 45%. Compared to one year ago, regular gas is 44% more expensive (up from $3.12), while premium has seen a 34% increase (up from $4.07). Gas Prices by State According to GasBuddy, regional price disparities have widened significantly, leaving a $2.26 gap between the nation’s highest and lowest averages. California currently holds the highest average for regular gas at $6.15, while Oklahoma offers the cheapest at $3.90. While nearly every state in the nation is now averaging over $4.00 per gallon, a clear geographic divide has emerged. The West Coast continues to lead the nation in fuel costs, though the ceiling has moved higher. California now stands alone as the only state with an average surpassing the $6.00 mark. The remainder of the West Coast (Alaska, Nevada, Oregon, Hawaii, and Washington) all maintain averages between $5.00 and $6.00. The most dramatic shift is seen in the middle tier; there are now 39 states across the West, Northeast, and Midwest falling into the $4.00-5.00 range, signaling a broad national increase. Conversely, the number of states with relatively lower prices has dwindled significantly. Only five states (Oklahoma, Louisiana, Georgia, Mississippi, and Texas) remain below the $4.00 threshold, with these lowest averages concentrated primarily in the South. Behind the Price: Components and Inflation To understand these surges, it is helpful to look at the "price at the pump" as a sum of its parts. The retail price of gas is made up of four main components: 1) cost of c...

Clary | Afp | Getty Images From New York to Vancouver to London, a once-niche policy idea is moving into the mainstream of urban finance: taxing pied-à-terre properties , second homes, vacation apartments, and luxury units that sit partially or entirely unused. New York City is just the latest example, with new Mayor Zohran Mamdani and New York State Governor Kathy Hochul supporting the tax as part of a state and city effort to make up a big budget hole . In a new budget proposal this week, Mamdani dropped plans to raise property taxes on many middle-class homeowners, a move that could have been a difficult one for Mamdani to politically stomach, but kept the pied-à-terre tax idea. The idea has already resulted in a political crisis for the mayor after he posted a video standing outside the building where hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin owns a unit, leading to well-known politically conservative Griffin's first vocal pushback against Mamdani, and a threat to pull business from New York in the future. While that's a tension that has been expected to percolate between the billionaire class and new socialist democratic mayor, real estate sales in the city remain strong. And there is a more fundamental question about this new form of property tax for New York to now contend with: does it work? There are existing examples from around the world to help in trying to answer it. Versions of second-home and vacancy taxes exist globally, across several major housing markets. In Canada, Vancouver's " empty homes tax " and a federal " underused housing tax " are among the most prominent examples. Toronto recently followed with its own vacancy levy . As housing affordability worsens, rents continue to rise , and fiscal pressures mount, cities are increasingly targeting what are often highly visible symbols o...

Apple Inc. is planning to upgrade its Camera app, making the software fully customizable as part of a broader set of user interface changes coming in its next iPhone software update. With the new approach, users will be able to choose which features appear in the Camera app — and where they’re placed. That includes controls for flash, exposure, the timer and resolution, according to people with knowledge of the matter. In addition to offering a more personalized experience, the changes should appeal to professional users, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the move hasn’t been announced. The next major iPhone software update, iOS 27, also will include noticeable design changes across several areas, including the Siri digital assistant, system search and apps such as Safari, Image Playground and Weather. Apple is also planning systemwide changes, such as new animations and redesigned tab bars. On Tuesday, Alphabet Inc.’s Google announced its own operating system and artificial intelligence updates. The company unveiled Android 17 and Gemini Intelligence, adding new features like the ability to create home screen widgets with AI. There’s also a new Rambler dictation mode that filters out common filler words and the ability to handle tasks such as syncing grocery lists from a notes app with a food delivery app. Apple is set to unveil the new iOS and revamped Siri, along with other updated operating systems, on June 8 at its Worldwide Developers Conference. The interface changes are meant to streamline the Liquid Glass design language, which was introduced last year. An Apple spokesperson declined to comment on the upcoming announcements. Here are the design changes planned in iOS 27, according to people familiar with the situation: Camera: Apple is planning to make the Camera app interface fully customizable so users can pick their own set of controls — called widgets — that run along the top of the interface. Earnings Call Insights: IMUNON (IMNN) Q1 2026 Management View Dr. Stacy Lindborg (President, CEO & Director) said the company entered Q2 “with continued momentum” after announcing “the final clinical data from our completed Phase II study OVATION 2,” adding that “the pivotal Phase III study, OVATION 3, is advancing well, and we remain on track to randomize approximately 80 patients by the end of the first quarter of 2027.” Dr. Lindborg emphasized financing strategy alongside trial timelines, stating, “We’re solving this dilemma in 2 ways. First, through a disciplined bridge financing strategy… Second, by structuring these financings in a creative manner designed to minimize dilution and limit pressure on IMUNON’s share price,” including “the upside of a deal utilizing preferred shares… have no warrants… and would also increase shareholder equity.” Dr. Douglas V. Faller (Chief Medical Officer) framed the Phase II dataset as the key driver of investigator interest: “Our Phase II OVATION 2 clinical data showing a clinically meaningful 14.7 month median overall survival benefit… remains highly compelling to investigators,” and added, “Study enrollment is progressing nicely and remains on track with current sites performing well. Safety data remains clean and consistent with prior clinical results.” Jeffrey W. Church (Interim Chief Financial Officer) linked operating discipline to the OVATION 3 ramp, stating, “We continue to manage our cash position prudently through targeted financing activities, cost-saving initiatives and operational efficiencies,” and reported R&D expense of $2.3 million, G&A expense of $2 million, and “net cash used for operating activities was $4 million” in Q1 2026.
