Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Marty Makary speaks during an announcement at the Department of Health and Human Services on Dec. 18, 2025 in Washington, DC. Alex Wong | Getty Images Dr. Marty Makary is out as FDA commissioner, President Donald Trump said Tuesday, ending a controversial tenure at the health agency. Makary is "a wonderful man and he's going to be off, and the assistant, the deputy, is taking over temporarily," Trump told reporters on Tuesday. He added, "He's going to go on, and he's going to lead a good life." Several news outlets reported that Makary resigned on Tuesday, which followed days of reporting that the White House was planning to fire him. Kyle Diamantas, who previously worked as the top food official at the FDA, will step in as acting commissioner, according to reports. Trump on Tuesday did not name Diamantas. Makary, a surgical oncologist known for criticizing the government's handling of the Covid pandemic, had reportedly fallen out of favor with both FDA staff and the White House in recent months. He served as head of the agency responsible for regulating food, drugs and medical devices for more than a year. His tenure was marked by internal dysfunction and leadership turmoil at the FDA, along with mounting backlash from drugmakers, physicians and patient groups on regulatory decisions, including high-profile rejections of some rare disease treatments. At the same time, the White House reportedly grew increasingly impatient with what it viewed as his slow movement on Trump's key policy initiatives, such as legalizing flavored vapes. Makary has touted his accomplishments as commissioner, including his priority voucher program that accelerates review times for certain drugs. But staff morale at the agency plummeted after layoffs and departures of career agency scientists, including longtime cancer regulator Dr. Richard Pazdur, who cited Makary's leadership as his reason for leaving. Meanwhile, distrust of leadership has reporte...

raisbeckfoto/iStock Unreleased via Getty Images Cisco Systems ( CSCO ) options are signaling a significant earnings reaction, with May 15 monthly contracts pricing in a roughly 8% move following the networking giant’s fiscal third-quarter results scheduled for Wednesday after market close. With shares trading around $98.50 a share in Tuesday midafternoon trading, near-the-money straddles suggest traders were positioning for about an $8 swing by Friday expiration. The 98, 99 and 100 straddles were all valued near $8.00 on mid-pricing, implying a post-report range of roughly $90.50 to $106.50. Options activity showed notable upside focus. The 100 call emerged as the key battleground with 2,784 contracts traded and 11,348 in open interest, while the 110 and 105 calls also drew significant volume. This concentration suggests traders are watching closely to see if Cisco ( CSCO ) can break above the psychologically important $100 level. Put activity was lighter near current prices, with heavier open interest clustered at lower strikes including 90, 85, and 75—indicating traders have downside protection positioned below the market. Ahead of the report, investors will watch out for the company’s AI obligations growth and data center growth. Wall Street expects the company to post EPS of $1.04, implying a 4% increase, while revenue is expected to rise 4.6% to $15.56B for the quarter. J Studios/DigitalVision via Getty Images I have already written about Gold Royalty Corp. ( GROY ), and my thesis became even better since then. Then we had Q3 2025 as a first real evidence that GROY is not just a royalty optionality story, where investors wait until the portfolio can generate money. The company was then starting to show real cash flow, and now after Q4 2025 and Q1 2026 it has been proven. Revenue, adjusted EBITDA, operating cash flow, and balance are looking stronger to me than they did when I wrote the first article. Yet, I have to say that the price action was not really clear, nor was it reassuring. Even given better results, GROY is not valued as a mature Franco-Nevada or Wheaton type of company. The market still sees it as a small-cap gold beta play, which is not that far-fetched. So, my view remains still bullish, but I would be very careful with it. GROY, in my opinion, should be looked at speculatively for now. Changes Let's first talk about changes that happened since my last article. I think that GROY became a stock that the market should not ignore for long. Then, as I mentioned, we had Q3 2025 as a clearer breakthrough. Revenue was $4.15 million, adjusted EBITDA was at $2.52 million, operating cash flow reached $2.44 million, and in the first nine months, operating cash flow was around $6 million. I have to recap the numbers, because they were very important at the time, mainly because GROY for a long time looked like a good portfolio buy without cash flow evidence. Now this argument is even stronger, to be fair. In 2025 revenue reached $15.6 million; total revenue, land agreement proceeds, and interest were $17.8 million; operating cash flow reached $6.2 million; and adjusted EBITDA grew to $9.8 million. What is most important for me is that Q1 2026 showed a different kind of level, as revenue was $7.2 million, total land agreement proceeds and interest were $9.4 million, adjusted EBITDA was $7.0 million, and operating cash flow reached...

STORY: It’s a who’s who of the business world heading to China with U.S. President Donald Trump this week as he meets with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Elon Musk, Apple’s Tim Cook and others will make the trip, according to a White House official. Sources say the companies hope the summit will generate enough political goodwill to unlock regulatory approvals, market access and investment opportunities. One of the sources said a critical precondition for companies to join the trip was having a (QUOTE) "tangible ask" that promised a concrete outcome or handshake deal during or after the summit. None of the companies responded to requests for comment on their goals for outcomes from the summit. In Musk’s case, China is weighing curbs on exports of solar manufacturing equipment to the United States, which could threaten plans by Tesla to build new factories or expand existing ones to boost local production. In March, Reuters reported that Tesla was looking to buy $2.9 billion of equipment for making solar panels from Chinese suppliers. Tesla is also seeking Chinese regulatory clearance to expand the adoption of its Full Self-Driving assistance system in the world's largest auto market. Boeing’s CEO Kelly Ortberg told Reuters last month that the U.S. plane maker was counting on the Trump administration to help unlock a long-awaited major order from China. China and Boeing have been in prolonged talks for a deal that industry sources say could include 500 737 MAX jets, plus dozens of widebody jets powered by GE engines. One CEO not making the trip is Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, a person familiar with the matter said on Monday. Huang was not invited, the source said, with the White House focusing more on agriculture and commercial aviation matters on the current trip. Nvidia has been pushing the administration to allow it to sell some of its AI chips to Beijing. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The stock market had a volatile start to 2026 because of the geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and Iran, which triggered a spike in oil prices that threatened to dent corporate earnings and the broader economy. At its March low point, the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) index was down by as much as 9% from its peak. Fortunately, tensions have eased, and the S&P 500 is now up 8% for 2026. But had investors parked their money in the S&P 500 Growth index at the start of this year instead, they would be sitting on a better return of 10%. The Growth index exclusively holds 143 of the best-performing growth stocks from the regular S&P 500, while maintaining very little exposure to the weaker areas of the market. The Vanguard S&P 500 Growth ETF (NYSEMKT: VOOG) is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that tracks the performance of the Growth index by holding the same stocks. It has a stellar long-term track record against the S&P 500, and here's why I predict it will continue pulling ahead of the index in 2026. Continue reading

Earnings Call Insights: Novanta (NOVT) Q1 2026 Management View Novanta reported a demand and bookings acceleration in Q1, with CEO Matthijs Glastra stating, "Novanta beat expectations for revenue growth in the first quarter, delivering 10% reported growth and 3% organic growth, a step-up versus the prior quarter." He added that "Bookings grew 37% year-over-year with a book-to-bill of 1.10" and said the company expects "organic growth to reach high single digits in the second quarter" while remaining watchful of macro and geopolitics. Glastra highlighted end-market momentum and mix shifts tied to AI infrastructure, saying, "Semiconductor markets are in an upswing, and we're seeing accelerating double-digit growth in AI data center-related applications," and added, "New product revenue is up 50% year-over-year." He also framed GenAI data center exposure as broad-based, estimating it at "approximately 15% of total company revenue in the first quarter" and said these applications "grew about 20% year-over-year." CFO Robert Buckley attributed Q1 margin pressure to fast-moving tariffs and cost inflation, saying, "Gross margins reflected a price/cost timing impact, resulting in a weaker-than-expected outcome because of higher freight, tariff costs and material costs as a result of geopolitical dynamics" and added, "we are quickly shifting resources to offset the higher cost" while expecting site closures to support margins later in the year. Outlook Management raised full-year 2026 revenue while reaffirming profit guidance, with CFO Robert Buckley saying, "for the full year of 2026, we now expect GAAP revenue to be approximately $1,040 million to $1,055 million" and that the company continues to expect "adjusted EBITDA to be between $245 million and $250 million" and "adjusted earnings per share to be in the range of $3.50 to $3.65." For Q2 2026, Buckley guided to "GAAP revenue to be approximately $259 million to $264 million" and guided diluted EPS of "$0.81 to $0.86." He...
