Shadow Wars: IRGC Operatives Tried To Infiltrate Kuwait, Firefight Ensues Kuwait and Iran are barely separated by a small section of Iraqi coastline at the head of the Persian Gulf, but they do share a maritime border. But given the small oil-rich Sunni sheikdom's close proximity to the Islamic Republic, and give its historic role in hosting American forces and bases, it is to be expected that it would be heavily targeted in Iranian military operations. Indeed, Kuwait has alongside the UAE absorbed some of the biggest ballistic missile and drone attacks out of Israel during the US-Israeli Operation Epic Fury. US forces have even had to retreat to other locations deeper in the Middle East or even outside the theatre, given the repeat attacks and looming threat of new attack even amid broader ceasefire. But in tandem with an air war, there's has been a covert war happening in the shadows , with Kuwait’s interior ministry newly announcing on Tuesday it has arrested four 'infiltrators' affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) . The ground attack incident is said to have happened earlier this month, and involved heavy exchanges of fire. IRGC special operator, file image: Iran International The elite IRGC operatives reportedly tried to enter the Gulf state by sea , per Kuwait state news agency KUNA. A likely firefight ensued, given the ministry confirmed one member of Kuwait’s armed forces was wounded in resulting clashes with the infiltrating small group of Iranians. The Interior Ministry accused the IRGC operatives of seeking to launch "hostile" activities inside Kuwait . "Confession of the infiltration group to Kuwaiti territories during interrogation with them of their affiliation to the Revolutionary Guard in the Islamic Republic of Iran," the ministry stated. It appears that only two of the Iranian group are in custody while two escaped, per an initial statement. As for the operatives in custody, "They confessed to being tasked with infiltrating Bu...

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been the biggest growth driver for the stock market in recent years, as the proliferation of this technology has positively impacted multiple industries and applications. The semiconductor industry has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI boom. Chips have been deployed in massive numbers in data centers over the past few years to train AI models. But now, a significant portion of chips are used for AI inference applications. That's not surprising, as inference is the process of putting a trained AI model to work in the real world by feeding it new data so it can make decisions in real-time, generate responses, and provide recommendations. In fact, inference is going to be bigger than the training phase. Here's why. Continue reading

Richard Drury/DigitalVision via Getty Images Back in the day, there was a law in Canada that made it illegal for Canadian pension funds and private individuals to buy non-Canadian securities for their retirement accounts. After all, a US Treasury or a Gilt issued by Her Majesty’s Government were clearly too risky to allow people to invest in, and why would anyone ever want to own Apple Inc. ( AAPL ) or Amazon.com, Inc. ( AMZN )? How silly, thankfully this law was repealed decades ago. Anyway, while the law was in force, one way that Canadian investment banks and institutional investors would get around it would be to set up a Canadian company (an SPC ) that would issue debt. The money raised would then be used to buy the preferred shares of Canadian and non-Canadian banks, in a ratio of 51% to 60% of Canadian Bank Preferred shares to 40%-49% of non-Canadian Bank Preferred shares. As it was a Canadian company with more than half of its assets being Canadian, the debt of the SPC would be treated as Canadian content. Later, similar techniques were used to repackage Junk Bonds into CDOs. With apologies for mixing metaphors, the lesson is, that as an investor, you can’t assume that the label on the tin can describes what’s inside of it, you have to lift the hood to look at the engine. Those who have read previous articles I have written about preferred shares know that they are an asset class I dislike due to their historic underperformance, which I believe will continue due to the asymmetric returns they exhibit. They are a “Heads I win, tails you lose”, bet. That said, people will and do invest in them, so it is worth investigating how various ETFs that but preferred shares stack up compared to other alternatives. After looking under the hood of PFF , the iShares Preferred and Income Securities ETF, I expect that going forward, it will underperform other ETFs in the same category. Accordingly, it’s a Sell. What PFF Is, Is What PFF Will Be, (at least for the next few ye...

Citi Research reduced its price target on Salesforce ( CRM ) to $188 from $200 ahead of its upcoming first quarter fiscal 2027 financial results. "We reiterate our Neutral rating and slightly trim FY27 estimates towards the low end of guide after our fieldwork suggests lengthening deal cycles and greater portfolio optimization at renewals, particularly with Tableau and Marketing Cloud," said Citi analysts in a Tuesday investor note. "Agentforce continues to be a driver of customer conversations, but we haven't picked up meaningful signs of customers scaling it. We anticipate a mostly in-line 1Q print with a reiterated FY27 guidance, though with 2Q guidance decelerating for organic cRPO growth of 8-8.5% CC. We slightly lower our estimates towards the lower end of guidance ranges for FY27." Citi slightly reduced its fiscal full-year adjusted earnings per share estimates on Salesforce. It lowered 2027 to $13.11 from $13.18, 2028 to $14.57 from $14.82, and 2029 to $16.41 from $16.97. "We expect the company to come in generally in-line or slightly below 1Q guidance and don't anticipate a raise to FY27 targets," Citi noted. "1Q organic cRPO growth may meet expectations at ~9% CC y/y, and expect 2Q guidance to decelerate slightly (8-8.5%)." Salesforce is slated to release its first-quarter results post-market on Wednesday, May 27. Seeking Alpha consensus estimates call for adjusted earnings per share of $3.12, GAAP EPS of $1.79, and revenue of $11.06B. Earnings Call Insights: CeriBell (CBLL) Q1 2026 Management View “Q1 was a strong quarter. We delivered revenue of $26.5 million, growing 29% year-over-year and 7% sequentially,” said Co-Founder, President, CEO & Director Xingjuan Chao, adding that growth was “driven by record headband utilization and our largest quarter of net new account additions.” “We also delivered 87% gross margin and expect to maintain gross margin in the high 80s range throughout 2026,” said CEO Chao, while highlighting two “inflection points” as the company “initiated the full commercial launch of our neonate and pediatric products” and “activated the first site in our delirium pilot in April.” “We ended Q1 with 680 hospitals actively using CeriBell System,” CEO Chao said, adding, “With 33 net additions, this marks our strongest single quarter of account growth since becoming a public company.” “We remain confident in our ability to increase the number of new adds in 2026 above the level seen in 2025,” CEO Chao said, pointing to salesforce maturation, “deepening penetration within the VA,” and “our strong account backlog,” and adding that the company “launched a pilot at select U.S. military hospitals.” “In April, we received a supportive CMS proposed rule for a New Technology Add-on Payment, or NTAP, for our delirium monitoring solution,” CEO Chao said. “The rule proposes up to $2,171 in incremental reimbursement per patient,” and “If adopted, the NTAP would become effective October 1, 2026.” “Total revenue for the first quarter of 2026 was $26.5 million,” said Chief Financial Officer Scott Blumberg, adding, “Product revenue… was $20.2 million” and “Subscription revenue… was $6.3 million.” Outlook “We expect full year 2026 total revenue to range from $112 million to $116 million, up from our prior guidance of $111 million to $115 million,” CFO Blumberg said, adding, “This change to guidance reflects the momentum we’re seeing in our core business with success driven both by new account addit...

JasonDoiy Waymo ( WAYMO ) has issued a recall on ~3.8K U.S. robotaxis due to a software issue that impacted the vehicle’s response to flooded roads. The recall was prompted by an event in which an unoccupied Waymo ( WAYMO ) vehicle drove into an “untraversable flooded section” of a road in San Antonio during an extreme weather event. The vehicle’s lack of response to the unsafe environment illustrates vulnerabilities to the software in terms of unpredictable weather and road conditions. According to the safety recall report issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the danger is presented as “entering an untraversable flooded roadway can result in loss of vehicle control.” Although Waymo ( WAYMO ) implemented additional restrictions at times and in locations where there was an elevated risk of encountering a flooded, higher-speed roadway, NHTSA determined that a recall was appropriate. The recall has not impacted shares of parent company Alphabet ( GOOG ) ( GOOGL ) nor Waymo competitor Tesla ( TSLA ).
