Douglas Cliff/iStock via Getty Images 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, Inc. ( FLWS ) (1-800-Flowers) reported the company's fiscal Q3 results from the January-March period on the 7th of May. The flower and other gift company's momentum remains poor, not showing any clear signs of a turnaround as competition is crushing its financial performance. Some strategic efforts are being made to revitalize 1-800-Flowers' performance, but I don't believe that a turnaround is likely. I initiated the stock at a Hold rating in my previous July 2024 article on the stock, titled " 1-800-Flowers: Less Generous Earnings Are Still Present. " The stock has since lost -55% of its value; meanwhile, the S&P 500 has returned 34%. My Rating History on FLWS (Seeking Alpha) Fiscal Q3 Review: 1-800-Flowers' Earnings Are Still on a Decline 1-800-Flowers announced another weak quarter for the company. Fiscal third quarter results showed a -11.6% revenue decline to $293.0 million, continuing a trend that has now persisted for over three years already. Consumer Floral & Gifts revenues declined by -18.7%, Gourmet Foods & Gift Baskets revenues were nearly flat, and BloomNet revenues declined by -5.9%. No segment was a point of strength for the company; even the flat performance in Gourmet Foods & Gift Baskets was achieved due to a 5% revenue lift due to a shift in the timing of Easter. The quarter's revenues missed Wall Street's consensus by $1.0 million, and the -$0.77 adjusted EPS missed by nine cents. Earnings plummeted massively in 2025 , but 1-800-Flowers has managed to maintain somewhat more stable profitability during FY2026. Third quarter adjusted EBITDA came in at a -$31.2 million loss, even up by $3.7 million year-on-year. System implementation issues in the prior-year period caused a favorable gross margin comparison; meanwhile, the underlying gross margin held stable. Lower marketing and labor costs offset sales deleverage in SG&A expenses. 1-800-Flowers has implemented $50 million in cost savings, ri...

Wright, who successfully transitioned to TV punditry after a distinguished playing career that included becoming Arsenal’s highest ever goalscorer, before he was overtaken by Thierry Henry, said he wanted the film to “give people hope and joy”. The Strait of Hormuz remains largely shuttered, with Iran-linked vessels dominating what little traffic is moving across the waterway. An Iraqi supertanker’s rare passage has come to a halt after a retreat from the US naval blockade line. The Iraqi oil-loaded Agios Fanourios I , which cleared the strait at the weekend, is retracing its route after halting a journey to Vietnam on Monday as it approached the US position. The tanker’s unexplained U-turn underscores the risks to third-party shipping as Washington and Tehran enforce rival restrictions across the strait. Meanwhile, a Qatari liquefied natural gas carrier, the Mihzem, appears to have cleared the strait, marking the only transit on Tuesday morning. Now headed to Pakistan, the tanker on Monday had demonstrated caution by turning back briefly and disabling its transponder. A similar shipment successfully transited the chokepoint over the weekend. Hormuz Transits Monday’s observable commercial transits in both directions were limited to six Iranian vessels and a bulker, according to ship-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg. Outbound traffic included an Iranian liquefied petroleum gas carrier, two small fuel tankers, and a bulker. A regional cargo ship followed the same route out of the waterway. Authorities in Qatar have instructed ships near their main LNG export facility to disable tracking systems as a safety measure, further muddying visibility. The LPG tanker Xin Ming Long went silent Monday while awaiting orders, with its transit status currently unconfirmed. Diplomatic signals offer little reassurance. US President Donald Trump has dismissed Iran’s latest offer and signaled that a ceasefire is precarious, while Iran has deployed small submarines described as an invisible guardians to secure its position in the strait. In a post on X, US Central Command confirmed that the military has diverted 62 commercial ships since the blockade on Iran took effect. Meanwhile, inbound commercial transits on Monday incl...

Getty Images The Investment Thesis There is a common saying about gold rushes: the most reliable fortunes are made not by the prospectors, but by the people selling the shovels. Synopsys ( SNPS ) is a company that has carved out a great position for itself as a provider of critical software that is driving the AI revolution. With the Ansys acquisition, Synopsys now has a product that is best-in-class. High customer switching costs and product leadership provide a substantial moat, while an expanded market and AI and transaction synergies provide many future growth catalysts. I see Synopsys as delivering enhanced EPS growth over the medium-to-long-term and, resultantly, compounding shareholder returns. Although not cheap, Quality Growth investors can look past short-term valuation concerns when buying a business with the fundamental quality, earnings visibility, and structural tailwinds that make time in the market far more powerful than timing the market A Deep Dive into the Synopsys Business Synopsys is a core cog in the global semiconductor industry. The company produces electronic design automation (EDA) software that designs the complex chips driving the AI revolution. Every major chipmaker on earth depends on EDA software to develop their next generations of silicon. Together with Cadence ( CDNS ), Synopsys dominates this market, with the two firms collectively representing about 80% of the market. Synopsys operates across two primary segments. The first is Design Automation, encompassing EDA tools, the recently acquired Ansys simulation and analysis business, and other related services. The second segment is Design IP, which sells pre-built and reusable chip components. These are standardised building blocks that engineers license rather than design from scratch, allowing chip developers to focus their resources on designing proprietary and differentiated designs. Design Automation generated $2.0 billion in Q1 FY2026 revenue at a 47.3% adjusted operating margi...

Klaus Vedfelt/DigitalVision via Getty Images In my last article covering Moderna in 2024 titled " Moderna: Highly Uncertain Future For mRNA Vaccine In A Post-Pandemic World ", I presented the risk that mRNA vaccine might not fare well against more traditional vaccines in the post-pandemic setting. Since then the stock has tanked ~50% to today's price, even more if we compare to the 52-week lows. My worries for Moderna's mRNA vaccine pipeline in that article played out almost exactly in the real time, and politics at the FDA as well as Modern's own clinical misstep added even more fuel to the fire: 1) Moderna's RSV vaccine, mRESVIA®, generated only $25 million in total sales for the full year 2024, with $15 million reported in the fourth quarter . This is totally being outcompeted by traditional RSV vaccines by GSK and Pfizer. 2) Prasad overruled FDA staff to reject Moderna’s flu vaccine application due to questions about its control arm. This was overruled later on, following intense backlash and scrutiny, and the FDA agreed to review the vaccine by splitting it into age-based applications. Again, my worry there is even if it gets on the market will it be able to compete against the traditional Flu vaccines? That is a big question mark. 3) Moderna scraps congenital virus program after its mRNA shows almost no protective effect in phase 3. This was a difficult virus to vaccine against and unfortunately mRNA vaccine did not work just like traditional vaccines, and another key late stage asset is wiped out. With all these negative news, it begs the question that I am sure investors are asking: Is mRNA vaccine only viable in a COVID-like situation? After almost exactly 3 years since COVID-19 ended in the US, the score sheet handed over by Moderna is saying: Yes. And I am sure knowledgeable readers are screaming at the screen right now: But what about the cancer vaccines? We will get to that as well. mRNA vaccine: built for speed mRNA vaccines were uniquely suited for th...

Do you think AVGO stock is a good long-term bet at current levels? What about at a 30% discount at about $300 per share? If you think that is a steal and have some cash ready to go, here is a trade.
