Cisco ( CSCO ) CEO Chuck Robbins was invited, but won't join the trip due to the company's earnings schedule. Notably, Nvidia ( NVDA ) CEO Jensen Huang was not invited. This is because the White House is focusing more on agriculture and commercial aviation matters, such as Boeing ( BA ) orders, for the trip, a source told Reuters . Trump's China visit, the first by a U.S. president since 2017, will be closely watched given the countries' ongoing trade war and Beijing's close ties with Iran. "I expect a tactical truce — an extension of last year's rare-earth elements agreement, some additional trade commitments, possibly new agreements related to U.S. exports of agricultural products and/or energy, and a structure for ongoing communication and coordination on trade and finance issues," said SA analyst Agar Capital. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer emerged defiant from what many had viewed as a make-or-break Cabinet meeting for his premiership on Tuesday. Following a sharp rebuke in last week’s elections and calls from more than 70 Labour MPs for him to resign either immediately or later this year, Starmer told ministers he would “get on with governing.” Starmer noted that no formal leadership challenge had been triggered and stressed the economic risks of destabilizing the government. Reports indicated no Cabinet minister openly challenged him during the meeting. Markets reacted somewhat positively as investors welcomed at least some political clarity. The UK 30-year gilt yield, which had risen as much as 15 basis points to 5.82%, eased back to around 5.76%. Sterling (GBPUSD) ( FXB ) also recovered from session lows near $1.35 against the dollar. But the bond market may still have the final word. “U.S. and UK 30-year yields are rising in line due to uncertainty around Anglo-American fiscal paths,” economist Joseph Brusuelas posted. “Each rate has embedded in it a risk premium due to both policy and political dynamics as investors act rationally to push up the price of lending to the sovereign.” Brusuelas warned that both economies eventually face the need for fiscal consolidation and said UK long-term yields could test 6%. “Another Liz Truss moment in the making,” he said. Truss lasted only 49 days as prime minister after her economic plan triggered a surge in yields and a drop in sterling. The Daily Star tabloid had a live stream of an iceberg lettuce to see which would last longer. Pepperstone strategist Michael Brown cautioned that markets are not yet at the “‘political journalists rediscover the bond market’ phase of Starmer’s downfall.” But there has been respite at least for today. The infrastructure needed to move data between all of them, and you need connectivity. A lot of the discussion around AI investing so far has been around compute. Those headlines are dominated by Nvidia ( NVDA ), AMD ( AMD ) and Broadcom ( AVGO ). Memory (sometimes) gets its fair share of coverage too - I mean look at where RAM prices are headed. But connectivity is becoming the sexiest place to be, and within connectivity, there's a really interesting argument for why light is superior to copper at scale. That's the case at Lumentum Holdings ( LITE ). A company such as Credo Technology ( CRDO ) [which I recently covered, click here ] has built its business around copper-based Active Electrical Cables to carry data within racks, but Lumentum is working at the photonic layer. It converts electrical signals into light and transports them throughout the data center at greater speeds, longer distances, and much more efficiently than copper. The company's largest long-term opportunities are still in their early stages, optical circuit switches [OCS] and co-packaged optics [OCS]. The 90% year-over-year revenue growth in Q3 FY2026 was driven mainly by transceivers and EML laser chips. Once OCS and CPO revenues start to have a significant impact on the business, it could be a very different business from what it is today, which is why I rate the company as a Buy.
