MF3d/E+ via Getty Images Investment Thesis In my last article about MercadoLibre Inc. ( MELI ), I mentioned the stock price’s high volatility due to margin pressure because of the company’s aggressive investments to expand its ecosystem, although it continues to report strong revenue growth. This article examines exactly why margins are under pressure based on Q1 '26 results , and the reason why I believe the company’s growth investments could lead to sustainably high profitability in the long term, despite the “short noise.” MELIS’s Revenues Accelerate While Margins Declined The company’s big picture and the reason behind investors’ concern is that MELI’s operating and net income decreased YoY over the last quarters. On the other hand, its revenue growth accelerated from 36% in Q1 ’24 to 49% in the most recent quarter. In simple terms, investors see that the company does not generate more profits from the impressive revenue growth. Based on Seeking Alpha (Author) Deep diving, any margin metrics have significantly declined, especially operating margin from 13.5% in Q4’24 to 6.9% in Q1’26, and profit margin from 10.6% to 4.7%, respectively, indicating that profitability significantly collapsed in the last quarters. Based on Seeking Alpha (Author) I will break down the analysis into three steps: First, I will summarize why revenue is growing at this impressive pace, and Second, why this revenue growth has a direct impact on its profitability. Third, I will illustrate my thoughts on the company’s future performance, as well as wins and risks that any investor should have knowledge of. First Step: Why Is Revenue Growing So Fast? In my last article, I gave an analytical overview of the company’s business lines, which I recommend reading if you are not familiar with MELI’s business lines and revenue sources. Reasons for growth of the Commerce segment The company’s first segment is Commerce, which mainly includes the branded Marketplace, Mercado Envios (logistics solutions...

Qatar is asking ships at its main liquefied natural gas export facility to turn off their transponders, according to people familiar with the matter. The directive came this week for vessels within Ras Laffan port, anchorages and port waters to switch off their Automatic Identification System, the people said, asking not to be identified because of lack of authorization to speak to media. The move is a safety measure, one of the people. QatarEnergy didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. At least nine LNG tankers that were anchored near Qatar stopped sending signals from May 11, according to ship-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg. The waters around the Persian Gulf, where the port is located, have faced major security issues during the war in the Middle East that’s now into its third month. A cargo ship was targeted by a drone in Qatari waters last week, causing a small fire, according to the country’s defense ministry. Earlier attacks have also hit the nation’s sprawling LNG export facilities, which the energy minister has said could take years to repair. The war has also resulted in Iran practically shutting the Strait of Hormuz, choking off a vital route for the vast oil and gas supplies from the region, including from Qatar. One shipment from the country transited the chokepoint over the past weekend, following Pakistan’s talks with Iran to allow safe passage, according to people familiar with the matter. A second vessel Mihzem, loaded with Qatari LNG and signaling Pakistan as its destination, appeared to slightly turn back from the Strait of Hormuz after initially approaching the waterway, according to ship-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg. But the vessel hasn’t sent a signal since midnight local time, and it isn’t clear if it continued the journey through.

Telenor ASA agreed to sell a stake in its internet-of-things venture to Verdane Group as the telecommunications company overhauls operations to focus on the core Nordic business. The deal, which values Telenor Connexion at 7.5 billion Swedish kronor ($809 million), will result in the two companies each owning half of the joint venture and committing to invest an additional 2 billion kronor, according to a statement . The move is the latest example of Telenor raising cash through the sale of partial stakes in non-core operations. The group has already struck a number of similar deals in Scandinavia and Asia. Read More: Telenor Sees Nordics Driving Growth as Overhaul Continues The internet of things refers to machines like cars and smart meters that are connected to mobile networks and send data. Telenor Connexion serves that market by providing SIM cards for items such as water pumps and robotic lawn mowers, enabling the unit to generate revenue of 1.3 billion kronor last year. Telenor will receive about 3.8 billion kronor in cash under the deal, which also includes Verdane acquiring stakes in Telenor Amp’s portfolio companies BLDNG.ai and Whereby. The telecommunications company will also book a seller credit of about 800 million kronor, according to the statement. Pekka Lundmark , a former chief executive of Nokia Oyj, will become independent chair of Telenor Connexion after the deal closes, while Mats Lundquist will continue as chief executive officer, Telenor said.
