If you have your retirement savings in a traditional IRA or 401(k), you may be aware that your money can't just sit and grow in a tax-deferred manner forever. Once you turn 73 (or 75, depending on your year of birth), you'll have to start taking required minimum distributions, or RMDs. RMDs may not be a problem if you're planning to tap your IRA or 401(k) for money each year, and the amount you're required to withdraw is equal to or less than the amount you intended to take out in the first place. Put another way, if you're on the hook for a $20,000 RMD but planned to withdraw $2,000 a month from your retirement savings to supplement your Social Security, there's not really an issue. Rather, RMDs become more of a problem when you don't have an obvious need for the money. But that doesn't mean you should let your RMDs go to waste. Here are three smart things to do with them. 1. Reinvest in a taxable brokerage account Just because you're required to withdraw money from a retirement account doesn't mean you have to spend it. If you want that money to keep growing, invest it in a taxable account. You can choose investments that lend to your broad financial goals, whether it's income stability, growth, or the ability to leave a nice inheritance. 2. Take advantage of qualified charitable distributions RMDs are usually a taxable event. But if you use yours to do qualified charitable distributions, or QCDs, they won't have to be. With a QCD, you can transfer funds directly from an IRA to an eligible charity. That allows you to satisfy your RMD without having that withdrawal add to your taxable income. 3. Make home and lifestyle upgrades that promote personal safety At a certain age, it may no longer be safe for you to shovel your own snow in the winter or do your own home repairs. And if you want to age in your home, at some point, you may need to make adjustment to accommodate changes to your mobility or vision. In a letter to First Industrial ( FR ) shareholders, Litt said the firm will vote against Chairman Matthew Dominski, who has been on the board for more than 15 years, and H. Patrick Hackett , Jr., who has been a member of the board for 16 years. The activist investor believes that a refreshed board and improved oversight could add ~$15 to the company's stock price. "Green Street's applied (private market) cap rate for First Industrial and its closest peers Prologis and EastGroup are approximately the same," confirming Land & Buildings' view that the private market values these portfolios as comparable," the letter said. " If FR’s implied cap rate compressed from the mid-6% based on market rents to the low 5% range of its closest peers, FR shares could trade approximately $15 higher, or more than 20% upside," it added. Litt concludes that gap represents ~$2B of market capitalization and believes that it's a "governance discount," not a real estate discount. He also noted that FR's compensation committee, which both Dominski and Hackett serve on, "has continued to award excessive compensation to management despite FR’s persistent discount, which we believe is a direct consequence of a board that lacks independent oversight." Artificial intelligence (AI) has been a game-changer for many companies. For example, Alphabet experienced record-high Google search usage in the fourth quarter of 2025, and much of that growth was a result of the company adding AI Mode and AI Overviews to its search engine. The AI tailwind could persist across the tech sector for years. Consider that, according to a forecast from Statista, the artificial intelligence market will expand from nearly $350 billion in 2026 to a whopping $1.7 trillion by 2031. It's no wonder retail investors are upbeat about AI stocks, according to a survey conducted by the Motley Fool. That's why I have already invested in several AI companies, including megacaps Alphabet and Nvidia. But there are others that I'm looking at in March that are less well known, among them, CoreWeave (CRWV 2.61%), TTM Technologies (TTMI +1.90%), and Fastly (FSLY 1.66%). CoreWeave's AI computing strength CoreWeave is a player in the AI infrastructure market. It provides businesses with computing power for AI systems through the equipment in its data centers. Demand for CoreWeave's services is sending its sales soaring. In 2025, revenue reached $5.1 billion, up from $1.9 billion in 2024. And this year, it expects to more than double its top line again, with management guiding for revenue of $12 billion to $13 billion. In March, CoreWeave signed a multiyear deal with AI giant Perplexity. It also forged a partnership with Nvidia worth at least $6.3 billion, under which the AI chip leader -- which sells large volumes of GPUs to CoreWeave -- will buy any unsold data center capacity CoreWeave has through April 2032. Not only does that deal provide the data center company with protection from any possible drop in demand, but it's also a jumping-off point for broader opportunities.
