( OWL ) — a private credit-focused alternative assets firm—was being unfairly punished by the market for perceived issues with its private credit business. With limited balance sheet risk, significant long-term contracted capital, continued fee growth, and a robust dividend, I argued that shares looked like a Strong Buy. In the weeks since, the market has gone on to punish Blue Owl even harder, with shares down 41% since my article in late January: Seeking Alpha What on earth is going on here? Asian oil refiners are staring down deep losses after the Middle East war caused the benchmark Dubai price to soar, upending their hedging positions, according to traders. The loss of Persian Gulf supply has spurred sharp rallies in the region’s oil grades that feed into the Dubai benchmark, which derivatives are priced off. Refiners typically take short positions — wagers that profit if prices fall — on related derivatives in the months prior to buying crude, as part of typical feedstock cost management, said the traders, asking not to be named as they’re not authorized to speak to the media. Hedging structures “work as long as crude cargoes arrive, runs are maintained, product availability is certain, and is sold into the market,” said Sumit Ritolia , lead research analyst for refining and modeling at analytics firm Kpler Ltd. “However, the current disruption is breaking that linkage. A strategy designed to reduce risk is turning into a source of financial pressure.” Chinese and Japanese refiners are likely among those worst hit, given their heavy reliance on Middle Eastern crude supply, now in jeopardy as the war rages on. Some processors could be facing losses in the hundreds of millions of dollars, the traders said. Many Middle East oil cargoes have been effectively lost, given the near-total halt on oil tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz since the war started at the end of February. There’s been an unprecedented surge in the three-month spread for over-the-counter Dubai swaps contracts. They’re now around $55 a barrel in a bullish backwardation pattern, more than three times higher than the previous peak in 2022, according to General Index data. The gauge was around $1 in backwardation before the war, and was in the opposite contango structure as recently as January. Tesla Roadster To Debut In April On Tuesday, Musk took to the social media platform X, quoting a post by a user that one of the original Tesla Roadster vehicles was currently in orbit around Mars. “True. New Roadster unveil probably in late April,” he said in the post. Tesla’s Roadster Tesla most recently filed multiple trademark applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The filings describe a wordmark “Roadster” in a stylized format, as well as “a triangle design consisting of three flowing, curved lines.” Musk also detailed that the Roadster would be a performance-focused vehicle. “If safety is your number one goal, don’t buy the Roadster,” Musk said, promising a “cool” demo for the vehicle. Roadster’s Hovering Patent, Cybercab Gets NHTSA Boost Interestingly, Tesla had filed a patent detailing an active aerodynamic system that directs airflow through a series of fans to generate downforce. The filing also mentioned that the system could possibly make the car hover. Elsewhere, Musk’s $30,000 Cybercab could also be set to receive a major boost, as NHTSA has proposed amendments to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), which would remove the need for a gear position indicator. Nvidia looks like a market that will be moving soon, and quite frankly, it’s about time. With the GTC Conference starting today, a headline should get this stock moving. Nvidia (NVDA) Nvidia does look quite a bit stronger during the trading session on Monday, up well over 2% and now threatening the 50-day EMA. The question of course is whether or not it can take out the 50-day EMA and perhaps go looking at the $190 level followed by the $195 level. Anything above $195 almost certainly unleashes a FOMO type trade. Support Levels and the GTC Conference But I think really what we have here is likely to be a situation where traders come in and buy the dip. That does make a certain amount of sense because almost everybody owns Nvidia if they have any type of retirement account; there is almost certainly some managed money holding the stock. The 200-day EMA sits at the $173.58 level and is rising. I think that could be dynamic support. Underneath there we have the $170 level which is solid support. As long as we stay above the $170 level, this is a market that I think eventually goes much higher although it may take a while to get there. The last several months we have seen absolutely nothing come out of the stock as far as price appreciation is concerned. We have basically been bouncing around in a $25 range. It is worth noting that the GTC conference starts today and that of course there is a lot of what traders might be watching to see what Nvidia is going to be doing next.
