Bullion was trading around $4,686 an ounce, after ending the previous session marginally lower. US forces responded to Iranian attacks on destroyers sailing in the strait by targeting military facilities, Central Command said. This came after reports of explosions in southern Iran had already rattled hopes for a deal that had buoyed markets earlier. The latest clashes heighten tensions as the US tries to exit a war now in its third month, and while it is waiting for Iran to respond to its proposal to reopen the strait, a vital waterway for energy flows. Spot gold was little changed at $4,686.77 an ounce at 6:42 a.m. in Singapore, while silver was up 0.2% to $78.59. Platinum and palladium were lower.
