And Starboard Value already has experience in the automotive industry from its engagement with Cars.com ( CARS ) in 2017 . I also see the points proposed by Starboard Value as goal-oriented, which is why I think there is a good chance that CarMax could develop positively. But as I generally consider the industry to be rather unattractive and turnarounds are always difficult, I will remain with my Hold rating for the time being. What was my previous coverage like? In my last article about CarMax, I explained that I don't see any significant competitive advantages for the company. In particular, I found the capital efficiency and the ROIC not worth investing in. But this is also because some industries are simply less attractive for investments. And when the management team suggested that they wanted to reduce the margins to be more competitive. CarMax was completely out of the question for me. A company that already has low margins and then wants to engage in a price war is usually not a good investment. But with Starboard Value's involvement, things might change. That's why I'd like to take a look at Starboard Value's suggestions to see if they change my mind. Starboard Value's ideas Starboard Value has a stake of around $350m in CarMax, which currently has a market cap of $6b. At the next Shareholder Meeting, Starboard Value will also nominate two members for the CarMax board to support the change process. But what suggestions has Starboard Value already made in its letter? Let's take a look at that now. Near-term improvements in reconditioning efficiency and prioritization can directly reduce cost of goods sold and help offset pricing adjustments on the selling side. VV Shots/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Elevator Thesis Tesla, Inc. ( TSLA ) is one of the largest headline machines in the market. To say the least, there is a new story every few months and each promise is bigger than the previous one. So, it’s not hard to understand why investors get excited. With a market capitalization of about $1.5 trillion , it is crystal clear that Tesla is not being priced like a traditional automaker. It is being valued by the market as a future technology platform. In essence, it is assumed that robotaxis, autonomy, and robotics will one day take over the company's economics. Maybe they will, but these results are unpredictable and probably years off. That said, a more realistic approach is to decode what would really propel the financial performance of Tesla in the coming three to five years. Interestingly, the trend towards recurring revenue is real. On the software front, the company has 1.1 million active paid FSD users across a fleet of nearly 9 million vehicles. It might look small but it is the beginning of a subscription layer built on a huge installed base. Energy is just as important. Tesla deployed 46.7 GWh of storage in 2025 with gross margins rising near 30%. The fact that Tesla has been granted regulatory permission to have its energy subsidiary distribute electricity in the U.K. also hints at a possible long-term shift toward recurring utility-style revenue. The major issue is valuation, even if FSD subscriptions scale and energy storage continues to grow at a rapid pace. Those engines might not be able to support an extremely ballooned valuation without a significant innovation. That is why I would say that the risk-reward is unfavorable at present. Therefore, I assign TSLA stock a Sell rating. FSD and Energy Storage: The Engines of Recurring Revenue Elon Musk CEO Tesla (CNBC) The following couple of years will not be filled with flashy Optimus demos or Robotaxi hype. The Energy sector is at the forefront now, with the ongoing war in the Middle East driving oil prices back to levels reminiscent of their glory years. Many investors are wondering whether to include or sell oil stocks in their portfolio. Amid the backdrop, investor can keep their eye on energy majors like EOG Resources, Inc. EOG, Exxon Mobil Corporation XOM and ConocoPhillips COP. Oil Price May Remain High The price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude is trading at more than $90 per barrel, according to data from oilprice.com, owing to the ongoing war in the Middle East. Also, in its latest short-term energy outlook, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (“EIA”) mentioned its expectation for the WTI oil price this year at $73.61 per barrel, higher than $65.40 last year. Thus, the present crude pricing environment is highly favorable for exploration and production activities. This will increase demand for drilling rigs and oil field services. 3 Stocks to Gain: XOM, EOG, COP ExxonMobil has a strong footprint in the Permian, the most prolific oil and gas play in the United States, and offshore Guyana. In the Permian, the integrated giant has been employing lightweight proppant technology and hence has been capable of boosting its well recoveries by up to as much as 20%. In Guyana, XOM has made several oil and gas discoveries, further highlighting its solid production outlook. Record production from both resources has been aiding its top and bottom lines. In both resources, the breakeven costs are low. With presence in prolific upstream assets, ExxonMobil, carrying a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold), will likely gain from the favorable pricing environment of oil. You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here. ConocoPhillips has a strong presence in the Lower 48, which comprises the Permian – the most prolific basin in the United States – Eagle Ford and Bakken. gdinMika/E+ via Getty Images Introduction The last time I covered SBA Communications ( SBAC ), I highlighted their attractive valuation, portfolio rebalancing moves, and relatively high levels of leverage that they're working on addressing, with potential for better shareholder returns. Following a report in line with my expectations, SBAC’s valuation remains relatively attractive given the industry we’re talking about, with solid recovery potential after some near-term pressure. Internal Developments SBA Communications IR SBAC reported an okay Q4 and 2025 as a whole, with an FFO in line with the market’s estimates but a slight miss on revenue, with the AFFO falling to $1.38 billion, or about $12.85 per share, mostly as a result of a mix of pressure caused by the weak environment, the churn seen in the industry, higher interest expenses and costs, as well as the DISH ( SATS ) issues mentioned before. Regarding DISH, I’ll also mention that the impact here is not as big as the other players since we’re talking about shorter-term contracts, with SBAC recently filing a lawsuit to protect their ~$100 million total exposure, as the CFO mentioned during the recent Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference 2026 : DISH was starting a fourth carrier in the U.S. They needed basically towers to deploy their equipment. We signed agreements with them, lease agreement. It's about $56 million of annual revenues. Last year, we did $37 million lease of $2 million aware with DISH. Almost nothing in the second half. They stopped paying. We have basically a $56 million revenue contracted with DISH in 2026. We assume it's going to be a 100% churn for 2026. We have short-term contract with DISH, the total exposure under the term of the leases that we have is slightly above $100 million. They run out through at the end of '27 and '28. Our total exposure is about $100 million, and we filed a lawsuit, basically, in order to protect our legal rights. SBA Communications IR Regardin...

Mayors across England should be given greater powers to tackle the youth unemployment crisis and avoid its “long-term scarring” of regions outside London, the government’s work tsar has said. Alan Milburn, who is leading a major review into rising inactivity among Britain’s young people, said the issue could not be solved by Whitehall alone. Most of the nearly one million young people not in work, education or training (Neets) are in the north and Midlands. Eight of the 10 local authorities with the highest number of Neets are in these two regions. In an interview with the Guardian, Milburn said: “Local authorities and mayors have an absolutely critical role to play because they’ve got convening power – they can bring together schools, the colleges, the employers in an area. “They’ve got some legal powers. I think we will look at whether those legal powers go far enough.” The former health secretary added: “They have some powers over education but there’s a real question about whether they need to have more responsibilities for reducing Neet rates, more responsibilities in terms of skills and employment support – because if this is going to be addressed as a problem, it’s got to be addressed locally as well as nationally.” The latest official figures from the Office for National Statistics showed unemployment rose to 5.2% in the final quarter of 2025, the highest rate since the start of 2021. Young people have been bearing the brunt of this rise, with 16% of those aged 16-24 now unemployed, nearly an 11-year-high. In Yorkshire and Humberside, 16.8% of young people are Neets. Milburn said he had been “horrified” to learn that 45% of all 24-year-old Neets have never h...

In January 2025, a measles outbreak erupted on the western edge of Texas and soon spilled over to New Mexico and other states. The overall outbreak would become the largest the country has seen since 2000, when measles was declared eliminated from the US. In Texas, it was the largest outbreak recorded since 1992. And in New Mexico, it was the first measles outbreak the state had even seen since 1996. But the trajectory of the two states' measles cases diverged. Texas declared the outbreak within its borders over on August 18 , with an end tally of 762 cases. In New Mexico, officials declared its outbreak, which began in February, over on September 26 , with a total of just 99 cases. One of the key differences, according to a new study, was that in New Mexico, the rapid spread of the highly infectious virus spurred a massive surge in measles vaccinations among children and adults. Overall, shots of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine increased 55 percent statewide from January to September compared to the same period in 2024. Read full article Comments
