Indonesia is facing an uphill battle to maintain the budget deficit legal limit of 3% of gross domestic product as Middle East tensions drive oil prices well beyond initial forecasts. Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto said that the government has analyzed three different scenarios involving fluctuating oil prices and rupiah exchange rates. All findings suggest that hitting the deficit target will be difficult without spending cuts, which would compromise on economic growth, he told a livestreamed cabinet hearing on Friday. The surge in global energy costs adds fresh strain to the nation’s fiscal health, which is already bracing for the impact of President Prabowo Subianto ’s high-cost welfare initiatives, including public housing and free meal programs. Michael M. Santiago Remember the "Fight for $15" that started in New York City last decade? Well, the movement has evolved and the goalposts have moved, with "$30 by '30" being demanded in the Big Apple. Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist, already advocated for the new minimum wage level on the campaign trail, but the pledge is now being taken up at the New York City Council. Rallying cry: If approved, the newly introduced bill would stagger wage increases over the next several years, bringing the minimum wage to "$30 an hour by 2030" - for businesses with over 500 workers. Smaller employers would have two additional years until 2032, with any further increases tied to cost-of-living adjustments. It's a big deal. The current minimum wage in NYC is $17, and at $30, it would be the highest city minimum wage in the country. According to NYC's Comptroller, one quarter of the local workforce earns minimum wage, meaning an increase would impact over a million workers. The proposed bill also aims to phase out the tip credit for food service workers, while implementing robust reporting requirements. Any failure to maintain or produce wage records would create rebuttable presumptions of the employer, which must provide formal notice to employees about their rights on an annual basis. Outlook: "The math ain't mathing," said Brooklyn City Council Member Sandy Nurse, who put forward the "30 for Our City" Act. "$17 per hour is not a livable wage. It is a crisis. This is not a dignified life." Others argue that such a sharp increase could deepen monopolies and pressure small businesses, which are already facing sky-high rent and tight profit margins. Additional fears center around higher prices due to increased labor costs, as well as an increase in the unemployment rate, especially among low-skilled workers. Crovik Media Mexico's América Móvil ( AMX ) considers buying telecom assets from Columbia-based Grupo Salinas, the conglomerate founded by Ricardo Salinas Pliego. Comcel, a subsidiary of América Móvil ( AMX ) that operates under the Claro brand in Colombia, has requested authorization from the regulatory body to integrate strategic assets owned by Azteca Comunicaciones Colombia and Total Play Comunicaciones Colombia , a local newspaper reported . The operation includes the acquisition of the so-called National Fiber Optic Project Network and an approximate extension of 20,000 kilometers, as well as the ACC Network of about 12,000 kilometers, both operated by Azteca Comunicaciones, a company of the Salinas Group. The transaction also includes the transfer of contracts for the use and management of the fiber optic network, the contractual position in a commercial trust for administration and payments, as well as assets such as infrastructure, towers, and lease agreements. If the 15 years from 2010-2025 were dominated by the world of bits, the next 15 years may be dominated by advanced technological hardware. This company is the manufacturing backbone for the advanced computer chip market, serving customers such as Apple and Nvidia with lucrative contracts. Rising demand for AI chips has driven insatiable demand for TSMC to expand its manufacturing footprint worldwide, including over $100 billion of planned investment into the United States. Even though it generates over $100 billion in revenue -- making it one of the largest businesses in the world -- TSMC's revenue has grown by 377% over the last decade, as it has proven to be the best supplier of advanced computer chips with minimal competition. Revenue growth has accelerated in recent quarters. Capital expenditures for AI data centers is set to increase again in 2026, so TSMC is poised for another year of strong growth. The ride may be bumpy over the next decade, but over the long term, TSMC has a huge runway to keep expanding its operations and should do well for any shareholder. A second SpaceX? If TSMC is a mature leader in its sector, then this second stock is a riskier but high-potential disruptor. The company is ...

When Jensen Huang strides onto the stage of a packed hockey arena to kick off Nvidia's annual developer conference on Monday, he is likely to reveal products and partnerships geared toward keeping the AI chipmaker atop a growing array of competitors. Taking over the heart of Silicon Valley for most of a week, Nvidia GTC, as the conference is known, has become CEO Huang's preferred event to show off Nvidia's AI advances in chips, data centers, its chip programming software CUDA, digital assistants known as AI agents, and physical AI such as robots. This year, the four-day event is even more crucial as investors will seek assurance that Nvidia's strategy of plowing back its profits into the AI ecosystem is paying off.
