Lenovo Group Ltd. ’s Motorola unveiled its latest lineup of folding phones, including the company’s first book-style model that will compete with several big-name rivals, including Samsung Electronics Co. and Apple Inc. , whose maiden foldable is set to arrive this fall . The 2026 Razr series includes four models: the Razr Fold ($1,900), Razr Ultra ($1,500), Razr+ ($1,100) and Razr ($800). All of the new devices will go on sale May 21, with preorders beginning May 14. The Ultra and Razr+ have both gone up by $200 compared with last year’s starting prices, while the entry-level Razr is $100 more expensive, another sign of the price pressures phone makers are facing as a result of rising component prices . Read More: Why the AI Boom Will Make Phones, Cars and Electronics More Expensive Motorola revived the 2000s-era Razr brand seven years ago, leaning into consumer nostalgia to gain a foothold in the emerging market for foldable phones. Despite the retro naming scheme, the modern Razr series has helped advance the category over several generations. In particular, Motorola’s sleek designs and edge-to-edge outer display have pushed Samsung to get more ambitious with its own Galaxy Z Flip series. But foldables still make up a tiny portion of the smartphone market. To appeal to more consumers, Motorola is joining a growing field of competitors in offering an additional hardware style: a handset that unfolds, like a book, into a tablet-size device, joining Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The Razr Fold is billed as having improved multitasking capabilities. (The company first teased it at the CES technology conference earlier this year, without providing many details.) The other three new Razr phones, meanwhile, retain their signature, nearly-square external display, which is best suited for short interactions like checking notifications, snapping selfies or texting. The Razr Fold’s outer display measures 6.6 inches and unfurls to reveal an 8.1-inc...

By almost all measures, shares of SoFi Technologies (NASDAQ: SOFI) should be up today. The online bank's Q1 revenue of $1.1 billion was up 41% year over year, topping expectations of $1.05 billion. And, per-share earnings doubled from a year-ago comparison of $0.06 to $0.12 for the three months ending in March, in line with analysts' estimates. Several internal records were also set last quarter. SoFi maintained full-revenue guidance of around $4.66 billion as well, up 29% from 2025's top line. Nevertheless, as of 11:58 a.m. ET Wednesday, SoFi's stock is down 13.8%, unwinding the budding recovery from a sell-off that began dragging the stock lower late last year. The market just didn't like a handful of numbers from the company's first quarter report. One of the stumbling blocks is SoFi's fee-based revenue such as brokerage services , platform fees, and loan originations. While fee revenue grew 23% to $387 million, that still fell short of analysts' expectations of $405 million. Continue reading

Danielle DeVries | CNBC DETROIT — Ford Motor is set to announce first-quarter results after the markets close Wednesday. Here's what Wall Street is expecting, based on a survey of analysts by LSEG: Earnings per share: 19 cents adjusted Automotive revenue: $38.82 billion Those results would mark a roughly 3.7% increase in automotive revenue compared with a year earlier and a 35.7% increase in adjusted earnings per share, up from 14 cents. Ford's 2025 first-quarter results included $37.42 billion in automotive revenue, adjusted earnings before interest and taxes of $1.02 billion and net income of $471 million. Its total revenue, which includes its Ford Credit financing arm, was $40.7 billion. Aside from earnings and any changes to the automaker's 2026 guidance, investors will be monitoring effects from the Iran war, tariff impacts and any updates to production at key aluminum supplier Novelis following two fires. They'll also be watching for any additional charges related to the automaker's pullback in all-electric vehicles. Ford announced plans in December to record about $19.5 billion in special items starting in the fourth quarter of 2025 related to a restructuring of its business priorities and EV investments. That includes $7 billion in 2026 and 2027, with a majority of $5.5 billion in cash charges through 2027 being recorded this year, Ford said at the time. The Detroit automaker's 2026 guidance released in February included adjusted EBIT of between $8 billion and $10 billion, up from $6.8 billion last year; adjusted free cash flow of between $5 billion and $6 billion, up from $3.5 billion in 2025; and capital expenditures of $9.5 billion to $10.5 billion, up from $8.8 billion. A global task force led by the Department of Homeland Security generated 500 new investigative leads on cold cases and identified more than 100 child abuse victims during a two-week operation in Fairfax, Virginia last month. Specialists from 29 countries sat at rows of desktops in a classroom-style setting at the fourth annual Operation Renewed Hope. Each workstation was marked with a small flag to show where the agents traveled from. Countries from Europe, Asia and South America were all on hand. They were there to help find child victims of sexual abuse from footage or photographs collected by Homeland Security Investigations. HSI, which is the federal agency that coordinates international efforts to battle child exploitation, identified or rescued 1,783 victims in its 2024 fiscal year, leading to the arrest of nearly 5,000 people, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s most recent annual report. The March task force was the biggest and most successful yet, says Stephen Reuther, section chief of the victim identification program at DHS. Artificial intelligence, which has helped fuel an explosion in child sexual abuse material in recent years, is becoming a critical tool for specialists to analyze metadata, Reuther says. The authorities use AI to identify objects in the images — like furniture or corporate logos — and then scan the internet and law enforcement databases to check for matches. That could provide investigators with a clue about the perpetrator or the location of an abused child. AI created a new threat for law enforcement squads that specialize in child sexual abuse cases, making it harder for investigators to determine if the images are real children in imminent danger, digitally altered photos or outright fakes. My colleagues Alexandra , Riley and Kurt reported last week on how the authorities are struggling to keep up at a time it’s easier than ever for pedophiles to create illegal content. Sven Hoppe | Picture Alliance | Getty Images Microsoft is set to report fiscal third-quarter results after the close of regular trading on Wednesday. Here's what analysts are looking for, according to LSEG: Earnings per share: $4.06 adjusted Revenue: $81.39 billion Microsoft's stock is coming off its worst quarter since 2008, due in part to broader market concern that artificial intelligence will eat software, and fears specific to the company that its hefty AI investments won't produce the desired results. Still, Microsoft continues to show consistent growth, and is expected to report a revenue increase of 16% in the period ended March 31, from $70.1 billion in the same quarter a year earlier. Microsoft has been baking its Copilot technology into its suite of productivity apps, in addition to offering access to the major AI models via its Azure cloud infrastructure. With Copilot, the company is trying to get businesses to pay a premium for AI-assisted services in an increasingly competitive market, where Anthropic, OpenAI and Google are all playing. On Monday, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella touted the "largest deployment to date" of the company's 365 Copilot commercial AI add-on for productivity software subscriptions, after Accenture agreed to buy licenses for 740,000 employees . "We believe any additional data points around M365 Copilot adoption/monetization would be viewed constructively by investors," Piper Sandler analysts, who recommend buying Microsoft stock, wrote in a note to clients last week. Investors will be particularly focused on any commentary around data center spending. Along with its hyperscaler peers, Microsoft is pouring money into AI chips and systems to keep up with soaring demand for compute access so companies can build and access AI models and services. Analysts predic...

The company is getting a boost from its Gemini artificial intelligence models and services, as well as its cloud infrastructure business, which sells capacity to developers and users of AI tools. Analysts are projecting 18.7% revenue growth from $90.2 billion a year earlier, which would be the company's highest rate of growth for any quarter since 2022. In the first three months of the year, Google pushed its Gemini AI models across more products — from Maps to a new AI design offering. Google announced during the quarter that it will allow users to connect Google apps with its Gemini chatbot to do things like create personal images based on the user's private Google Photos. Google is getting a hefty amount of growth from its cloud division, which competes with Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. Revenue is expected to jump 47% from $12.26 billion in the same quarter a year ago. Along with its hyperscaler peers, Alphabet is pouring money into AI infrastructure to capitalize on exploding demand. That might be what happened to the Razr Fold, which will cost $1,900 when it goes on sale in the US on May 14th. That doesn't include the Moto Pen Ultra stylus, which costs an additional $100. Motorola has dripped out some of the Fold's specs since it was first previewed at CES, and those early signs indicated that this device wouldn't be the more affordable folding phone the market so desperately needs.
