Barclays Maintains Bullish Stance On Nuclear Barclays is out with a report on nuclear and how the industry is progressing from conviction to construction. The report highlights year-to-date regulatory developments, demand and execution signals and market pricing across the industry. Last year, Barclays argued three core points regarding nuclear energy: A nuclear renaissance is underway driven by energy security, decarbonization, and AI power demand The nuclear fuel cycle is likely to be an upstream bottleneck that requires reshoring As the theme matures, practical hurdles will take center stage, such as speed to power, labor, permitting, and unit economics Given the run up in their broad global nuclear ecosystem index (BCGLNUCL +19%) this year, there is undoubtedly a continued interest in the nuclear theme. This also correlates with “a broad rotation from capital-light to capital-heavy (HALO) sectors”. The market seems to be distinguishing between the themes within the nuclear renaissance, with companies in the nuclear fuel chain (BCNUCLUR +30%) providing higher returns YTD than the broader nuclear ecosystem… The bar is being set higher by investors lately, though, with money being “less willing to fund nuclear on narrative alone, instead increasingly rewarding delivery of existing megawatts, visible permitting progress or at least a credible bridge from concept to contracted project”. As we detailed long before most others started realizing it, Barclays also notes how the Iran war has accentuated national energy security concerns. It has not gone unnoticed how countries like France have had little to care about with the dramatic energy market price swings, while countries like Germany and other Asian nations have suffered. The Iran war has also led to a plus for nuclear energy adoption in Europe based on the broader concept of the strategic autonomy agenda at the EU. As it should be well understood by our readers at this point, the underwriting of nuclear developme...

The stock initially fell as much as 7% after the chipmaker reported second-quarter earnings that topped Wall Street estimates but fell short on forward guidance. Amon wouldn't disclose the customer, but said more details will come during Qualcomm's investor day in June. Although it's largely fallen behind giants like Nvidia in the race for chips to power artificial intelligence , Qualcomm announced its own data center chips last year. OpenAI also announced a partnership with Qualcomm last week to develop an AI chip for smartphones that could power a coming OpenAI device run by AI agents. "We are in a period of profound industry transformation — the rise of AI agents is reshaping our roadmap across every platform we develop," Amon said on the earnings call. Revenue growth there is key as investors look for proof that companies are seeing returns on their massive artificial intelligence spending. Klaus Vedfelt/DigitalVision via Getty Images Overview During my last look in 2024, I rated BridgeBio Pharma, Inc. ( BBIO ) a “Buy,” but expressed some concern over competition and a limited cash runway. Pfizer ( PFE ) was already dominant in the ATTR-CM market with products like Vyndamax. And I thought that BridgeBio could benefit from an EU partnership or some sort of non-dilutive capital. Be it from shuffling debt around or through the monetization of acoramidis in the EU via a royalty sale, BridgeBio has "kept the lights on." Acoramidis has also since been approved in ATTR-CM as “Attruby” in the U.S., and Pfizer is fighting a few generic drug makers who filed ANDAs challenging Vyndamax (tafamidis) patents. The situation is a bit complicated for BridgeBio because although it competes head-on with Vyndamax, if tafamidis generics enter the ATTR-CM market earlier than hoped, it would weaken the Vyndamax/Attruby TTR stabilizer “duopoly” and lead to price erosion. In the article below, I propose that positive Attruby-related developments, alongside pipeline advancements, merit ongoing optimism in BridgeBio's stock despite its premium valuation amid ongoing losses and debt obligations. Attruby Pfizer just settled three major cases, with a negotiated generic entry date of June 1, 2031 (one, Apotex Corp., is outstanding). This is extended from what had previously been an anticipated 2029 cliff. This is “gospel" to the ears of BridgeBio and its investors because the ATTR-CM market remains a "protected branded space" through at least mid-2031, giving Attruby more time to establish its roots. Already bearing fruit, Attruby generated $362.4 million in U.S. net product revenues last year. And BridgeBio estimates that Attruby accounts for over 25% of new-to-brand prescriptions . Author's Compilation Now, both BridgeBio’s and Pfizer's drugs are TTR stabilizers. Attruby was designed to have much better potency. BridgeBio has run with this differentiation in marketing language, ci...

The company’s free cash flow decreased 95% from a year ago to $1.2B. While AWS revenue was up 28%, the fastest pace in four years, there were whispers in the trader community that the mark would be closer to 30%. Looking ahead, Amazon ( AMZN ) expects Q2 revenue of $194.0B to $199.0B (midpoint $196.5B) for the second quarter vs. $189.5B consensus. Amazon ( AMZN ) also guided for operating income of $20.B to $24.0B (midpoint $22.0B). During the earnings conference call, CEO Andy Jassy highlighted the reasons that customers like OpenAI ( OPENAI ) and Anthropic ( ANTHRO ) are picking Amazon ( AMZN ) for their AI needs. He pointed out that the chips business grew 40% in Q1. Notably, Jassy said the chips business as a standalone company could generate $50B in revenue a year. "Our custom silicon business is now one of the top 3 data center chip businesses in the world," stated Jassy. In terms of capital expenditure spending, Jassy said the company thinks the high level of AWS spending will be monetized well and justify the short-term negative impact on free cash flow. Jassy said Amazon ( AMZN ) is generating a higher average e-commerce basket by adding more perishable food items and expanding delivery options. Tesla ( TSLA ) and SpaceX ( SPACE ) CEO Elon Musk told a federal court Wednesday that he was a “fool” to fund OpenAI ( OPENAI ) as a non-profit venture. “I was a fool who provided them free funding to create a startup,” Musk said during his testimony on Wednesday, according to The Wall Street Journal . “I gave them $38 million of essentially free funding to create what would become an $800 billion company.” Musk, a co-founder of OpenAI, is suing the company, along with CEO Sam Altman and President Greg Brockman, for over $180B for allegedly manipulating him into investing in the AI startup as a non-profit project, only to later convert it into a for-profit entity. Musk has also asked that the court remove Altman and Brockman from their positions and unwind OpenAI's conversion into a for-profit company, the WSJ said. OpenAI, meanwhile, has argued that Musk was supportive of plans to convert the company, but walked away when OpenAI's other co-founders refused to cede control to him. Musk, who went on to establish AI company xAI, has also been accused of filing the lawsuit to slow down OpenAI's progress, the WSJ added. The WSJ also noted that evidence had been submitted indicating Musk had proposed rolling OpenAI into Tesla at one point. OpenAI is best known for its AI chatbot ChatGPT. In his testimony, Musk said that while xAI was “technically competitive” with OpenAI, it was a “much smaller” operation. XAI, which developed the AI chatbot Grok, is now a division of SpaceX. Both OpenAI ( OPENAI ) and SpaceX (SPACEX) are reportedly planning massive IPOs for later this year. Microsoft ( MSFT ) is a major backer of OpenAI. In addition to xAI, SpaceX also owns satellite internet provider Starlink ( STRLK ) and social media platform X.
