Unfortunately, Stellus Capital Investment ( SCM ) is vulnerable to many of the same headwinds that peer BDCs face. The latest earnings report was just released, and the results left a lot to be desired. When I previously covered SCM, I issued a sell rating due to the poor earnings and failure to support distributions. Based on the results of the latest Q4 earnings, it doesn't look like much has improved. Looking at the performance over the last twelve months, we can see that SCM's share price has declined by about 31.85%. The BDC has continued to trend downward over the last few quarters as the BDC market faces headwinds. Even when including all distributions that were paid out to shareholders, the total return sits at a loss of 22.3% over the same time frame. Following the latest earnings report, SCM still fails to support its distributions at this time, which makes it difficult to recommend the accumulation of shares. Data by YCharts Due to the generous distribution policy and the failure to allocate capital towards new investments, I am led to believe that the NAV will continue to decline through 2026. There are no indications that the portfolio will improve over the next few quarters, which means that SCM should still cut its dividend to help free up capital. As long as interest rates remain elevated, I do not have confidence that SCM will be able to improve the capital being allocated towards new investments. Q4 Earnings Based on the latest Q4 earnings release , SCM has investments at a fair value of $1B that are spread across 115 different portfolio companies. On a year-over-year basis, SCM was able to increase its portfolio company investments up from 105. However, SCM's weighted average yield of their investments now sits at 9.3%, which is a decline from the prior year's yield of 10.3%. As...

An elderly woman was taken to hospital in Macau after being “frightened” by a humanoid robot that abruptly appeared behind her before it was escorted away by police, prompting social media users to joke it had been “arrested”. According to authorities, the woman, who was on her phone at the time, was startled when she suddenly noticed the robot behind her near the Lok Yeung Fa Yuen residential complex in Patane last Thursday. Video circulating online shows the woman angrily confronting the robot before two officers arrive. One officer is seen placing a hand on the robot’s shoulder as they escort it away. ( AMBA ) recently reported its Q4 results , which were not met very well by the investors, as its share price dropped by over 19% since the report. I wanted to go over the numbers and give some comments on the outlook, and why I don’t think it is still a good idea to start a position yet, even after this drop. By the Numbers Starting from the top, revenues came in at around $101m for Q4, up 20% y/y, and just barely beat estimates by around $730k. Looking at the breakdown in revenues in more detail, IoT came in strong at around 50% y/y growth. This segment includes security cameras, video conferencing, as well as the most promising growth drivers (in my opinion), the robotics/drone businesses. Automotive has been a little sluggish over the last while, unsurprisingly, and this past quarter hasn’t shown much improvement either, growing in the high single digits. At least it was positive, signaling some sort of recovery. Management has specifically singled out drones and warehouse robotics in the quarter as they continue to be the most promising new ventures. Looking at the company’s efficiency and profitability, Q4 non-GAAP EPS came in at around 13 cents, beating estimates by 3 cents. Gross margins for Q4 came in at around 58.4% on a GAAP basis versus 60% at the same time last year. For the full year, that number ended up being 59.2% vs. 60.5% last year. So, not good all around. The management attributed the performance to a few things. The customer mix was most likely the largest contributor to the performance. The company has been winning more contracts, especially with high-volume customers, which means that these customers may have greater pricing power and are able to negotiate prices a bit more when it comes to their contracts. It added that success will require the support of “strong supporting public financial management institutions.” This includes the need to reprioritize government spending and ensure the Treasury can monitor and help manage fiscal risks stemming from state enterprises.
