The Pentagon has struck agreements with four more technology companies for expansive use of advanced artificial intelligence tools on classified military networks, according to a Defense Department statement and two defense officials briefed on the matter. Nvidia Corp. , Microsoft Corp. , Reflection AI Inc. and Amazon Web Services have all newly struck agreements with the US Defense Department “for lawful operational use,” according to the statement. The officials asked not to be named to discuss internal discussions. The companies join a growing roster of technology giants that have recently pledged to provide broader use of AI tools on Pentagon classified networks. Other technology companies that have recently agreed to similar deals include SpaceX , OpenAI and Google . “These agreements accelerate the transformation toward establishing the United States military as an AI-first fighting force,” said the statement, which refers to all six companies and which also marks the first official Pentagon confirmation of a new deal with Google reported earlier this week. “For more than a decade, AWS has been committed to supporting our nation’s military and ensuring that our warfighters and defense partners have access to the best technology at the best value,” according to Tim Barrett, an AWS spokesperson. “We look forward to continuing to support the Department of War’s modernization efforts, building AI solutions that help them accomplish their critical missions.” A Microsoft spokesperson declined to comment, while representatives from Nvidia and Reflection weren’t immediately available for comment.
