Nasdaq 100 futures fall 0.2% Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rise 0.3% The MSCI World Index rises 0.1% Here are some of the biggest US movers before the bell: Magnificent Seven stocks: Apple Inc. (AAPL) is up 3.8% after giving a surprisingly strong revenue forecast for the third quarter, even as it warned that memory-chip costs will increase and that shortages of Mac computers will persist for “several months.” Nvidia (NVDA) +0.4%, Microsoft (MSFT) +0.4%, Meta Platforms (META) +0.3%, Tesla (TSLA) -0.2%, Alphabet (GOOGL) -0.2%, Amazon (AMZN) -0.7%, Amgen (AMGN) is down 1.6% after the drugmaker reported underwhelming sales of some of its newer products for the first quarter, with Baird calling the results a “mixed bag.” Cohu (COHU) falls 1.1% after the semiconductor manufacturing company reported adjusted earnings per share that missed the average analyst estimate. However, analysts remain positive on its long-term growth prospects. Moderna Inc. (MRNA) jumps 6.7% after first-quarter sales beat expectations, as the struggling vaccine maker that’s faced resistance from the Trump administration has found new growth outside the US. Roblox (RBLX) tumbles 24% after the video-game company reported daily active users for the first quarter that missed the average analyst estimate. The company also lowered its forecast for full-year bookings, a key measure of sales, after implementing safety features restricting how kids, who make up a majority of its audience, can use the platform. Sandisk (SNDK) is down 6.2% after the computer hardware and storage company reported third-quarter results that were much stronger than expected and gave an outlook that was well above the consensus. Despite the upside in the report and forecast, analysts said the report may not have been strong enough to meet high investor expectations. Summit Therape...

Chevron Corp. is worried that global oil supplies are running dry as the US-Israel war with Iran enters its third month. “That’s certainly the scenario we’re concerned about,” Chief Executive Officer Mike Wirth said Friday in an interview on CNBC. “If we don’t get supply reestablished, demand will have to come down across different sectors of the economy. That’s the big concern that everybody has as we try to avoid a scenario where that becomes extreme.” Wirth, who added that his company is speaking with the Trump administration on an “almost constant basis,” is the latest US oil executive to share concerns that the world’s extra supply of oil stored on land and at sea could be running out if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. ConocoPhillips warned on Thursday that “ critical shortages ” of oil for some import-dependent nations were imminent. The conflict has already eroded oil demand, and crude traders have warned of a bigger hit to come. There’s no get-around with the effective closure of Hormuz, through which about 20% of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas typically flows, Wirth added. “The global energy system continues to be under extreme stress,” he said.

dontree_m/iStock Editorial via Getty Images In a recent macro article I argued there are three types of AI companies: enablers (selling the hardware needed to develop AI models), creators (investing to develop AI models) and adopters (CapEx-lite companies focusing on adopting AI models). Apple, Inc. ( AAPL ) stands out as a very peculiar “AI Adopter”, in that it is the only “Mag7” company without significant CapEx in AI. Analysts criticized the firm for its approach until recently, and Apple underperformed the Nasdaq-100 and peers (see below). AAPL vs. Tech peers (Seeking Alpha) However, as the AI race evolves, Apple’s “CapEx-lite” approach is starting to increasingly look like the winning strategy, in my view. Today I review Apple’s AI strategy after Q2 earnings, arguing how the market is wrong in not recognizing its potential. If I am right, Apple could be an asymmetric investment opportunity on the first company “cracking” consumer AI. Apple’s usual approach to innovation fits with a CapEx-Lite AI strategy Apple has never been particularly strong at innovating in the strict, R&D-first sense of the word. It is not a company that typically invents a new technology from scratch. Rather, it tends to enter once the tech is already proven, costs have come down, and the user experience can be controlled through hardware-software integration. The first iPhone did not feature 3G, nor multitasking, both of which were available in some form on competing platforms. The same pattern showed up again in later cycles: Apple always lagged Android rivals in areas such as mobile payments, wireless charging, and even 4G LTE adoption. Apple also only brought wireless charging to the iPhone in 2017 through the already-established Qi standard. And they did not add 5G to the iPhone until the iPhone 12 in 2020. In other words, Apple’s edge in innovation has usually been “productization”, not invention. Within AI, Apple’s approach follows the same logic: the company has spent very little ...

PhonlamaiPhoto/iStock via Getty Images Recent investor objections to BWX Technologies, Inc. ( BWXT ), have been centered around valuation. Currently trading around 47x P/E, the stock is definitely “expensive” on a P/E basis compared to industrial sector peers, where the median is around 20x; even SA's own valuation metrics give BWXT an F grade. This has been a hurdle for value investors. Despite this, the company continues to build out its nuclear propulsion business. Considering the US Navy is on a shipbuilding spree, it's unlikely that the business will be slowing down anytime soon. It seems to us that the market is struggling to value BWXT. On one hand, it's easy for analysts to put the company in the typical defence contractor bucket and work back from there. We believe the stock is mispriced for what BWXT has actually become. The commercial segment is no longer a side business. Data by YCharts Sustaining The USA's Nuclear Navy BWXT remains the sole supplier of nuclear reactors for US submarines and aircraft carriers and is contracted through 2030. A few major programs they are contracted for are the Virginia-class submarines and the Ford-class aircraft carriers. The company finished FY2025 with a total backlog of $7.4 billion, representing a roughly 50% YoY increase. Contract awards for USN nuclear propulsion plants have overshadowed the commercial contracts they also booked in 2025. With the US Navy building boom in full swing, along with a sole supplier advantage, BWXT has several years of revenue in the bag. When looking past the multiples and digging deeper into the financials, there are several financial accomplishments BWXT was able to achieve that help contextualize the underlying momentum. FY2025 revenues were approximately $3.2 billion, an increase of 18% YoY. Adjusted EBITDA increased 15%, EPS increased 20%, and free cash flow increased almost 16% to ~$295 million. The company managed to beat its guidance in almost every way. FY2026's outlook looks si...

Ryan Detrick, chief market strategist at Carson Group, is leaning bullish on the back of a strong start to 2026, pointing to historical trends that favor further upside. According to Detrick, in 23 of the past 25 instances where the index was up more than 5% heading into May, the market finished the year higher. Ryan Detrick Detrick noted that the S&P 500 has already logged 11 new highs in 2026, adding that no year in history has finished with exactly that number, suggesting the likelihood of further highs ahead. “This is another clue this bull market likely has a few more tricks up his sleeves in 2026,” Detrick added. Against this backdrop, here’s a look at the top 10 S&P 500 YTD gainers: The S&P 500’s YTD leaders are overwhelmingly concentrated in AI infrastructure and memory-related names, highlighting a narrow, cycle-driven rally led by semiconductors, storage, and data center plays. Ross Tomei/iStock via Getty Images Introduction Industrial Logistics Properties Trust ( ILPT ) shares have notably outperformed U.S. REIT peers held in the Vanguard Real Estate Index Fund ETF ( VNQ ), building on the strong returns achieved in 2025. The strong gains come as ILPT expects to generate a normalized FFO of about $1.27-1.34/share in 2026, even stronger than the $1.19/share I had penciled in in my prior article on ILPT . As such, I confirm my Buy rating on ILPT, with my bullish investment thesis briefly summarized as: ILPT trades at only 5.7x its 2026 normalized FFO, quite attractive even if we account for the REIT's sizable debt pile. ILPT has addressed near-term maturities up to 2029. What is more, the company benefits from cheap fixed-rate debt maturing in 2031-2038. ILPT's leasing spreads remain robust, with leasing in Q2 2026 potentially contributing to an improvement in the leased rate. Q1 2026 Results Overview ILPT reported normalized FFO of $0.33/share , soaring 65% Y/Y, principally driven by lower interest costs. Net operating income [NOI] increased 3.2% Y/Y, helped by strong leasing spreads (weighted average leasing spread of 26.3% across new and renewal leases) even as the leased percentage remained flat at 94.6% Y/Y. Post-quarter end, ILPT was able to refinance 38% of its $4.2 billion gross debt at a five-year fixed rate of 5.71% , most notably unlocking $20 million per year from previously required debt principal payments. This has allowed the company to address all near-term maturities (the next debt maturity is in 2029), although the achieved financing cost of 5.71% is fractionally above the Q1 2026 average interest cost of 5.50%. As such, higher financing costs could result in a small near-term drag on normalized FFO, as visible from the Q2 2026 outlook I will discuss next. 2026 Guidance Turning to the company's Q2 2026 and full-year 2026 guidance, we see that ILPT expects to generate normalized FFO of $0.31-0.33/share in the quarter ending...

Jonathan Kitchen Nebius ( NBIS ) said on Friday that it has agreed to acquire artificial intelligence company Eigen AI in a deal worth approximately $643M. The acquisition will boost Nebius Token Factory as a “frontier managed inference platform for production AI,” Nebius said in a statement . After the deal closes, Eigen AI's inference and post-training optimization layers will be integrated into Nebius Token Factory, Nebius added. In addition, it boosts Nebius' presence in the U.S., as Eigen AI’s founding team will establish a Nebius engineering and research presence in the San Francisco Bay Area. “We are operating in a capacity-scarcity world where AI builders need optimized inference and infrastructure scale,” Roman Chernin, co-founder and Chief Business Officer of Nebius, said in the release. The $643M price tag will be paid out in a mix of cash and Nebius shares, Nebius added. The deal is expected to close in the coming weeks and is subject to certain customary conditions, including antitrust clearance. Nebius shares rose 1.6% in premarket trading.
