Sitting in the cramped office of a paddock truck, the confirmation that he had made it to Formula One left him “very smiley for a long time”. Seven years on, he enters the new season having achieved his lifelong ambition of becoming world champion and is wearing an equally irrepressible grin as he sets about defending his title. For the first time, Lando Norris will enter the season as champion, seeing off a late charge by Max Verstappen during the tail end of the 2025 to break the Dutchman’s longstanding stranglehold on the driver’s championship. The ultimate breakdown: everything you need to know about F1’s new regulations for 2026 Read more Of course, this is F1, where every team is doing everything they can to harness the most amount of speed possible from their cars – with their tinkering always pushing right up against the limit of what is or may be acceptable under the regulations. Thus, we’ve already had a blow-up under the new regulations before a race has even been staged, this one focused on accusations that Mercedes’ had used thermal expansion of components to exploit a loophole in re...

As 2026’s first big pop moment, everything around Harry Styles’ new album Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally feels suitably blockbuster. At last weekend’s Brit awards, Styles premiered the record’s lead single, Aperture, alongside a troupe of dancers and an expensive-sounding choir, while Friday’s “one night only” de facto album launch party takes place in a 20,000 capacity arena. This is “intimate” for Styles, who switches to stadiums this summer – and the show is being recorded for posterity by Netflix. The streaming Goliath’s presence means all phones are to be placed in a recyclable bag that prevents the use of recording equipment; it’s a nice way to stay inside the moment, sure, but chiefly a fail-safe against spoiling the forthcoming TV special. Worryingly, perhaps the least blockbuster-y part of the whole campaign is the music itself. Lyrically vague, melodically hazy and strangely devoid of inescapable hooks à la Adore You or As It Was, the new album, which fans have nicknamed “Kissco”, sounds too weak to carry the blockbuster tag. In a live scenario, however, shorn of the album’s hermetically sealed gloss, Styles wrestles the songs into more interesting shapes. Dressed down (relatively) in a cropped blue sweater and billowing bright yellow trousers, Styles spends most of the intro to Aperture hunched over a rack of vintage synths. Played in the round, with huge screens dangling above, it’s an intriguing start, with Styles teasing out electronic textures like a pin-up Thom Yorke after one too many Autechre binges. Once the song opens up – its heart-burst chorus one of the album’s genuine big pop moments – Styles welcomes the feverish audience in, leading them through a roared “we belong together”. Robert Brokamp: What we can learn from market history and the worldwide bull market. That and more on this Saturday, Personal Finance edition of Motley Fool Money. I'm Robert Brokamp, this week, I speak with Ryan Detrick, the Chief Market Strategist at Carson Group, and a consistent source of data about the market's past and what it could say about the future. But first, some news from this week. According to Callum Thomas of Topdown Charts, 80% of the 70 companies he tracks have stock markets that are up at least 20% off their 52 week lows. He writes that this indicator has rarely been above 50% over the past couple of decades, and a surge like this is usually a good sign. Previous spikes have happened in 2003, 2009, and 2020, which were all good times to be an investor. Looking more locally, a recent graphic from Bloomberg illustrates that the year to date rally in US stocks is the broadest ever, as there's a record number of individual stocks in the S&P 500 that are outperforming the index. That said, not every stock is doing well, including some of the biggest tech oriented names, which has resulted in lower valuations for tho...

China will harness artificial intelligence to create jobs as the number of university graduates poised to enter the labor market this year will reach 12.7 million — more than the population of countries such as Belgium. The government will use AI to upgrade traditional roles, tap employment opportunities across multiple channels and help young people showcase their skills in various industries, Human Resources and Social Security Minister Wang Xiaoping said at a press conference during the annual session of the National People’s Congress. While cautioning that growing uncertainties and unpredictable factors are creating new challenges for employment stability, she said China will roll out large-scale internships and training programs as part of effort to address these pressures. Emphasis will be on vocational skills development in emerging sectors such as the low-altitude economy, new-energy vehicles, and artificial intelligence, Wang said. China’s government earlier this week said it aims to add more than 12 million urban jobs in 2026 and keep the average surveyed jobless rate within 5.5% between 2026 and 2030. Five-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Maxx Crosby is heading to the Baltimore Ravens, two people with knowledge of the trade told the Associated Press on Friday night. Both people spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal can’t be announced until the NFL’s new year starts next week. The Las Vegas Raiders will receive two first-round picks from the Ravens, including the No 14 overall pick in next month’s NFL draft, one of the people said. The 28-year-old Crosby had 10 sacks and a career-high 28 tackles for loss last season, and has reached double-digit sacks four times in his seven seasons. Baltimore, who have a first-year coach in Jesse Minter, are in a win-now mode with three-time All-Pro quarterback Lamar Jackson. Crosby is a significant boost for a defense that finished tied for 28th in the league in sacks with only 30 last season. He’s the latest elite pass rusher to switch teams for a big price. Micah Parsons was traded from Dallas to Green Bay last year for two first-round picks and three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark. The last time the Ravens didn’t have a first-round pick was 2012. Crosby had long maintained he wanted to play his entire career for the Raiders, but his frustration with the organization’s struggles was evident even before a tumultuous end to last season, when the team chose to place him on injured reserve with two games remaining because of a knee injury. Crosby, who takes pride in not coming off the field despite playing with an assortment of injuries through much of his career, left the team facility after being informed of the decision. Given a chance a month ago to refute reports that he wanted out of Las Vegas, Crosby instead said such talk wasn’t coming from him. However, he never said he wanted to return to the Raiders. “I just sit back and laugh because I know my truth and when I go to bed at night, I have a smile on my face because I don’t have to explain nothing to nobody,” Crosby said in an appearance on “The Herd with ...

400tmax/iStock Unreleased via Getty Images Stagflation is the Market and Consumers' worst enemy, and it could well be at our doors. Amid ongoing chaos in the Middle East and continued de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Oil prices have exploded to 2023 highs throughout the morning action. As you can see on the chart below, rises in the Commodity's price aren't well received by investors. The reason is that higher Energy prices often correlate with squeezed profit margins due to higher transportation and production costs. Dow Jones and Oil Relative Performance since Beginning March – Source: TradingView Since the 1970s, our reliance on Oil for power production has been trending lower. However, we are still far from being isolated to rises in its costs – hence, such brutal rises in energy commodities are often accompanied by swift climbs in inflation expectations. This also becomes a nasty head-scratcher for the Federal Reserve, which surely did not enjoy the recent CPI and PPI rises, which can only confirm what Participants fear the most. Stagflation had been avoided since the end of COVID restrictions, but it remained a cloud over our economies, and the storm could be approaching. Combine the 148K miss (!!!) on NFP with yet another slip on Retail Sales data, and investors can now officially be scared for what's to come – And the Atlanta Fed's GDPNow confirms this, falling from 3.2% to 2.1%! US Data this morning – MarketPulse Economic Calendar Still, Equity investors have found some kind of relief since the London Fix, as rate cut expectations for the April 29 Rate Decisions have slowly crept up from 10% yesterday to the current 22%.
