President says US navy will ‘guide’ stranded ships out of waterway but report says warship was hit by Iran Middle East crisis – live updates The world’s shipping industry has questioned whether vessels will be able to travel safely to and from the Gulf after Donald Trump announced his latest plan to open the strait of Hormuz. Trump wrote on Monday that the US navy would “guide” stranded ships out of the waterway, writing on his social media site Truth Social that the operation, “Project Freedom”, would be a humanitarian gesture “on behalf of the United States, Middle Eastern Countries but, in particular, the Country of Iran”. borchee/iStock via Getty Images Since my last Cloudflare ( NET ) analysis , in which I issued a Buy rating, the stock has increased by over 90% in price. That analysis was published at the end of 2024, indicating significant alpha generation. Cloudflare has Q1 coming after the close on May 7, with its investor day on June 9 . Q4 already set a high bar, with revenue up by 33.6% year-over-year. The Q1 guide is for revenue of ~$620.5M versus $614.5M in Q4. The base case is a modest beat here due to strong fundamental momentum, but already high expectations across the board. The analysts' consensus price target indicates only a 6.6% upside from here in the next 12 months. NET Consensus Price Target (Seeking Alpha) Q1 Earnings Preview Cloudflare is a business hinged on large customers , which carries the story through large contracts and embedded enterprise structures. At the last report, NET had 4,298 $100K+ customers, with large customers at 73% of revenue, and $1M customers reached 269. This is obvious and resounding evidence of a strong product and platform adoption. This strong large customer base comes with a long runway, too, as revenue looks set to grow as high as $5B (even if as a run-rate, but it could be TTM) in 2028 with normalized EPS of over $2. This creates a strong growth outlook for investors to get behind, especially as the forward EPS long-term CAGR estimate on consensus is nearly 37%, versus just 16.7% for the sector. The issue is with valuation, which I will touch on with more depth in the full price target section below. For starters, the forward PEG non-GAAP ratio is 257.8% higher than the sector median. In Q4, dollar-based net retention was 120%, up from 111% a year earlier. Put simply, if this holds near 120%, then the bull case remains intact, but if it slips it's only logical to expect the multiple to compress. In addition to this strong retention, the backlog is the other support factor, and arguably the most objective factor sustaining the bu...

Bret Taylor, co-founder and CEO of Sierra, speaking to CNBC at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Jan. 22nd, 2026. CNBC Artificial intelligence startup Sierra is raising nearly a billion dollars in a new funding round as venture capital investors search for winners in an ongoing deal spree. The San Francisco-based company brought in $950 million in fresh capital at a $15.8 post-money valuation, led by Tiger and Google's GV. Benchmark, Sequoia, Greenoaks and other existing investors also participated. The startup was founded three years ago by OpenAI chairman and former Salesforce co-CEO Bret Taylor , with former Google executive Clay Bavor. Taylor was also chief technology officer at Facebook , and chairman of Twitter when Elon Musk bought the social media network. The Sierra founders met at Google, where Taylor was largely credited with helping create Google Maps and Bavor led virtual reality efforts and Google Labs. Sierra sells AI customer service agents and is positioning itself as a leader in a new class of software companies built on top of foundational models from OpenAI and Anthropic . According to Taylor, the company leverages a "constellation of models" alongside its own fine-tuned proprietary layers. Sierra topped $150 million in annual recurring revenue, or ARR, in eight quarters, according to the company. That growth timeline is unprecedented in traditional software and highlights "intense demand in the market," Taylor said. "There's a really big addressable market and immediate opportunity," Taylor said. "We've sort of digitized the last remaining analog channel, which is the telephone line — it's a better experience. You don't need to wait on hold. These agents are naturally multilingual." Taylor estimated that $400 billion is spent annually on customer service. A bulk of that, he said, is moving to AI agents. yalcinsonat1/iStock via Getty Images By Ashok Bhatia & Olumide Owolabi Last week’s Federal Reserve meeting was always going to be less about rates than about legacy: what Fed Chair Jay Powell leaves behind and what his successor, Kevin Warsh, walks into. The decision to hold at 3.50 – 3.75% was fully priced and entirely expected. What was not fully anticipated was Powell remaining on the Board of Governors and the degree of division the meeting exposed. Powell said he would stay on as a governor for an amount of time “yet to be determined” while waiting for the ongoing Department of Justice investigation to be over “with finality and transparency”. His official term as a governor runs until January 2028, but past practice is for members to step down when their term as chair ends. Such a development, which broadly surprised the market, adds a further layer of complexity to a transition amid a divided committee, a common theme across other major developed market central banks that announced policy decisions last week. Four Fed officials dissented—Miran, Hammack, Kashkari and Logan—with three of them objecting to language implying the central bank would eventually resume cutting rates. For a committee ostensibly aligned on a wait-and-see posture, that is a meaningful fracture—and a complicated inheritance for Warsh to manage. What to Expect from Warsh We have written here before about what we could expect from a Warsh-led Fed, a prospect that took a step closer last week when the Senate Banking Committee voted 13 – 11 in favor of his nomination, putting him firmly on track for full Senate confirmation before Powell’s term expires on May 15. With Republicans holding a narrow Senate majority and Warsh needing only a simple majority, the outcome is not seriously in doubt. For anyone who has followed Warsh’s writings and public commentary, the comments he made during his hearing last month offered few surprises. But there were markers worth noting—signals of where he inten...

USA Rare Earth (NASDAQ: USAR) stock soared by 71.6% in April, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence . The move comes as a series of developments have helped derisk the company's business model and encouraged investors to believe it can achieve its aims as laid out earlier this year. As a reminder, USA Rare Earth aims to become a vertically integrated mine-to-magnet rare-earth company. However, it's relatively unusual in that it relies on the downstream (magnets) part of the model to provide the earnings and cash flow needed to support commissioning the Round Top mine in 2028. The plan is to ultimately produce 8,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) of rare-earth elements, 27,500 tpa of metals and alloys (rare-earth elements account for only a portion of their total weight), and 10,000 tpa of magnets in 2030. Management believes this will result in revenue of $2.6 billion and earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) of $1.2 billion, and free cash flow of $900 million in 2030. Those figures, in themselves, make USA Rare Earth an extremely attractive stock given its current market cap of $5.74 billion. Continue reading
