metamorworks/iStock via Getty Images Quantum Computing ( QUBT ) reported its first-quarter 2026 financial results post-market on Monday, which featured a massive year-over-year revenue jump. For the quarter ended March 31, the photonics company with a focus on quantum computing reported a loss per share of $0.02 versus the consensus estimate calling for a loss per share of $0.05. Revenue for the first quarter totaled $3.69M, which was more than the $3.28M estimate. It also dwarfed the $39,000 in revenue the New Jersey-based company reported during the first quarter of 2025. The year-over-year increase was driven by the acquisitions of Luminar Semiconductors in February 2026 and NuCrypt in March 2026. "These acquisitions bring established capabilities in lasers, detectors and advanced packaging, broad R&D and manufacturing capabilities, and an experienced team of engineers and scientists, further expanding our talent base and execution capacity," said Quantum Computing CEO Yuping Huang. The company ended the quarter with $1.4B in cash and equivalents. They also ended the quarter with a $16M contract backlog. "As demand for faster and more efficient data processing grows, it is becoming increasingly clear that photonics will be a critical component of future technological advancements given its low-power consumption and ability to operate at room temperature," said Huang. "During the first quarter we strengthened our position in this space, and made significant progress in advancing our technology roadmap and continued to grow our commercial momentum." Operating expenses during the quarter totaled $19.8M. The high expenses were due to higher personnel costs across research and development, sales and marketing, and general and administrative functions and higher expenses primarily associated with acquisition-related transaction expenses, the company said. naphtalina/iStock via Getty Images Investors may be overlooking a significant macro transition as equity ( SPY ) ( DIA ) ( QQQ ) markets continue their steady climb on semiconductor ( SOX ) strength, according to a new warning from Seeking Alpha analyst Damir Tokic on Monday. Tokic cautioned that markets are “gradually pricing a regime change to inflation” beneath the surface calm. He pointed to several converging signals: odds of a Federal Reserve rate hike nearing 45% for April 2027, the 10-year Treasury yield ( US10Y ) trading above 4.40%, breakeven inflation at 2.49%, and crude oil ( USO ) ( BNO ) prices increasingly reflecting the ongoing Middle East stalemate. The central concern is that markets are pricing these shifts slowly enough to keep risk appetite intact. With the VIX ( VIX ) still below 20, investors have continued piling into semiconductor exposure through vehicles like the VanEck Semiconductor ETF ( SMH ). Tokic described the current setup as “very unstable” and “fragile,” warning that the same calm supporting equities could leave markets vulnerable to a sudden volatility spike and sharp correction. Wall Street’s major market averages closed modestly higher on Monday, with the S&P 500 ( SP500 ) closing above 7.4K for the first time, even as there seemed to be no end in sight to the U.S.-Iran conflict as resolution talks fizzled.
