SimoneN/iStock via Getty Images London copper futures extended gains above $14K/ton on Wednesday, nearing all-time highs set in January, as supply risks mount from mine disruptions around the world. Copper ( HG1:COM ) climbed for an eighth consecutive session to touch $14,196.50/ton on the London Metal Exchange, edging closer to its all-time high of $14,527.50, and prices on Comex settled at a record high on Tuesday, with the most actively traded July futures contract settling at $6.53/lb. The Middle East war has cut off a significant amount of the world's supply of sulfur, which is used to create sulfuric acid, a crucial input for many copper producers. Meanwhile, top copper producer China, fearing shortages at home, has restricted exports starting this month, leaving miners who rely on Chinese supply to compete for other cargoes. China's m onthly output of r efined copper fell 3% in April to 1.05M tons, after concentrate treatment charges plunged further and invoicing restrictions tightened scrap supply as feedstock, according to Beijing Antaike Information Co. Another factor is a slower-than-expected return to full output at Freeport-McMoRan's ( FCX ) giant Grasberg mine in Indonesia, where a fatal mudslide halted production in September. On the demand side, Wall Street forecasters foresee a long-term increase in copper demand to enable artificial intelligence and electric vehicles around the world, which has sent prices higher in recent years. Getty Images Early detection, I believe, is one of the smartest investments you can make, whether we’re talking about your portfolio or your health. That’s why I recently made the decision to get a full-body MRI scan from Prenuvo and a multi-cancer blood test called Galleri, available from GRAIL. The experience was eye-opening. In under an hour, the Prenuvo scan assessed my entire body using AI-enhanced imaging. No radiation or needles were necessary. The Galleri test, meanwhile, screens for a molecular “fingerprint” shed by cancer cells into the bloodstream before any symptoms appear. Together, these two tests represent a new frontier in preventive medicine, one that could detect dozens of cancers years before they’d show up through conventional means. I was so impressed by the experience that I mentioned both tests during my presentation last week at the Weiss Investment Summit in Boca Raton. Afterward, I was flooded with questions, and not just about the health implications but about the investment opportunities behind the technology. Cancer Screenings Have Saved $5 Trillion. AI Could Multiply That You may have noticed that healthcare in the U.S. doesn’t come cheap. In 2024, national health expenditures grew 7.2% to a staggering $5.3 trillion, or roughly 18% of GDP. Despite spending nearly twice as much per capita as comparable nations, life expectancy in the U.S. sits at 79, nearly four years below the peer-country average. In other words, we’re paying more and getting less. Peterson Part of the problem is that our healthcare system is overwhelmingly reactive. We wait until people are sick before we intervene. But the data shows that finding diseases earlier is not just better medicine, it’s dramatically cheaper. A University of Michigan study estimated that cancer screenings alone have saved the U.S. at least $6.5 trillion in economic value over the past 25 years, adding some 12 million years of life. This aligns with research out of England showing that early-...

Big tech stocks are proving to be a safe bet for equity investors looking for a harbor in a “fragile” market brought about by the Iran war, according to Seema Shah at Principal Asset Management. Investors want strong balance sheets and positive cash flows, “the moat that sits around a lot of companies — and of course AI technology comes right at the heart of that,” Shah, chief global strategist at Principal, said Wednesday on Bloomberg Television’s Surveillance . “People are looking for something which is almost something of a safe haven.” Tech stocks’ role as a refuge marks something of a reversal from their historic role as high-risk, high-reward options compared with other equities and US Treasuries. They’re leading gains on the S&P 500 Index this quarter after dropping more than 9% the first three months of 2026, the sector’s first losing period in a year. Intel Corp., Advanced Micro Devices Inc. and Micron Technology Inc. are all up more than 100% this quarter. Chipmakers fell Tuesday , sending broader markets lower, after inflation data showed the effects of energy disruptions stemming from the war in Iran. But with Nasdaq 100 futures higher to start the day on Wednesday, the decline could prove to have been a pause following a surge of more than 50% since March 31. Shah warned that tech stocks aren’t immune to potential consequences of the war . Many of the inputs for semiconductor production come via the Strait of Hormuz, which has largely been shut by both Iran and a US naval blockade. “So much is still dependent on how this conflict is going to go,” Shah said. “There is a lot of optimism built into the market at the moment, which creates vulnerability.” Still, the declines in the immediate weeks after the start of the war in February presented an opportunity, Shah added. For long-term investors, there’s a chance “to get exposure to something which we believe is a secular theme, which is going to be here for a number of years, potentially decades,” she said...

Rivian has quickly built a reputation as one of the auto industry's leaders when it comes to vehicle software. Its clean-sheet approach to an electric vehicle's electronic architecture earned it a $5 billion investment from Volkswagen Group, and its in-house infotainment system is beloved by owners despite no plans inside the company to support phone mirroring through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. In the absence of phone mirroring—and the way it lets you easily use Siri or Google Assistant hands-free while driving—Rivian has now added a new AI digital helper in its latest software update, compatible with both older Gen1 Rivians (model-year 2024 and older) as well as the more recent Gen2 models . Rivian's AI is deeply integrated into the car's systems. Rivian's AI is deeply integrated into the car's systems. The Rivian Assistant rolled out in its latest software update , 2026.15, to all owners with a subscription or trial for Connect+, Rivian's connectivity services. You activate it like most digital assistants, either with a button on the steering wheel, an icon on the infotainment display, or with a trigger phrase—in this case "Hey Rivian" or "OK, Rivian." A North Sea oil grade that’s central to setting the world’s most important physical crude price traded at a discount for the first time during the Iran war, as immediate fears ease of a supply shock in Europe. The key Forties grade, one of several that help to decide the price of Dated Brent, traded at a discount to the benchmark of 30 cents a barrel on Tuesday. It previously did so on Feb. 27, the day before the war began and Iran responded by closing the Strait of Hormuz, choking hundreds of millions of barrels of global supply. The decline reflects what traders in Europe say is a market that has proven relatively resilient because the region draws comparatively little oil from the Middle East. At the same time, the wider supply shock from Hormuz has been partly absorbed by Chinese buying sagging, and US exports surging. With arbitrage flows from the Atlantic Basin to Asia still largely uneconomic, most cargoes from the North Sea, Caspian region and Azerbaijan have been directed toward European refineries, said traders involved in the market. At the same time, crude shipments from the US Gulf Coast have been rising, including some barrels released from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. West African producers have also been attempting to divert more cargoes to Europe as demand from Asian buyers, especially China, remains subdued, traders said. Flows from Latin America into Europe have increased as well. Vitol Group on Tuesday bought a cargo of Forties crude from Italy’s Eni SpA at a discount of 30 cents a barrel to Dated Brent in the Platts pricing window that helps set the North Sea benchmark. Derivatives known as Brent dated-to-frontline swaps, or DFLs, have also come down sharply from spreads above $20 a barrel. DFLs are used to hedge the difference between the price of physical North Sea crude and Brent futures. Still, traders and analysts cautioned that weakness in the North Sea market could prove temporary if the Middle East conflict drags on.
