(RTTNews) - Supermarket chain Kroger Co. reported Thursday that net profit for the fourth quarter improved from last year, driven by gross margin expansion and higher sales. The company also initiated adjusted earnings guidance for the full-year 2026, with growth seen from last year. In Thursday's pre-market trading, KR is trading on the NYSE at $67.34, down $0.63 or 0.93 percent. CEO Greg Foran said, "Kroger delivered a strong finish to the year, with improving market share trends and solid sales growth that reflect meaningful progress strengthening the business." For the fourth quarter, net earnings attributable to the company increased to $861 million or $1.35 per share from $634 million or $0.90 per share in the prior-year quarter. Excluding items, adjusted earnings for the quarter were $812 million or $1.28 per share, compared to $800 million or $1.14 per share in the year-ago quarter. However, investors were not impressed, as shares of the Canadian company, which was originally founded as Cybin, fell ~13% in the premarket. Citing topline data from its Phase 2 signal detection study, Helus ( HELP ) noted that patients on 20 mg HLP004 experienced a statistically significant average decline of 10.4 points in a clinical measure called the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale over six weeks. BMO Capital Markets believes that ramping Middle East tensions could boost Westlake's pricing power. The bank upgraded the housing and construction supplies manufacturer to outperform from hold. Analyst Bhavesh Lodaya also raised his price target to $127 from $108, which points to upside of nearly 20%. Lodaya noted his previous reservations for Westlake, as well as the broad ethylene sector, included a shrinking ethane advantage and unfavorable polyethylene supply-demand dynamics. However, the recent Middle East conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has led to a significant amount of low-cost polyethylene capacity being taken out of commission, since the 15% of the world polyethylene capacity that comes from the region is offline or unable to be transported out. GSK awarded Emma Walmsley a near-50% pay rise to £15.6m in her final year as chief executive of Britain’s second-biggest drugmaker. Walmsley, who led the FTSE 100 company from 2017 and handed over to Luke Miels at the start of this year, was paid a salary of £1.4m in 2025, slightly higher than the previous year, while her annual bonus rose to £3.5m, up from £2.9m in 2024. The bulk of her pay package, £10m, came from share bonuses, as she benefited from a jump in the share price. The vesting share price in the long-term incentive plan was £21.65 in 2025, compared with £14.43 the year before. A spokesperson for the company said: “Emma’s remuneration reflected another year of very strong performance for GSK against stretching targets. Sales and profit grew strongly and we secured an unprecedented five major new product approvals in the US, all helping achieve significantly improved value and returns for shareholders.” GSK’s turnover increased by 7% to £32.7bn last year, bolstered by revenue from its cancer, HIV and asthma treatments, although it expects sales growth to slow this year. Pre-tax profit more than doubled to £7.4bn in 2025. Walmsley set a sales target of at least £40bn by 2031, reaffirmed by Miels in February. He said GSK would show “scientific courage” and “be more agile” in an attempt to “produce more competitive products”. Victoria's Secret (VSCO) came out with quarterly earnings of $2.77 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.48 per share. This compares to earnings of $2.6 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items. This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of +11.81%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this retailer of lingerie, pajamas and beauty products would post a loss of $0.6 per share when it actually produced a loss of $0.27, delivering a surprise of +55%. Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates three times. Victoria's Secret, which belongs to the Zacks Retail - Apparel and Shoes industry, posted revenues of $2.27 billion for the quarter ended January 2026, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 0.63%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $2.11 billion. The company has topped consensus revenue estimates four times over the last four quarters. As someone who once scoffed at the idea of owning them, ETFs have grown on me. Although they usually have diversified portfolios, many have performed well against the overall market. This makes them attractive as core holdings and allows you to build individual positions around them. If you're an investor who prioritizes income, then the State Street SPDR Portfolio S&P 500 High Dividend ETF ( SPYD ) may be a good fit inside a diversified portfolio. In this article, I break down SPYD's portfolio, historical performance, and why I'm initiating a buy rating on this ETF. Who Is SPYD? SPYD was created on October 21, 2015, by State Street, the same advisors who created the U.S.'s first ETF, State Street SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust ( SPY ), in 1993. SPYD was designed to track the performance of the 80 highest-yielding companies in the index. What I specifically like about this ETF, aside from the higher yield at 4.11%, is its low-cost structure. The expense ratio sits at just 0.07%, making them competitive with popular dividend-focused funds like Schwab's U.S. Dividend Equity ETF ( SCHD ) & iShares Core Dividend Growth ETF ( DGRO ). SCHD has the lowest expense ratio at 0.06%, while DGRO's is the highest of the group at 0.08%. All three are very reasonable for passively managed funds. For SPYD, an investor would pay $7 for every $10,000 invested. On a positive note, SPYD has the highest yield of the three. SCHD's sits at 3.31%, while DGRO's is the lowest at 1.97%. On this episode of Build Mode, Park joins Isabelle Johannessen to discuss how he and his team are intentionally iterating, fundraising, and scaling Narada. This enterprise AI solution uses large action models to automate complex, multistep workflows across enterprise systems. At face value, Narada has everything that would likely have investors banging down its door: a dream founding team of experienced researchers and operators from Stanford and Berkeley, big name enterprise customers, and a product that works. So in 2024, when Narada applied for Startup Battlefield, it surprised the team how little fundraising they’d done. That choice was by design. “We wanted to not waste too much money,” said Park when asked about why they waited to fundraise. “Because I do believe that when, again, when you have too much money in the bank and you are not near product-market fit, you’re tempted to just spend money on things that actually don’t help you evolve the company in the right way. It removes the friction to do a lot of wrong things.” Park previously founded and exited Coverity. The index for February came in at 52.4%, slightly below January’s metric of 52.6% but well above the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 51.6%. The New Orders Index expanded for the second straight month to 55.8% last month after contracting for four straight months. In January, the ISM Manufacturing Index showed that the PMI reading jumped to 52.6% from 47.9% in December. This marked the strongest reading since 2022, with the sector growing for the first time in a year. The New Orders Index surged to 57.1% in January from 47.4% in December, reaching its highest level since February 2022 and posting its first increase since August 2025.
