Tom Werner Interactive Brokers Group ( IBKR ) has launched a unified interface for trading prediction markets across three platforms — Kalshi ( KALSHI ), CME Group ( CME ), and its subsidiary ForecastEx. The UI aggregates similar contracts from all connected prediction market exchanges into one searchable interface, enabling users to trade contracts across all three prediction market exchanges from a single platform. Clients can access the combined liquidity of all three prediction market venues. The intelligence order interface identifies the most favorable available price across exchanges, while simultaneously allowing traders to see prices across all exchanges. IBKR's prediction markets will initially focus on election outcomes, climate events, and economic indicators. "We will expand access to additional notable exchanges soon," said CEO Milan Galik. Dalin Ou/iStock via Getty Images Quarterly commentary Financial assets experienced mixed returns in the first quarter. The fund posted a negative total return but outperformed the benchmark. Asset allocation and underlying manager performance each contributed positively. Market review and outlook The world financial markets, after performing well in the first two months of the year on continued optimism about trends in economic growth and interest rates, turned lower following the start of the conflict in the Middle East in Iran in early March. The ensuing spike in oil prices, together with concerns about possible shortages of other commodities caused by disrupted supply chains, dampened the growth outlook and led to a sharp rise in inflation expectations. The deteriorating inflation picture, in turn, dashed optimism that central banks could continue cutting rates. In combination, these developments led to a surge in global government bond yields that erased the positive total returns achieved in the first two months of the year. The conflict also fueled a sizable downturn in major global equity indexes in March, sending stocks into the red. With this said, the majority of the negative return for equities stemmed from weakness in the growth style in general, and mega-cap U.S. technology stocks in particular. Conversely, the value style, dividend payers, and more defensive companies generally produced positive returns, benefiting diversified investors. We're encouraged by the broadening of leadership away from the "Magnificent Seven" group of U.S. tech companies, as it provided a tailwind for our diversified positioning. Contributors and detractors Asset allocation made a strong contribution to relative performance in the quarter. We benefited from having an underweight position in U.S. large-cap equities and a corresponding allocation to a real assets portfolio, which was boosted by the strong showing for its holdings in energy stocks and, to a lesser extent, metals...

Gerville/iStock via Getty Images Shares of Fermi ( FRMI ) have been a very poor performer since the IPO last year, losing about 80% of their value. While most AI-related stocks have done very well, Fermi’s highly speculative nature and substantial construction risk have been substantial headwinds. Plus, recent management turmoil is unlikely to engender confidence. Its Q1 earnings release was in line with my expectations, and shares are only moving modestly in response. I rated shares a “ H old” when I last covered Fermi in March, as I felt the valuation was too low to merit a sell, and since then, FRMI has added 12% (though this lags the market’s 17% gain). With updated financials, now is a good time to revisit Fermi. Seeking Alpha Another Quarter With No Tenant Agreements In the company’s first quarter , Fermi lost $0.30 per share. Given the company is pre-revenue with no completed facilities or tenants, losses are to be expected. The loss was driven by $134 million of share-based compensation, and its cash operating costs continue to be low. It used $7 million in operating cash flow. Conversely, it is spending more aggressively on cap-ex. It invested $441 million in its buildout during the quarter and has spent $1.4 billion to date. As a reminder, Fermi has an attractive land position in Texas. This property is well placed for data centers, given a stable environment, connection to major hubs, and positioning adjacent to Texas Tech University. While an attractive place to put data centers, this 7,500-acre campus is currently a construction site, and the company needs to build out all the necessary power infrastructure to support data centers. It ultimately sees the capacity to house 17 GWs of power (equal to 17 nuclear reactors), but this will take years and tens of billions of capital to achieve. Fermi Fermi has $243 million in cash. It did get $785 million of equipment finance loan facilities to help with initial construction, though its borrowing capacity is st...
