Nvidia Corp. is investing in Oxa , the latest British autonomous driving startup to receive backing from the world’s most valuable company. The US chipmaker’s venture capital arm NVentures joined a funding round for Oxa that raised $103 million, the British company said Wednesday. The UK government’s National Wealth Fund committed $50 million, with existing shareholders such as BP Plc ’s venture fund also participating. Oxa declined to comment on its valuation in the round or how much Nvidia invested. Existing backers such as IP Group Plc and Ocado Group Plc have recently written down the value of their investments in the loss-making company, citing funding delays and changes in its commercial outlook. Nvidia’s investment follows its backing of Wayve , the UK self-driving company that raised $1.5 billion at an $8.6 billion valuation last month. Oxa, formerly known as Oxbotica and spun out of Oxford University , was the first company to trial driverless cars on UK roads. It has since shifted its focus to industrial uses such as in factories, at ports and at mines. Read More: Self-Driving Startup Wayve Raises $1.5 Billion for Robotaxi Wars Oxa now retrofits existing vehicles such as tow tractors with autonomy hardware and its software, providing self-driving solutions to companies. It made the change because the market for self-driving passenger cars requires “tens of billions” of dollars in spending, said founder and Chief Technology Officer Paul Newman. “You’ve got to disrupt supply chains, you’ve got uncertain regulatory affairs and it’s unbelievably expensive to get into,” he said in an interview. “Scaling in that environment is so much harder and the economics are nothing like as attractive as doing it in the industrial domain.” The funding will help fuel Oxa’s global expansion, with a focus on the UK, Europe and the Middle East, the company said. The total amount raised in the Series D round could rise in the coming months, it added.

It’s a fictionalised amalgam of many of the members’ real experiences and tells the tale of an older sister who hopes to escape the fate that seems set for her and a younger one who lacks hope that it is possible. Redlight to Limelight is the documentary – part of the BBC’s award-winning Storyville strand – by Bipuljit Basu that follows them as they make their film, building art out of suffering, creating something worthwhile in an environment that seems hellbent on allowing nothing. Keir Starmer’s efforts to reset the UK’s relationship with the EU are lacking in “direction, definition and drive”, parliament’s foreign affairs committee has said. A report based on months of expert witness testimony found the summit between the UK and the EU at Lancaster House last May had “substantially improved the overall political relationship” after years of Brussels-bashing by the Conservatives. But it concluded the UK “lacks clear strategic priorities”, which in turn results in “the appearance that the EU has achieved more concrete progress towards their most pressing demands than the UK”. Emily Thornberry, Labour MP and chair of the committee, said: “Sadly, we found that despite progress in some areas, the government’s reset is languishing, suffering from a lack of direction, definition and drive. It feels as though we are on a journey with no clear destination. “In many areas, the government has failed to provide timelines, milestones or priorities, and it does not appear to have an ambitious, strategic vision for the UK’s new relationship with the EU.” The report said that unless the government provides a structure and clear vision with goals, it will repeat “these mistakes” when it enters the second set of negotiations after a second bilateral summit due to be held in early July. Last May’s summit was hailed as a “historic” moment and resulted in a formal agreement to improve the Brexit deal sealed by Boris Johnson’s government, with goals including a youth mobility scheme, rejoining the Erasmus student programme and an agriculture agreement to reduce barriers for food exporters. So far all that has been announced is a deal on Erasmus, with several key areas including the regulation of chemicals, conformity of standards, mutual recognition of professional qualifications and concessions for touring musicians not on the negotiating table. The report said progress “has not been helped by the EU changing the goalposts recently by demanding a financial contr...

Warner Bros has announced it is to open a 21,000 sq ft Harry Potter store on Oxford Street, one of London’s busiest retail thoroughfares. The studio’s Global Experiences wing says the two-floor shop will be an “interactive retail experience” including recreations of the franchise’s most recognisable locations, as well as “photo moments” and exclusive merchandise. Karl Durrant of Warners’ worldwide retail division said that the store, which is set to open in the autumn, will act as a bridge between the series’ bricks-and-mortar attractions and its “shopping opportunities”. “It will give fans an exciting new way to experience this magical world in the city that features so prominently in the stories,” he said. The store will be located on the corner of Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road, a short walk from the theatre where Potter spin-off stage show The Cursed Child is still running. That show concludes its two-part production on 20 September and will reopen as a one-part production (in line with other productions around the world) on 6 October. London already has a popular but small Harry Potter shop in Kings Cross station, next to a photo opportunity space where visitors can appear to push a trolley through a brick wall, as Harry does in the books to access Platform 93/4. Warners’ Leavesden base just outside London also runs Harry Potter studio tours, and there are six Harry Potter theme park attractions at Universal Studios locations worldwide. Oxford Street already boasts a considerable number of unofficial Harry Potter retail outlets, some of whose business practices recently came under examination. The official London store, which will probably funnel tourists towards its doors and away from more opportunistic outlets, will open in time for what is predicted to be considerable activity around the 25th ...

A record number of people under the age of 20 in Japan were arrested for cannabis offences last year, with experts on social norms attributing the sharp rise to growing despair about the future and the influence of celebrities known to use drugs. According to the National Police Agency (NPA), 1,373 people under the age of 20 were arrested for cannabis offences in Japan in 2025, an increase of more than a fifth from the previous year. The figure is the highest since age-specific drug offence data was first collected in 1990, the agency said. By comparison, just 210 people in this age group were arrested in 2016. Advertisement The number of high school students detained rose by more than half to 313 last year, while arrests of university and junior high school students climbed to 62 and 28, respectively. The remaining cases involved young people who were employed or unemployed. The NPA report noted that younger people “tend to be more likely to try cannabis out of curiosity”. But social and cultural observers say deeper issues are also at play. Advertisement “The increases that we are seeing in illegal drug consumption among young people are a serious and growing problem,” said Izumi Tsuji, a professor of the sociology of culture at Tokyo’s Chuo University and a member of the Japan Youth Study Group.

pabradyphoto/iStock Editorial via Getty Images One of the best AI trades in recent years aside from chipmakers has been construction machinery company Caterpillar Inc. ( CAT ). Shares in the company’s stock are up 250% over the past five years, including a nearly 130% rise over the past year and a whopping 30%+ start YTD. Seeking Alpha - YTD Share Price Performance Of CAT Stock One reason for the outperformance has been CAT's role in the AI economy, specifically the data center buildouts. The ravenous appetite for data centers has been a boom to CAT’s power and energy business, which has quickly become one of the company’s fastest-growing segments. This was reflected in its most recent quarterly results released at the end of January. While I view the outlook ahead as positive, I believe shares are currently a Hold. New investors and existing shareholders likely will have a better entry point with the stock down 10% from its highs as opposed to its current trading value near all-time highs, with the risks of high expectations against it. CAT Stock Key Metrics Shares in CAT are not cheap by any measure. The stock currently commands a forward multiple of over 30x, and this is a premium to both the broader equity markets and to its own historical averages in the low 20x range. In addition, the stock is currently trading at 5x its annual sales, a valuation premium that is double its five-year average. Seeking Alpha - Valuation Metrics Of CAT Stock Though the Seeking Alpha (“SA”) quant scores grade CAT poorly on valuation, I believe the premium is warranted for CAT, especially given its growing role in powering the AI-based economy. Seeking Alpha - Ratings Summary Of CAT Stock Both the broader SA analyst community and those on Wall Street likely would agree. Both groups view shares as a Buy, with those in the latter pool even more bullish. That said, it’s worth noting that current average price targets imply about 3.5% downside from current trading levels. This, to me, i...

Arne Slot described Liverpool’s defeat at Wolves as an episode that “sums up our season” and warned his squad they must address their shortcomings. André’s 94th-minute strike, deflected in via Joe Gomez, represented the fifth winning goal Liverpool have conceded in stoppage time this season and Slot bemoaned a familiar theme as his team struggled to create chances from open play. Liverpool looked to have rescued a point through Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian cancelling out Rodrigo Gomes’s opener in the 83rd minute, but in added time André seized on a clearance by Alisson to compound Liverpool’s frustrations. Liverpool return to Molineux on Friday in the FA Cup fifth round. Asked to sum up his emotions, Slot said: “Same old story. Recently we are picking up points because we score many times from set pieces, but what didn’t change in the last five, six seven games is that we struggle and find it very hard to score from open play chances that we do create. We had far more possession than the other team, we have created more in open play in general than the other team but have struggled to score from open play. “That has happened to us so many times this season. That it happened in injury time may be a coincidence, although it has happened so many times. Recently we have scored a lot from set pieces. Again we had a lot of set pieces but in the first half were very poorly taken. We hardly gave away a chance today, we gave away one chance and conceded two.” Liverpool remain fifth in the Premier League, three points behind Manchester United and Aston Villa, who play Newcastle and Chelsea respectively on Wednesday. “My expectations have changed throughout the season … I expected more from us than where we are fighting now,” Slot said of the battle to qualify for the Champions League. “We didn’t help ourselves with this result. There are still eight Premier League games to play so we are coming closer and closer to the end. We have to do better and play better. We had enou...

A US judge sided with Uber Technologies Inc. in its complaint that American Transit Insurance Co. , the largest taxi insurer in New York City, failed to defend the ride-hailing company in crash cases involving its drivers. ATIC breached its duty to defend Uber in 23 lawsuits brought against the rideshare company and its drivers over crashes involving bodily injuries, US District Judge Analisa Torres said in an order Tuesday. ATIC is liable for resulting damages, and is also required to pay for Uber’s legal fees in the lawsuits. ATIC did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The decision comes as the city’s for-hire vehicle industry has been reeling from ATIC’s insolvency. ATIC had, in part, built its almost 60% market share on low policy rates. That has contributed to decades-long financial troubles as the company didn’t have enough money to cover the losses it insured, Bloomberg News reported in 2024. Read More: NYC’s Top Taxi Insurer Is Insolvent, Risking Transit Chaos In its February 2024 complaint, Uber said ATIC’s failure to honor coverage for its drivers left Uber to pay “substantial amounts” to defend itself. “The court’s decision is an important step toward ensuring insurers meet their obligations, but it doesn’t change the bigger reality that New York’s system is being exploited in ways that drive up costs for everyone,” said Uber spokesperson Josh Gold. Read More: New York Says Cab, Rideshare Insurance Rates to Rise 25% Uber has made a multimillion-dollar lobbying push for insurance reforms to help drive down costs, including supporting New York Governor Kathy Hochul ’s recent proposals to crack down on staged-crash fraud and lawsuit abuse. The company has also filed several racketeering lawsuits around the country, including in New York , Los Angeles and Florida , accusing law firms and clinics of taking advantage of insurance policies and getting large payouts.
