A man has gone on trial accused of the rape of a woman 23 years ago that led to one of the worst miscarriages of justice in Britain. Andrew Malkinson spent more than 17 years in prison after being mistakenly linked to the crime in Greater Manchester in 2003, a jury was told on Wednesday. John Price KC, prosecuting, told Manchester crown court that Malkinson was in fact “the victim of a most terrible miscarriage of justice, one of the worst there has been”. Another man, Paul Quinn, 51, is now on trial accused of two counts of rape, one count of attempt to strangle, and one count of assault intending to cause grievous bodily harm. He denies the charges. Price told jurors that the woman was subjected to sexual violence “of the gravest kind” in the Salford area on 19 July 2003. She was raped twice and strangled until she was unconscious, her left cheekbone fractured by a blow to the face, the court heard. The prosecuting lawyer said the man who carried out the “dreadful assault” was a complete stranger to the victim. Quinn, from Exeter, sat making notes as he listened to proceedings from the glass enclosed dock. Quinn, who lived near the scene of the attack, is accused of following the victim as she approached an embankment near a motorway bridge, where he “suddenly launched his assault”. Price said: “What that tells you, the prosecution submits, is that he wasn’t only a local man. He was someone who knew of that obscure location. While the initiation of piloted transition flights is a positive, certification has been pushed out until at least 2027, which likely means that revenue won’t really begin to scale before 2029. I previously highlighted Archer’s slow progress on flight testing, certification, and manufacturing. At the time, I was fairly neutral about the stock's prospects due to uncertainty around execution and timing. While Archer's stock is down close to 10% since then, the fact that commercialization delays have been digested without more pushback from investors is surprising. The eVTOL opportunity is large though, and recent developments have been positive on the defense front. Archer's stock will also likely continue to benefit from its relationship with high-profile companies like Anduril and Palantir ( PLTR ). Despite this, I continue to believe that Archer has an inferior aircraft and that this will limit the company's success. Archer Aviation Business Updates Archer continues to make progress on the certification front, with the FDA recently confirming final acceptance of 100% of Midnight's Means of Compliance . This is important as it provides Archer with a clear path to demonstrating that its aircraft meet the necessary regulations. It also appears to be an area where Joby's ( JOBY ) progress has stalled, although the reason for this isn't clear. Archer's focus is now likely to begin shifting towards Type Inspection Authorization testing, although this may not occur until 2027. Certification timing remains difficult to project due to the novelty of Archer's aircraft and the relatively nascent state of its flight testing. Q4 revenue and earnings beat estimates Dycom ( DY ) said contract revenues rose 34.4% to $1.46 billion, above the Wall Street consensus estimate of $1.35 billion. Organic contract revenues increased 16.6%, excluding acquired revenues and the extra week in the company’s 53-week fiscal year. Adjusted earnings were $2.03 a share, topping estimates for $1.78 a share. Dycom ( DY ) reported adjusted net income of $60.5 million. Net income fell to $16.3 million, or $0.55 a share, from $32.7 million, or $1.11 a share, a year earlier. Margins, cash flow and backlog Dycom ( DY ) posted adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of $162.4 million, up from $116.4 million a year earlier.
