winhorse/iStock Unreleased via Getty Images I'm keeping ORIX Corporation ( IX ) (8591.T) as a " Buy"-rated name. ORIX's earnings growth accelerated meaningfully in FY26 (YE Mar), which also surpassed management's expectations. Looking ahead, the firm is guiding for an impressive high-teens increase in net income for the new fiscal year. The stock's valuations are attractive with a re-rating potential of +54%. Its current price-to-book multiple isn't reflective of the improving financial return profile. The company's better-than-anticipated shareholder returns and financial numbers for 9MFY26 (YE Mar) were detailed in my prior Feb 10, 2026, write-up . FY26 Net Profit Was A Positive Surprise The group released a set of slides unveiling its annual financials on May 11. ORIX's YoY bottom-line expansion improved substantially from FY2025's +1.6% to FY2026's +27.2%. Its recent full-year earnings of ¥447 billion were also +2% ahead of the management guidance. I've identified the "Environment and Energy (E&E)," "Private Equity and Concession (PE&C)", and Insurance divisions as outperformers. E&E reversed from a -¥5 billion operating loss in the previous fiscal year to record a +¥116 billion EBIT for FY26. ORIX's presentation deck highlighted its "ROE-centered portfolio optimization" which led to "gains on sale of Greenko, Ormat, Zeeklite shares." The company-wide ROE widened by 160 bps to 10.4% during the same period. The PE segment's portfolio firms witnessed profit growth across the board. Its airport operating franchise in Kansai also benefited from higher throughput. These drove a 27% rise in PE&C's FY2026 operating income to ¥126 billion. Last fiscal year, the enterprise's insurance-related operations registered an EBIT of ¥64 billion, representing a 38% increase. The "introduction of higher-value products" and a shift towards "corporate and wealthier clients" were cited as profitability enhancement levers in the results slides. My take is that investors had a favorabl...

Robotics has become one of the hottest stock themes in Asia as the artificial intelligence trade broadens beyond the region’s chipmakers. While the AI boom drove global awareness of Asia’s central role in providing semiconductors required to build and run large-language models, investors are increasingly betting the next wave of value creation will come from robotics. That’s sparking new winners as well as breathing new life into some of the region’s venerable industrial and automation trades. Shares of LG Electronics Inc., which is reportedly discussing a tie-up on humanoids with Nvidia Corp., are up 55% this week in Seoul to rank as the top performer on a key regional benchmark. Japan’s Fanuc Corp. has risen 10% on a deal with Alphabet Inc.’s Google to develop AI for industrial robots . Humanoid stocks climbed again in Korea and China on Friday while the region’s chip shares slumped. “The rally in robotics stocks reflects the AI cycle moving from digital into physical deployment,” said Gary Tan , a portfolio manager at Allspring Global Investments. “‘Physical AI’ is emerging as the next leg of the AI trade.” Read more: Nvidia’s Push Into Physical AI Sparks Rally in Asian Partners South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Co. also gained this week, on news that the nation’s military is exploring a strategic partnership with the automomaker to potentially deploy robotics. Among other robot-related stocks, Taiwan’s Hiwin Technologies Corp. jumped after better-than-expected earnings , and China’s Shenzhen LDRobot Co. more than doubled in its Hong Kong debut. Nvidia has helped drive the trend, with Chief Executive Jensen Huang increasingly framing humanoid robots and autonomous machines as the next major computing platform after generative AI. China has established an early lead as the nation builds out capacity to make robots and posts continued news of locally made humanoids accomplishing various feats. Japan is also seen as well-positioned for the transition because of its decade...

Emerging-market stocks and currencies declined after two consecutive sessions of gains, pressured by rising oil prices and a cautious mood among investors ahead of the weekend. The MSCI Emerging Market Index fell 2.2%, the most in over six weeks, with South Korea leading losses as the artificial intelligence trade fizzled. South Korea’s main equity benchmark tumbled as much as 4.4% on increased selling by overseas investors. Concerns over higher inflation dented risk appetite as Brent crude rose over 1%, with the crucial Strait of Hormuz remaining effectively closed, while there is little progress toward ending the Middle East war. “Risk assets are likely to be stuck in a two-way range for now as US-China talks have not provided too much optimism, but at least there isn’t much pessimism,” said Shaun Lim , an FX strategist at Malayan Banking Bhd, pointing out that issues over the crucial Strait of Hormuz also remain unresolved. While China urged reopening the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible and called for talks on the Iran war, Taiwan remained a subject of tension with the US. A gauge of developing market currencies was 0.2% lower, led by the Thai Baht and South Korean won.
