Key Points Medicare is imposing new limits on coverage in 2026. Millions of retirees will be affected by new preauthorization requirements. Advocates are concerned that the new rules could limit access to crucial care. The $23,760 Social Security bonus most retirees completely overlook › Seniors often need much more medical care than the younger population. This, in part, is why Medicare programs exist -- to ensure that retirees have access to affordable healthcare coverage that pays for critical services. Unfortunately, some new limits are being put in place for Medicare plans in 2026. The new rules have advocates extremely concerned about how access to care for retirees will be affected. Will AI create the world's first trillionaire? Our team just released a report on the one little-known company, called an "Indispensable Monopoly" providing the critical technology Nvidia and Intel both need. Continue » Medicare is imposing strict new rules The rule change that has many people concerned about Medicare coverage is occurring as a result of a program called the Wasteful and Inappropriate Service Reduction (WISeR) model. Under this model, so-called "wasteful" care that Medicare pays for is being targeted. The WISeR program will be operating in six states -- New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, and Washington -- and will affect access to care for around 6.4 million Medicare enrollees within those states. Based on the rules established by the WISeR model, retirees are going to need pre-approval for care that the government has deemed wasteful. While this is common with Medicare Advantage plans, prior authorization like this has almost never been required under traditional Medicare. In fact, the lack of prior authorization is one reason people opt for traditional Medicare during their retirement planning process instead of signing up for an Advantage Plan. However, because the government has deemed that 17 common medical procedures are wasteful, access to those se...

Ali Mohammadi | Bloomberg | Getty Images Iran's Kharg Island, a small but strategically vital strip of land nestled in the waters of the northern Persian Gulf, has been left untouched by U.S. and Israeli forces even as the Middle East conflict enters its second week. The coral island, which is located about 15 miles off the coast of mainland Iran, serves as the centerpiece for Iran's oil industry. It is estimated that around 90% of the country's crude exports pass through it before tankers then travel through the Strait of Hormuz . The island is also said to have a loading capacity of roughly 7 million barrels per day. Kharg Island's economic importance to Iran makes it particularly vulnerable to the threat of military action, although analysts say that any attempt to seize it would likely require a ground troop operation, which the U.S. appears reluctant to undertake. An attack would also likely prompt further energy market volatility at a time when oil prices have soared to more than $100 a barrel . Seizing the island "would cut off Iran's oil lifeline," which is essential for the regime, according to Petras Katinas, a research fellow in climate, energy and defense at RUSI, a London-based defense think tank. "Of course, with shipping via the Strait of Hormuz now stopped, they cannot sell oil anyway, but looking ahead, seizure would give the US leverage during negotiations, no matter which regime is in power after the military operation ends," Katinas told CNBC by email. "Yet, seizure, would require a ground troop operation, which this administration seems hesitant to undertake. At least for now," he added. Crude futures climbed to their highest level since mid-2022 on Monday after the U....

A Hong Kong lawmaker has been fined HK$2,000 (US$256) for driving on the wrong side of a road in Wan Chai earlier this year. Eastern Court on Monday also suspended Judy Chan Kapui, 45, from driving for one month after she pleaded guilty to a count of careless driving. “I deeply regret that my careless driving affected other road users,” Chan told presiding magistrate David Ko Wai-hung, adding that she had stopped driving and would accept any legal consequences. Advertisement Ko noted the defendant was issued a fixed penalty for minor traffic offences on eight previous occasions – a record that “wasn’t too bad” given her 22 years of driving experience since obtaining her licence in 2004. But Ko warned the current offence remained a serious one. Advertisement “You drove in the wrong direction, which was something you did after careful consideration,” the magistrate said. “I don’t care if you were in a hurry or what, but it was not done out of a whim.”
