Joe_Potato/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Thesis Phillips 66 ( PSX ) is a diverse refining company that also has operations in chemicals and midstream industries. All three of its main business segments are generating strong profits, a situation the company has not seen in several years. Now that the company is firing on all cylinders, the cash generation will follow suit. The durability of this upcycle appears to be more than just a blip as global inventories continue to deplete daily. I believe it is still early enough in this upcycle for investors to extract long-term value. I rate PSX as Buy due to strong cyclical performance in both refining and chemical divisions. I expect cash generation abilities to be greater than the last upcycle during the Russian-Ukraine conflict due to significant operational improvements. Quarterly Update and Full Year Outlook PSX reported a surprising earnings beat of $0.49/share in Q1. While this level of earnings is not overly impressive, it surpassed Wall Street’s expectations after the company previously disclosed a negative $900m impact to the business. This significant headwind was attributed both to winter storm Fern affecting midstream operations as well as extreme commodity volatility following the conflict in Iran. The sheer speed and magnitude of the change in commodity prices required the company to bring on short-term debt to cover the cash outflows. Fortunately, the bulk of this debt now sits as cash on the balance sheet in the form of collateral for the company’s hedge book. The company expects that as volatility subsides, this working capital and debt balance should return to normal levels. PSX Investor Presentation As shown below, analyst expectations are for the reversal of this one-time impact to occur almost immediately. This and the continuation of strong margins across both refining and chemical divisions will significantly boost earnings throughout calendar 2026. Seeking Alpha The main variable that remains i...

bymuratdeniz/iStock via Getty Images Shares of GMR Solutions Inc. ( GMRS ) have seen a very soft public offering, with shares trading 40% lower than the preliminary offering range just days ago. This makes the shares trade at much lower valuations and expectations here, but while the percentage move looks quite dramatic, the change in the enterprise valuation is relatively modest with lots of debt employed. This makes me curious but cautious at the same time, as leverage and a historically difficult environment to operate within prevent me from having real conviction here. Other recent IPOs and corporate events are discussed in greater detail at Value in Corporate Events . Emergence Medical Services Global Medical Response Solutions claims to be the largest provider of emergency medical services and a large integrated provider of alternate-site, out-of-hospital care in the U nited States . The company cares for the patient where and when they need help the most, at home, in an accident, or in any other event or place where timely care is needed. The company's operations cover some 1,600 counties, covering some 60% of the U .S. population. The company helps some 15,000 patients per day, about 5.5 million per year, with a team consisting of 24,000 clinicians. The company claims that its network responds to about 10% of all 911 calls and over a third of emergent air medical calls. Operating between hospitals, government, payors, communities, and other care settings, while strained under limited infrastructure, Global Medical plays a vital role. To that end, the company has massive equipment and vehicles, including well over 7,000 ambulances, 400 rotor-wing ambulances, and over 100 fixed-wing ambulances, among others. Valuation And IPO Thoughts Global Medical Response Solutions aimed to sell 32 million shares in a preliminary price range between $22 and $25 per share, yet demand was very soft with pricing set at just $15 per share. All the shares were sold by the compan...

A group of representatives from the World Bank will visit Caracas to engage with government authorities for the first time since reestablishing formal relations last month, according to people familiar with the matter. The trip will be led by the vice president for the Latin America and the Caribbean region, Susana Cordeiro Guerra , the people said, asking not to be named because the information is still not public. A spokesperson from the bank confirmed that a delegation will travel to Caracas after a request for comment from Bloomberg News. The move comes a month after the bank resumed dealings with the government of Venezuela under acting president Delcy Rodriguez. The last loan provided to the country was in 2005. York Space Systems ( YSS ) stock jumped ~12% to around ~$31.64 in post-market trading on Thursday after reporting Q1 results. The company reported FY26 Q1 revenue of $116.34M (+9.5% Y/Y), beating estimates by $6.73M, with gross profit at $22.15M. The rally came despite a wider net loss of $114.84M vs. $11.73M a year ago, mainly due to higher costs and an $84.70M stock compensation expense, while gross margin slipped to 19%. Despite near-term pressure, what stood out for investors was the growth pipeline. Backlog rose to $642M, supported by a new $187M multi-year commercial satellite contract and continued government/defense wins. At the same time, York Space Systems strengthened its balance sheet after raising ~$583M through its IPO, taking total liquidity to about $806M, including ~$655.69M in cash. Strategically, that gives room to fund space-defense ecosystem expansion via acquisitions like Orbion Space Technology and the planned ALL.SPACE deal, both aimed at building a full satellite communications ecosystem. Even with higher losses weighing on sentiment, FY26 revenue guidance was reaffirmed at $545M–$595M. However, the stock remains down ~16% over the past week versus the S&P 500’s ( SP500 ) ~1.4% gain. Overall, the mix of strong revenue growth, expanding backlog, strategic acquisitions, and solid liquidity explains why the stock reacted positively after earnings. More on York Space Systems, Inc. While a resolution in the Middle East could trigger a swift drop in oil prices, Canada’s energy sector is poised to gain from the supply shock. Menno Hulshof, Managing Director for Equity Research with TD Cowen says today’s surge is fueling outsized cash flow, accelerating growth plans, and giving Canadian producers more flexibility on capital returns. Transcript Greg Bonnell: Elevated energy prices have provided a boost to the Canadian oil and gas sector. But will this be a longer-term trend, even after the Middle East conflict ends? Joining us now to discuss is Menno Hulshof, managing director for equity research with TD Cowen. Menno, great to have you on the program. We've just come through an earnings season. We've seen elevated energy prices. How did that play through? How big of a theme was that for the Canadian energy patch? Menno Hulshof: Yeah, thanks for having me on, Greg. To your point, WTI oil prices are now north of $100. And the volatility is at a level I certainly have never seen before. And I think the implications of that are threefold. First off, the obvious one, we're seeing much higher free cash flow. Second, companies seem to be getting more comfortable talking up growth. And then we are-- and this is more nuanced-- but we are seeing more companies suggesting that they're about to get more flexible in terms of shareholder capital return framework. So, just touching on free cash flow-- the upside is very significant, since many companies had only budgeted $60 WTI for this year, and also because cost structures are much lower than they were before COVID. And market access is much better, meaning tighter heavy oil differentials and better pricing. On the growth side of things, we've seen several companies highlight expansion potential through reporting. I think it was really Suncor ( SU ) that started that trend at its investor day, where it guided to 100,000 barrels a day of new capacity through 2028. And then, since then, we've seen other compani...

Perhaps you remember Muneeb and Sohaib Akhter, the 34-year-old twin brothers we profiled earlier this week . Perhaps you remember Muneeb and Sohaib Akhter, the 34-year-old twin brothers we profiled earlier this week . Although they had the tech chops to commit years of petty crimes (like stealing airline miles), what landed them in truly serious trouble was deleting 96 US government databases in the hour after both were fired last year by the same federal IT contractor, Opexus. (Opexus had just found out that both brothers had previously been in prison for cyberfraud.) The pair come off less as cybercriminal masterminds than as galumphing galoots —that is to say, a pair of bumbling oafs who thought that asking AI how to cover their tracks was going to keep them out of federal prison. One of the minor mysteries I encountered while writing the piece was that the government had a verbatim transcript of everything the brothers said to each other during their hour-long deletion spree. The two men lived together in Arlington, Virginia, so it made sense that they might be chatting in the same room rather than by text or instant message. But how the heck had the government gotten access to the audio? Supersecret software bugging? Crazy corporate spyware running on their company laptops? FBI agent in the bushes with a microphone?
