Our reviewer braved Peak District downpours to see which brollies – from budget to mini to windproof – stayed standing • 10 stylish and practical ways to look good in wet weather We Britons have loved brollies since about the turn of the 19th century. Previously an aristocratic luxury, today they’re a broad tent covering tight budgets and expensive tastes alike. You’ll see them sprout like mushrooms whenever rain hits the high street. Most decent umbrellas will keep you dry(ish), but peek closer and you’ll find that not all are the same. Some have a stronger, smoother mechanisms; others are lighter and more comfortable to hold. The best stand out for thoughtful details: from polished wooden handles to gleaming tips, a brolly’s aesthetic finish can often be a clue to how long it will last. mikdam/iStock via Getty Images SES S.A. ( SGBAF ) was highlighted as one of our strongest picks for 2026, and the company’s recent share price performance is proving this call to be well-founded. In numbers, since our Strong Buy Recommendation (made at the end of 2025), we are up by more than 35%. Here at the Lab, we also reiterated our rating during the FY 2025 results. For our new readers, the company is a satellite operator that delivers broadcasting and connectivity services through a multi-orbit fleet. This enables the company to deliver TV, radio, and enterprise connectivity across sectors such as Media, Aviation, Maritime, and Government entities. Our rating was supported by SES's recent acquisition of Intelsat (which supports lower CAPEX evolution), growth in its networks division (backed by higher defense spending ), and C-Band upside. Additionally, after the acquisition, the company aims to achieve significant synergies and a lower debt trajectory. This already creates a positive framework for shareholder remuneration. Following the Q1 results, developments continue to move in the right direction. This reinforces our positive view on the investment case and leads us to maintain our Overweight rating. Q1 Results SES reported a solid Q1, with top-line sales reaching €847 million (Fig. 1). This represented an increase of more than 80% year over year on a reported basis, but was mainly driven by Intelsat's consolidation. So, on a like-for-like basis and at constant FX, SES turnover increased by 3.1%, confirming continued underlying growth across the core business. The company reported an adjusted EBITDA of €404 million, up 57% year over year, and at +5% on a like-for-like basis. SES Q1 Financials in a Snap Fig 1 Why are we still positive? Here at the Lab, we continue to believe that a Europe-based player will benefit from the evolving geopolitical environment. Following the growing uncertainty around future transatlantic policy (due to Trump), we believe there...

Emerging-market stocks advanced for the third day this week as technology companies in Taiwan and China joined a hot streak by South Korean peers, buoyed by optimism that talks between the US and China will improve trade ties and boost demand for artificial intelligence-related hardware and services. The benchmark MSCI EM equity index rose 0.7%, extending this month’s gains to more than 7%. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd., Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. contributed 105% of the gauge’s gains, meaning it would be trading lower but for those three stocks. Chipmakers have led the rebound in stocks since the beginning of April, as earnings upgrades overshadowed concerns about inflation sparked by the Iran war. Expectations of a thaw in US-China relations during President Donald Trump’s summit with Xi Jinping backed demand for AI-related companies, as the Chinese leader signaled that Beijing may be open to business deals and purchasing commitments. While the information technology index jumped 1.4% on Thursday, other sectors including utilities, energy and industrials fell, marking the gap between Asian tech and the rest of emerging market stocks. “Emerging-market stocks are completely bifurcated into AI and non-AI,” said Kamil Dimmich , a partner at North of South Capital. “As long as US hyperscalers and AI companies continue to grow their capex, this is not likely to change as earnings at their Korean and Taiwanese suppliers eclipse everything else.” Read more: World’s Biggest Stock Rally Ignites Speculative Mania in Korea Emerging-market currencies were largely steady as the dollar traded flat. The Turkish lira retreated for the sixth day after the central bank revised its inflation forecast for the end of 2026 to 24% from 16%, citing the US-Israeli war on Iran and its impact on prices. The Hungarian forint fell for a third day following a central bank move to lower the interest rate on its foreign-currency swaps. The nation’s 1...
