Greggory DiSalvo/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Telos Corporation ( TLS ) recently reported its Q1 ’26 earnings, which were not very well received, so I wanted to go through the numbers in more detail and give some comments on the outlook and why I am still on the fence. By the Numbers Starting from the top, revenue came in at around $47.74m, which is up 56% y/y, and beat consensus by around $3.2m. Looking at the revenue mix, we can see that the growth was primarily driven by higher TSA PreCheck enrollment activity, as well as broader strength across Security Solutions programs, such as DMDC/IT GEMS. Revenue from services increased 46% to $42m, while revenue from products seems a lot more impressive percentage-wise, because it grew 220%, but the dollar value went from $1.7m to $5.68m. Going over the company’s profitability, gross margin was 36.4% on a GAAP basis, which is 340 bps lower than the same time last year. The company also reconciles something called a cash gross margin, which is its own adjusted gross margin without SBC and D&A in the cost of sales line item. I suppose I see the reason to exclude them since they do not represent actual cash change in the quarter, but I’m still not a fan of this extra adjustment right from the top, when most companies are fine with reported GAAP gross margins as their main gross margins. GAAP operating income came in at 3% vs. (29%) at the same time last year, so there was quite a big improvement already. On an adjusted basis, adjusted EBITDA came in at $7.86m, or 16.5% margin, which is also a vast improvement over last year’s 1.2%. GAAP net income was $2m or 4.2% margin, while adjusted bottom line came in at $4.3m, or 9% of revenues. Q1 Adjusted EPS came in at 6 cents, which beat analysts’ estimates by 4 cents. Let’s take a look at the company’s financial position. TLS finished the quarter with around $50m in cash and equivalents against no long-term debt, apart from some operating lease liabilities. Earnings Call Insights: American Public Education (APEI) Q1 2026 Management View "Total revenue grew 6.2% year-over-year and at the top end of our guidance range," said President, CEO & Director Angela Selden, adding that "Today, we are raising our full year 2026 guidance on both revenue and adjusted EBITDA" and "we are also raising our full year EPS guidance." "Health+ revenue grew 11%, consistent with our 4-year plan," said CEO Selden, citing "8% enrollment growth" previously disclosed and stating "our new Rasmussen, Orlando campus now enrolling students and building momentum in its first full quarter of operations." Selden also said, "we expect to complete the relocation of the Hondros College of Nursing Cincinnati campus in the back half of 2026" and expect the "new Detroit campus to be ready to enroll students in the first quarter of 2027." On Military+, Selden said "the 4% registration growth met guidance" and that the segment "operated at an adjusted EBITDA margin of approximately 36% in the first quarter," while noting "a portion of this outperformance was due to shifts in marketing spend between Q1 and Q2." She added that Navy, Air Force and Marine registrations were slowing in Q2 due to deployments, but "we remain confident in our full year guidance." "On April 28, we received approval from our accreditor, Higher Learning Commission to consolidate our APUS Rasmussen and Hondros College of Nursing programs, locations and operations into a single accredited institution," Selden said, adding, "we continue to target an effective date for consummation of the combination at the beginning of the third quarter of 2026." "Total revenue in the first quarter was $174.7 million" and "first quarter adjusted EBITDA was $29.2 million," said Executive VP & CFO Edward Codispoti. He added, "we ended the first quarter in a very strong balance sheet position" with "cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash totaled $221 million" and "total debt under our credit agreement was ...

Olemedia GitLab ( GTLB ) was in focus on Tuesday after the company announced layoffs and said it would restructure its business around artificial intelligence, prompting Raymond James to downgrade the stock. Shares tumbled 12% in premarket trading. “We are downgrading GTLB to Market Perform from Outperform as we digest management’s letter to employees released this afternoon outlining an intent for major internal changes in an effort to move GitLab to its second act as a public company,” Raymond James analysts wrote in a note to clients. “F1Q and FY27 guidance was reaffirmed with this release, and while investors may breathe a near-term sigh of relief on F1Q, this creates risk for the remainder of the year as these changes are meaningful. In short, this includes an attempt to rearchitect the platform while also reducing headcount which we find challenging.” More on GitLab GitLab: Something Needs To Change GitLab: Finally Time For A Bullish Stance GitLab: Growth Is Slowing, But Cheap Enough To Keep Buying Biggest stock movers Tuesday: PLUG, HIMS, and more GitLab to cut workforce as it restructures operations around AI

Volkan ISIK/iStock via Getty Images PennyMac Mortgage Investment Trust ( PMT ) has three issues of preferred shares outstanding at present. ( PMT.PR.A ) offers a dividend yield of ~8.74% on a trailing basis. The second one, ( PMT.PR.B ), offers an identical dividend yield to Series A preferred shares of around ~8.7% at current market prices. The third and the most recent issue,( PMT.PR.C ) , suggests a dividend yield of ~9.19% at the current market price of ~$18.35. The focus of this analysis therefore would primarily be on Series C preferreds and although all three series of preference shares rank pari passu with each other, the reason for selecting Series C is due to its significant discount to par and the room for capital appreciation optionality. The possibility of appreciation in prices in case of interest rates going down is significantly more on a relative basis in case of Series C and also considering the current gap between market price and par value, which is around ~36%, the possible room for capital appreciation is quite meaningful on an absolute basis as well. At the same time, the other two Series A and Series B are also undergoing litigation due to a lawsuit by a shareholder alleging the company for unfairly transitioning to a fixed-rate structure instead of SOFR post LIBOR transition. While the importance of the litigation or the current treatment of the other two series is not what leads to the selection of Series C, the primary driver remains the discount to par, leading to the possibility of capital appreciation. The Series A and Series B have already passed their call date and as per the prospectus are callable at the option of the company. The call provision is there for Series C as well, but the fact remains that the current discount to par substantially makes this beneficial for the preferred shareholder than otherwise, and unless those shares are closer to par, they would still be positively impacted by market interest rate declines, if any. ...
