Emma Raducanu suffered a heavy defeat in just 52 minutes to Amanda Anisimova in the third round at Indian Wells. The British No 1 was well below par in a 6-1 6-1 loss to the American world No 6. Raducanu, seeded 25, may have been struggling with a fitness issue as she repeatedly refused to chase down drop shots. The 23-year-old’s first serve misfired badly and she hit just two winners to her opponent’s 21. “I think I can be very pleased with my performance today,” Anisimova said in her on-court interview. “I had a tough first round so just went out to be fearless. I wanted to enjoy it and wanted to keep the run going.” The top seed, Aryna Sabalenka, eased into the last 16 with a 6-4 6-1 win over Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian. She will meet Naomi Osaka, who needed all three sets to get past Camila Osorio of Colombia 6-1 3-6 6-1. “I can only say that I tried to be more positive,” said Osaka of the third set. “I feel like the second set I was complaining a lot and then I just kind of thought my daughter could be watching me mope around the court. So I needed to pick up my attitude and that’s kind of what I did in the third.” In the men’s draw, the second seed, Jannik Sinner, needed just 71 minutes to book his place in the last 16 with a 6-3 6-2 win over Canada’s Denis Shapovalov. “It’s a very tough second match for me,” Sinner said. “He’s a very high quality player … he had great wins in the past so I’m very happy about today’s performance.” The fourth seed, Alexander Zverev, was made to work harder before beating Brandon Nakashima 7-6 5-7 6-4 in just over two and a half hours. “He played a fantastic match today,” Zverev said of Nakashima, who had 17 aces to Zverev’s 15. “He served like I have never seen before. He was hitting his spots well. Every ace was more or less on the line for him, so I’ve got to give credit to him. He played a great match.”

The Oil Island That Could Break Iran Authored by Scott Walden via E&E News, One of President Donald Trump’s most potent moves for crippling the Iranian regime may involve seizing a tiny island where gazelles run free near oil infrastructure. The 5-mile strip of land known as Kharg Island is home to Iran’s most important oil facility, an export terminal in the Persian Gulf that handles up to 90 percent of the nation’s crude. It’s a cornerstone of Iran’s economy and a major source of revenue for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, a pillar of the regime that experts say could put down the kind of public uprising that Trump has called for. If Trump intends to intensify pressure on Iran outside of missile strikes and bombings, seizing Kharg Island would deprive the regime of a key funding source for controlling the population, said Michael Rubin, a senior Pentagon adviser on Iran and Iraq in the George W. Bush administration. He said he has been communicating with White House officials about the strategic importance of the island. “If they can’t sell their own oil, they can’t make payroll,” said Rubin, who is now a scholar at the conservative American Enterprise Institute. “No matter how much we bomb, there’s not going to be regime change until we fracture the Revolutionary Guard, and if this can be a fairly nonviolent way of doing it, all the better,” he added. Oil is the lifeblood of the Revolutionary Guard. About half of the nation’s $50 billion oil industry is controlled by the force, Reuters has reported . That includes a ghost fleet of oil tankers that take its sanctioned crude abroad, mostly to China. Rubin, who has been in contact with administration officials about seizing Kharg, said his recommendations have been circulated within the National Security Council. He believes Trump is relying on a small circle of advisers, and it’s not clear if they’re aware of the island’s strategic importance, Rubin said. “If they themselves aren’t familiar with Kharg, then it doe...

His island home is shrouded in mist, but his union jack woolly hat makes Hideya Yagi easy to spot as he greets the approaching boat. The 80-year-old, a former president of a construction company, is pleased to see the small group of passengers disembark, mainly because he is one of only seven registered residents at their destination, Kasasa island. Kasasa is known as the “Hawaii” of Japan’s inland sea because of its warm climate and beautiful coastline. Yagi and his wife, Mihoko, eke out a quiet life alongside just one other couple and an elderly woman. The other two residents are almost always absent. “You can stand on the quayside and just reel the fish in,” he says as he stands on the rudimentary quay and lets his mind wander towards the hobby that brought him to the island 25 years ago. “And you can eat what you catch straight away.” View image in fullscreen Yagi at Kinsasa’s harbour. It sits at a sensitive spot for national security, close to two key military bases. Iwakuni US Marine Corps airbase is 20km away and a Japanese Maritime Self-Defence force base is 50km to the north, in the city of Kure. When it emerged that wealthy Chinese developers had bought and then started to develop two plots of land, rumours that they could be used by Beijing for surveillance began to swirl, leading one councillor to claim that the island “could eventually become a Chinese island”. Critics have pointed out that the same laws apply to landowners regardless of their nationality but the debate has continued inside Japan regardless. In the space of a few months, the modest island – measuring just 700 sq metres – has become emblematic of the worsening ties between the two countries, as well as Japan’s fears about Beijing’s ambitions in the region. Foreign ownership of land in politically sensitive...

Reports also suggest that Musk could be looking to raise funds through initial public stock sales at a price that would value the company at more than $1.75 trillion. Read on for a look at three things you should know about Starlink. 1. Starlink is growing at a rapid pace Starlink allows users to easily access satellite internet in areas that might not otherwise offer high-speed services. Demand for the technology has been robust, and the service is adding subscribers at an impressive rate. Starlink had roughly 4.6 million subscribers at the end of 2024. By 2025's close, the service had more than 9 million subscribers. By February 2026, Starlink's subscriber count had reportedly reached more than 10 million. The service has more than 2 million subscribers in the U.S., but it's available in more than 155 markets -- and it's likely that Starlink's subscriber count will continue to scale rapidly. 2. Starlink isn't SpaceX's only space business While Starlink is the part of SpaceX's business that consumers are most likely to be familiar with, the company also provides rocket-launch services that allow third parties to get satellites and other payloads into orbit. While competitors including Rocket Lab are growing rapidly, SpaceX remains the clear-cut leader in commercial third-party launch services. The scale of SpaceX's launch business could allow Starlink to post margins that surpass competitors including AST SpaceMobile and overall margin strength that helps support robust earnings growth. While its key satellite-internet competitors need to pay third parties for rocket-launching services in order to get their tech into orbit, SpaceX can do it all in house and also enjoys economies-of-scale benefits thanks to being the largest launch company. 3. Some investors think SpaceX and its Starlink ...
