HandBrake 1.11 was released today as a major update to this free and open-source video transcoder application for converting between a multitude of video file formats. Coming six months after HandBrake 1.10.2, the HandBrake 1.11 release introduces an AMD VCN AV1 10-bit encoder, a ProRes encoder, a DNxHR encoder, an AV1 VCN 2160p 4K preset for AMD 9000 series GPUs and newer, Production DNxHR presets, Production ProRes presets, and Preservation FFV1 FLAC and PCM presets. HandBrake 1.11 also updates the Preservation FFV1 preset to pass through all supported audio codecs, adding Apple Lossless, PCM, and Vorbis to the pass-through list, adds support for encoding files to the MOV container format, and adds support for muxing FFV1 in the MP4 container. On top of that, this release improves AV1 in MP4 seeking on Apple software, properly tags Dolby Vision profile 5 videos with a color tag, adds PCM encoding and passthru, adds support for custom channels order, and adds support for properly handling the case in which the first chapter timestamp is not zero. For Linux users, HandBrake 1.11 adds buttons to cycle through previews on the summary page, adds an option to change the UI display language, improves the display of file sizes, adds support for using GtkFileLauncher to open files in sandboxed apps (e.g., Flatpak), and improves disk space checks. Under the hood, HandBrake 1.11 ships with many updated components, including AMF 1.5.0 (AMD VCN video encoding), FFmpeg 8.0.1, HarfBuzz 12.2.0, libdav1d 1.5.3, libdvdnav 7.0.0, libdvdread 7.0.1, libopus 1.6.1, libbluray 1.4.0, libjpeg-turbo 3.1.3, liblzma (xz) 5.8.2, libvpx 1.16.0, SVT-AV1 4.0.1, x265 r13309, and oneVPL 2.16.0. Check out the release notes on the project’s GitHub page for more details about the changes included in the HandBrake 1.11 release, which you can download from the same location as a Flatpak app that you can install on virtually any GNU/Linux distribution or a source tarball that you have to manually compil...
