In some ways, history is repeating itself. In 1982 Chelsea and Wrexham met in the FA Cup after they had beaten Hull City and Nottingham Forest, respectively, in the previous round. The same has happened in 2026; but this is where the similarities end. When the clubs met 44 years ago they were both in the second tier and had huge debts. With Chelsea reportedly £1.6m in the red, the future of Stamford Bridge was in doubt as property developers hovered. Relegation-threatened Wrexham spent the majority of the 1980s merely trying to survive. On top of inconsistent league form and financial woe, Chelsea also had problems with their supporters. After trouble at Derby in November 1981, the FA banned Chelsea fans from away matches. However, policing the ban proved almost impossible. Chelsea fans continued to travel and make their way into the home ends of various grounds. The ban was lifted after a few months but the episode did little for the club’s reputation. The 1981-82 league season was not so good for Wrexham – they were relegated to the third tier – but their FA Cup run brought some positivity. The club pulled off a big shock in the third round, beating Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest 3-1 at the City Ground. They went behind in the second minute but three goals in 12 minutes from Steve Dowman, Mick Vinter and Dixie McNeil handed Wrexham a richly deserved win. The new “Transparency Tags” metadata system for Apple Music was announced in a newsletter to industry partners yesterday, according to Music Business Worldwide, and covers four categories, including track, composition, artwork, and music videos. The track tag should be applied when “a material portion of a sound recording” has been generated by AI tools, while the composition tag covers other AI-generated compositional elements, such as song lyrics. The artwork tag applies to static or moving graphics, but only at the album level. For all other AI-generated visual content — whether standalone or bundled with albums — the music video tag should be applied. Multiple transparency tags can be used simultaneously for works that require more than one of these disclosures. In its newsletter, Apple says its new tags are a “concrete first step” toward achieving industry-wide transparency around AI-generated music, and that labels and distributors “must take an active role in reporting when the content they deliver is created using AI.” Apple Music’s tagging system follows other efforts from competing music streaming providers to protect authentic artists from spam and impersonation, and help make AI-generated music easier for users to identify. While most of the venture world has been chasing AI deals, Max Hodak — the co-founder and former president of Neuralink — has been working on a startup that claims to be on the verge of being the first brain-computer interface company to get a product to market. Those claims haven’t gone unnoticed. Hodak’s startup, Science Corporation, said Wednesday morning that it has raised $230 million in a Series C funding round. A source close to the startup says the round granted Science Corp. a post-money valuation of $1.25 billion. In the short-term, Science Corp. is betting on PRIMA, a chip said to be smaller than a grain of rice that, when implanted in the eye, works with camera-equipped glasses to restore functional vision to people suffering from advanced macular degeneration. The startup hasn’t fully developed the tech itself: It bought PRIMA’s assets in 2024 from French outfit Pixium Vision, refined it, and completed trials that Pixium had started. But the clinical results Science has since generated are its own. In trials spanning 47 patients across Europe and the U.S., 80% demonstrated meaningful improvement in visual acuity and were able to read letters, numbers, and words, the company says. “To my knowledge, this is the first time that restoration of the ability to fluently read has ever been definitively shown in blind patients,” Hodak told TechCrunch in an interview in December. The startup’s device has also made the cover of Time magazine. It isn’t clear when PRIMA will be available to patients, but the regulatory path is taking shape. Once you turn 73, you're no longer in complete control of when you take money out of your retirement accounts. You have to take required minimum distributions (RMDs) from select accounts, and you usually have to pay taxes on that money, too. Skipping your RMDs results in a costly 25% penalty, so it's important not to miss your deadline. This might leave you wondering whether it's worth getting it out of the way now. It could be, but it depends a lot on what's most important to you. Should you take your RMD right now? Most people have until Dec. 31 of the year in question to take their RMDs, so you still have plenty of time to take your 2026 RMD. However, those who turned 73 last year actually have until April 1, 2026 to take their 2025 RMD. If you're in this group and haven't done this yet, you should absolutely take your RMD in March. Act as quickly as possible. If this doesn't apply to you, you have to think about what matters most to you. If you're worried you'll forget to take your RMD if you don't take it soon, it might be wise to get it out of the way now. The downside to doing this is that you'll miss out on the investment earnings you may have gotten throughout the rest of 2026. But this isn't guaranteed. If your investments decline over the coming months, you might be glad you got your RMD out of the way earlier. Eoneren/iStock via Getty Images While the war in the Middle East continues, aside from higher energy prices, the incoming data on the domestic front reflects an economy that is gaining strength to start the new year. Investors would be wise to ignore the doomsday drumbeat from bearish prognosticators and focus on the fundamentals, which are building the case for more bull market gains. The major market indexes rose sharply yesterday, erasing the losses from earlier this week. Assuming the peak in oil prices on Monday is not surpassed, we have probably seen the extent of the geopolitical-driven drawdown. That is a big if! If not, we are likely to test Monday’s low. At the same time, I think significantly higher oil prices would also force the Trump administration to deescalate. The President is particularly sensitive to market performance. Finviz Yesterday, I noted that oil prices have only been detrimental to economic expansions when we have seen more than a 100% increase in price within a 12-month period. That would require $115 per barrel today. Regardless, stocks will likely trade on an inverse basis with oil until the war-premium subsides. In the meantime, the economy appears to have picked up speed in February, as fiscal stimulus from tax refunds, tax cuts, and accelerated depreciation stimulate growth. Its Services Index (PMI) rose 2.3% points to 56.1, which is the fastest pace of expansion since mid-2022. Despite these, the company is confident in a very good 2026, with improving results across two of three segments, and much better adjusted profitability. The worst quarter should be Q1 with improvements ahead. Koppers might sound attractive, trading at ~$37 while offering an adjusted EPS figure of ~$4.2/5 for FY26. However, just like we have good and bad years, we need to remember that Koppers is a very cyclical name. On a cyclical basis, I believe the name is not attractive, and I maintain a Hold rating. 4Q25 results As we had seen in previous articles from FY25, Koppers had faced a challenging year in its two most profitable segments (Performance Chemical and RUPS) because of lower demand and higher competition. This led to lower revenues, which were offset at the EBITDA level by significant cost-cutting. The fourth quarter was not very different in this respect. All of the company's segments showed much lower revenues, but in two of them, adjusted EBITDA was either the same or higher, thanks to cost-cutting. Starting with the star PC. The company lost a lot of volume YoY (-16%), with a corresponding impact on revenues (-14%). However, it was able to post flat adjusted EBITDA, at $28 million ($29 million last year). This is interesting because revenues had fallen 10% in 4Q24 vs. 4Q23, yet EBITDA was flat. The company 'achieved' this because of lower input costs (which are not yet translated to revenue pressure). For the year, the picture is different, with the segment losing almost $40 million in adjusted EBITDA (-28%). In RUPS, the situation was mixed. Concerns about the impact of sharply higher energy prices are likely to weigh on Wall Street, as the price of crude oil resumed its surge after ending yesterday's trading only modestly higher. The jump in crude oil prices comes amid ongoing supply disruption worries due to the expanding conflict in the Middle East.
