Pentagon Confirms All 6 Crew Dead As Pro-Iran Iraqi Militants Claim They Downed US Refueling Plane Update(1030ET) : The Pentagon has just confirmed two additional deaths in Thursday's downing of a KC-135 refueling tanker aircraft over Western Iraq. This brings the total deaths to six in the incident, which marks the single deadliest aerial event for the US side in the war. US: ALL CREW MEMBERS OF KC-135 LOSS IN IRAQ CONFIRMED DECEASED The Pentagon has further reiterated its stance it was not enemy or friendly fire . * * * The overnight confirmation that a US KC-135 went down over Western Iraq marks the single deadliest aerial incident suffered by the United States since the start of Operation Epic Fury. A Friday morning Pentagon briefing has confirmed that four of the six crew members on board have died , as rescue efforts for the two other service members continue. "The circumstances of the incident are under investigation," it said in a statement on Friday. The Pentagon and US CENTCOM have sought to emphasize the KC-135 aircraft was not downed "due to hostile fire or friendly fire," adding that it had crashed at about 2pm Eastern Time (19:00 GMT). Illustrative: USAF image CENTCOM further said it had occurred in "friendly airspace" (of Iraq) but was operating in connection with Operation Epic Fury against Iran. Adding to the confusion in terms of precisely what happened, the incident appeared to involve two planes , possibly colliding or engaging in close maneuvers, with the second plane - possibly damaged - having "landed safely" in Israel . The initial official statement CENTCOM issued Thursday evening said : U.S. Central Command is aware of the loss of a U.S. KC-135 refueling aircraft. The incident occurred in friendly airspace during Operation Epic Fury, and rescue efforts are ongoing. Two aircraft were involved in the incident. One of the aircraft went down in western Iraq, and the second landed safely. The identities of the service members were being withheld...

Investor attention remains focused on the Iranian conflict. Crude oil futures surging over 100% in recent weeks trading up to $119 has pushed the S & P 500 lower. I want to use SPY put options to create income on this pop in volatility and the associated elevated option premiums in the widely traded S & P 500 Index ETF (SPY) . The S & P 500 has indeed pulled back nearly 6% from its late-January highs, with the index currently testing critical support levels around 6,700. However, the "buy the dip" mentality is not as straight forward as usual due to the complexity of the current global macro environment in the Strait of Hormuz. Technically, I want to rely on — and even lean against — the 200-day moving average, which has been quite supportive in the last year. That being said, in the event the war lasts longer, or the off ramp is not as clean as market optimists (like myself) predict, we have to define the risk and the downside exposure. Data is being downplayed as the U.S.-Iran war remains front-and-center for risk appetite, but the Fed's preferred indicator in PCE was slightly cooler-than-expected this morning. The personal consumption expenditures price index grew 2.8% in January year over year . That's below a Dow Jones consensus of 2.9%. When volatility and emotions are high, I try to capture the spike in options premium … not always easy to recommend, though. In this instance, I am selling a put spread which allows an investor to collect a significant amount of premium as the VIX stays stubbornly around 25. I am selling the SPY put just about 2% lower from where it is currently trading but, I am keeping in mind that the S7P 500 just had its lowest close of 2026. The trade Sold the March 27 SPY $660 put for $9 Bought the March 27 SPY $640 put for $4.25 An investor collects $4.75 per one put spread, or $475. This put spread was executed when SPY was roughly trading $470. DISCLOSURES: Kilburg has this spread on and is also long SPY. All opinions expressed by the ...

Welcome back to FOIA Files! And happy forthcoming Sunshine Week , an annual celebration (and a time to vociferously complain ) about transparency ( or lack thereof ) and open government ( debatable ). The festivities start Sunday. The occasion also marks the second anniversary of my newsletter! Thank you to all my readers for the support, encouragement and tips! It’s a perfect opportunity to highlight some of the more noteworthy documents I’ve scored via the FOIA over the years. I hope that will continue to serve as motivation to the public to keep filing records requests, despite the roadblocks and … always appeal those denials! Check out this interview I did with the Reuters Institute for additional insight into my FOIA work! If you’re not already getting FOIA Files in your inbox, sign up here . Before I dive in, a couple of announcements: I’ll be in Washington next week speaking on a couple of panels at Sunshine Fest and in Chicago on March 21 at FOIA Fest for a live taping of my podcast, Disclosure . Please send all of your burning FOIA and public records questions to jleopold15@bloomberg.net . My co-host, attorney Matt Topic, and I will answer them during our discussion! One more sunshine note: The path to cutting through the secrecy within the US Capitol Police may soon be within reach. Earlier this week, US District Court Judge Beryl Howell issued an opinion in my case that is arguing for access to 100 Capitol Police policy directives that were in effect on Jan. 6, 2021, the day of the Capitol riots. The directives have long been shrouded in secrecy. The Capitol Police argued that the case should be dismissed because the court doesn’t have the authority to force the law enforcement agency to release records. Because the Capitol Police is part of the legislative branch and not subject to FOIA, my attorneys at the Reporters Committee for the Freedom of the Press (shout out to their FOIAwiki !) sued to compel disclosure under the common law right of access to pu...
