Earnings Call Insights: Mount Logan Capital Inc. (MLCI) Q4 2025 Management View CEO Edward Goldthorpe highlighted the company's transformation in 2025, stating "A year ago, Mount Logan Capital was a Canadian domiciled, IFRS reporting company... Today, we are a U.S. domiciled, NASDAQ-listed, GAAP reporting and investment-grade alternative asset management and insurance solutions platform with $2.1 billion in assets under management." He emphasized the completion of the business combination with 180 Degree Capital and the subsequent strategic focus on growth, including the announced Yieldstreet transaction. Goldthorpe detailed the SOFIX fund's acquisition of Yieldstreet Alternative Income Fund assets, which will nearly double SOFIX net assets by adding over $100 million, noting "We estimate the transaction will increase Mount Logan's FRE by at least $2.8 million annually, more than 30% growth for our 2025 FRE. The transaction is expected to be immediately accretive to our earnings per share once closed." He discussed a $40 million bond offering at an 8% rate, a $15 million tender offer, and a new $10 million share repurchase program through December 2027, as well as a quarterly dividend of $0.03 per share. CFO Nikita Klassen stated, "For the full year 2025, total revenue was $53.6 million, up approximately 8% year-over-year. We reported a post-tax net loss of $60.8 million for the period. These results were primarily driven by nonrecurring and mostly noncash items, including transaction and integration costs related to the business combination, impairment of legacy intangible assets within the Asset Management segment, goodwill impairment within insurance and certain legal expenses." Outlook Management expects the Yieldstreet acquisition to be completed in late Q2 or Q3 2026, with the deal projected to drive "material AUM growth in one of our managed funds and thus increase FRE" (Goldthorpe). Goldthorpe indicated, "We expect the transaction to close in late Q2 or Q3 2...

Piyaphorn Promnonsri/E+ via Getty Images Verastem Overview The last time I spoke about Verastem ( VSTM ) it was with a Seeking Alpha article entitled " Verastem: Downgrading To Buy Based On RAMP-203 Setback In Targeting KRAS G12C NSCLC ." With respect to this article, I noted that it had a setback in being able to further advance its phase 1/2 RAMP-203 study targeting G12C KRAS mutant non-small cell lung cancer [NSCLC] patients. That was the bad news; however, the company pivoted over to developing its oral KRAS G12D ON/OFF inhibitor for the treatment of patients with solid tumors in an ongoing phase 1/2 VS-7375-101 study. The dose escalation portion of this drug, VS-7375, continues on at 1200 mg QD [once daily], and the combination portion of 600 mg with cetuximab presses on as well. However, the important update for this program is that it received guidance from the FDA to initiate disease-specific registration-directed phase 2 trials targeting patients with KRAS G12D mutated 2nd-line pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma [PDAC], 2nd-line/3rd-line non-small cell lung cancer [NSCLC], and 2nd-line colorectal cancer [CRC] in combination with cetuximab. I had placed a "Buy" rating on this stock, and I'm going to stick to this rating because of its ability to initiate such registration-directed phase 2 studies for its VS-7375 candidate. Not only that, but this candidate, known as GFH375, was evaluated in a phase 1/2 monotherapy study in China treating patients with KRAS G12D mutant advanced PDAC. These patients who took the recommended phase 2 dose [RP2D] of 600 mg QD achieved an overall response rate [ORR] of 41% . The beauty of GenFleet is that it already announced that it had initiated a phase 3 registration study of GFH375 for the targeting of pretreated KRAS G12D-mutated metastatic pancreatic cancer patients in China. With all this being said, Verastem is going to release data from its study of VS-7375 treating KRAS G12D mutant solid tumor patients in the 1st half of 2...

Iran no longer has the capacity to enrich uranium or make ballistic missiles after 20 days of US-Israeli air attacks, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a news conference on Thursday. “We are winning, and Iran is being decimated,” Netanyahu said, noting that Iran’s missile and drone arsenal is being massively degraded and will be destroyed. “What we’re destroying now are the factories that produce the components to make these missiles and to make the nuclear weapons that they’re trying to produce,” Netanyahu said. Advertisement Netanyahu did not provide evidence for his claim that Iran no longer had the capacity to enrich uranium. Iran’s nuclear programme was the focus of mediated talks that ultimately collapsed with the US and Israel launching an air attack on Iran on February 28. Iran has fired missiles back at Israel and other Gulf countries while also limiting tankers from using the Strait of Hormuz. 00:52 Iran vows retaliation for death of country’s security chief Ali Larijani Iran vows retaliation for death of country’s security chief Ali Larijani Despite the nearly three-week war, it was still too soon to tell whether Iranians will take to the streets to try to overthrow their government, Netanyahu said.

Amazon ( AMZN ) founder Jeff Bezos is in the process of raising $100B for a new fund intended to buy up manufacturing and industrial businesses and then upgrade them with artificial intelligence tools, according to The Wall Street Journal . The fund was described as a "manufacturing transformation vehicle," and it intends to buy companies involved in chipmaking, defense, and aerospace, the report said. Bezos has recently traveled to the Middle East and Singapore in his fundraising efforts, according to people familiar with the situation. Late last year, Bezos created an AI startup called Project Prometheus , in which he will serve as co-chief executive. The company is focusing on AI, which will help in engineering and manufacturing in several fields, including computers, aerospace, and automobiles. It started with $6.2B in funding, partly from Bezos, making it one of the most well-financed early-stage start-ups in the world. It also marked Bezos' first major management role since he retired as Amazon's CEO in 2021. Bezos' co-founder and co-chief executive is Vik Bajaj, a physicist and chemist who worked with Google's ( GOOG ) ( GOOGL ) co-founder Sergey Brin at Google's X, a research initiative often called “The Moonshot Factory,” according to the report. Project Prometheus is among various companies focused on applying AI to physical tasks, including robotics, drug design, and scientific discovery. Bezos has also invested in Physical Intelligence, a start-up applying AI to robots. Theories range from obvious mismatches to Premier League clubs not being able to defend from open play There were 68 goals in the last 16 of the Champions League, which is not only a lot but goes against the trend of the previous four seasons. What’s going on? Has football suddenly become more attacking again? This surely can’t all be down to Premier League sides struggling to defend against teams who don’t just rely on corners but actually attack from open play, can it? An average of 4.25 goals a game is highly unusual, particularly given the recent context. Before 2008-09 there was only one season when the knockout phase of the Champions League yielded more than three goals a game; between 2008-09 and 2019-20 there was only one season when goals per game dipped below three. There then followed four campaigns in which the average did not climb above 2.72 (and in 2022-23, it was as low as 2.34), before bouncing back to 3.29 last season (including the playoff round). The playoff round this season produced 3.94 goals per game – and there were no Premier League teams involved; this is not purely an English issue. Continue reading...

Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) and Moderna (NASDAQ: MRNA) were both leaders in the coronavirus vaccine market. However, as sales of these products have declined significantly in recent years -- due to the pandemic receding and more stringent regulatory oversight regarding who is eligible for the vaccine -- both companies have delivered unimpressive financial results. Pfizer and Moderna are diligently working to launch new products and turn things around. And if their strategies pan out, they could produce strong returns from here on out. But which one has more upside? Image source: Getty Images. Pfizer is by far the larger and better-established drugmaker. With a market cap of $156 billion, the pharmaceutical leader boasts a deep product portfolio across several therapeutic areas. Even with a slowdown in covid-related sales, Pfizer generates over $60 billion in annual revenue. It also has a deep pipeline that should make meaningful progress this year and the next, even as the company encounters patent cliffs in the coming years, including that of its anticoagulant, Eliquis. Even though pipeline and regulatory progress could jolt the stock, larger drugmakers are less likely to experience significant price swings amid ongoing clinical developments. That's why Moderna may have more upside. Continue reading

Muslim leaders have condemned Nigel Farage’s call to ban public prayer by Muslims in the UK as bigoted and warned of a “growing tide of hate” after the Conservative leader, Kemi Badenoch, questioned whether the events fitted “within the norms of British culture”. Farage was speaking at the launch of Reform UK’s manifesto for the forthcoming Scottish parliament elections when he made the remarks. He described as “a wake up call and a warning to everybody” an event in Trafalgar Square earlier this week where hundreds of Muslims and people of other faiths prayed together, before the celebration of Eid. He said the event, organised by the Ramadan Tent Project and attended by Sadiq Khan, London’s mayor, was “an open, deliberate, wilful attempt, not at the private observance of a different religion, but the attempt to overtake, intimidate and dominate our way of life”. The event has happened in the historic square in central London five times before without incident or previous controversy. Asked by a reporter if he would like to see such events banned in future, he replied: “We wouldn’t want to stop individuals praying but mass prayer is banned in many Muslim countries in the Middle East itself. So, yes, we have to stop this kind of mass demonstration, provocative demonstration, in historic British sites.” Such restrictions vary from country to country, and could be related to political or religious tensions or public safety. The former first minister and SNP MSP Humza Yousaf said: “Nigel Farage seems to have no issues with Christian prayer, Hannukah, Vaisakhi or Diwali all being celebrated in Trafalgar Square. He only has a problem with Muslims praying. There is a word for that, bigotry.” Yousaf, the UK’s first Muslim first minister, added: “While I have come to expect nothing less from a charlatan like Nigel Farage, I am angry and disappointed that such rhetoric has been mainstreamed from the likes of Nick Timothy MP, a member of His Majesty’s opposition.” Badenoch bac...

The sell-off continued today, with the stock plunging 12% in early Thursday morning trading to a low of $16.25 per share, a level it last saw in December 2025. Hecla is the largest silver producer in the U.S. and Canada, with annual production that outpaces its nearest rival by nearly 90%. The sheer size of its operations makes Hecla highly sensitive to silver prices, and that pretty much explains why the stock is in a free fall despite delivering record numbers in 2025. The big silver fall Silver plummeted by more than 10% on March 19 to below $67 per ounce, levels last seen in December 2025. That's a sharp reversal from the near-$115 levels silver was trading at just a few weeks ago. The Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged at its meeting on Wednesday amid stubborn inflation and surging oil and gas prices. Brent crude oil jumped 7% early Thursday to over $114 per barrel on supply disruptions from the Middle East. If you like chatting with us, check out the Odd Lots Discord , where you can hang out and talk with us and with other listeners 24/7. Here’s what Tracy’s thinking about... Ever since Covid, I’ve really come to appreciate two things. One is that the physical still matters. To an extent, we’re all still prisoners of geography (which is a great book , by the way) and hydrocarbons. The second, related thing is that time really matters. What we’re experiencing now with the Iran War is a massive mismatch of timelines. It takes minutes to destroy energy infrastructure, and months — if not years — to rebuild it. That became pretty clear today, after QatarEnergy’s CEO said it will take three to five years to repair the LNG export capacity damaged by Iranian missile strikes overnight (in response to an earlier Israeli bombing Iranian energy assets in the South Pars). So timeframes matter a lot right now. Each successive day of the Iran conflict now generates months of impact on the global economy. And the longer it takes the world to adapt to a new reality of reduced Gulf oil flows, the longer and deeper the pain. Speaking of which, there is still an idea out there that the US is insulated from energy shocks. There’s some truth to this, but for one thing, most Americans are not in the energy business, and so an oil shock mostly shows up in the form of higher gasoline prices. And while we do have a strategic petroleum reserve, actually releasing barrels from it takes longer than you might think. So tapping the SPR is arguably more valuable as a signal to the market than an instant relief valve for prices....

This article first appeared on GuruFocus. Apple (AAPL, Financials) reported strong smartphone sales in China to start 2026, despite an industry slowdown. Counterpoint Research showed 23% sales increase in the first nine weeks of the year, while China's smartphone market decreased 4%.In a low-demand market, the performance is significant. Apple's outperformance is highlighted by government subsidies that failed to restore sales trends earlier this year.E-commerce discounts and governmental subsidies on the base iPhone 17 caused the hikes. These qualities helped Apple attract price-sensitive customers when competitors boosted pricing.Scale of Apple's supply chain also matters. Unlike competitors, the company has absorbed certain memory chip price increases. Apple has kept prices the same while Oppo and Vivo have raised several models. This pricing stability may help Apple gain market share, especially when competitors test customer willingness to pay despite cost limits. Huawei may benefit from local component procurement in lower-priced areas.Due to the mid-year 618 shopping festival, the Chinese smartphone sector may recover in spring. Whether Apple can retain momentum when competitive pricing and demand alter will be its next trigger.
The war in the Middle East is reshaping the world’s energy supply chains, but perhaps nowhere else the change may be as dramatic as on LNG markets. The U.S., the world’s top LNG exporter, could step into the breach.
