Worawith Ounpeng/iStock via Getty Images Shares of Mobia Medical ( MOBI ) have gone public as the offering has been anything but a success, with shares down over a fifth on the first day of trading. Investors in this medical device business likely applaud the sales momentum but arguably fear the large and continued growing losses being reported. These losses make me cautious here, as I am not yet willing to lean in, although I am keen to keep a close eye on the shares from here. I am looking for insights into continued commercial growth traction but, more importantly, operating leverage to arrive. This makes me curious but cautious at the same time, as the ambiguity prevents me from getting involved right here. I am pleased to pick up coverage post-IPO, similar to ideas we cover at Value in Corporate Events . Redefining Stroke Recovery The paragraph header is the mission of Mobia Medical, originally founded in 2007, aiming to provide such a recovery option for patients with life-altering motor impairments. The company aims to do this with its Vivistim Paired Vagus Nerve Stimulation systems, also known as Paired VNS, an FDA-approved solution for chronic ischemic stroke survivors with moderate to upper extremity impairments. While advancements in reducing mortality from stroke have been made, this has left more patients with stroke recovery if they make it, exactly the target of the business here. This is done with the Paired VNS, which includes an implantable pulse generator to deliver stimulation to vagus nerves when activated; this being, furthermore, independent of how long ago a stroke has taken place. Since the commercial launch in 2023, the solution has been applied to thousands of situations, including some 700 procedures in 2025. With some 800,000 strokes taking place every year in the US alone and some 10 million stroke patients out there, the target market, unfortunately, is massive. Many of these suffer from chronic impairments, relating to visual, physica...

Monty Rakusen/Cultura via Getty Images Carpenter ( CRS ) has quietly put up a stellar YTD return of 26.5%, which builds upon years of outperformance versus the industrial sector and the broader market. While the company clearly continues to gain market share and has grown margins substantially, especially in the last few quarters, there is relatively little that the market is missing with this name, and I believe current investors should stay put. The stock is not attractive on a valuation basis for prospective investors and they should wait for a broader pullback to get involved. Business Profile Carpenter is a producer and distributor of premium specialty alloys. These include titanium alloys, powder metals, stainless steels, alloy steels, and tool steels. The company serves end markets in the aerospace and defense industry, as well as medical, energy, transportation, industrial, and consumer. The company has a storied history, having been founded back in 1889. By end market, the company's primary exposure is to aerospace & defense at 62% of sales and about $1.8 billion in revenue in 2025. This is followed by industrial and medical, both at 12% of sales, while energy comprises 7%, transportation is 4%, and distribution is the balance at 3%. To provide some more tangible context, these alloys are used in everything from things like jet engines to landing gears to semiconductor systems to even medical sensors and devices. The company starts by processing raw materials. These raw materials include nickel, cobalt, titanium, manganese, chromium, molybdenum, iron scrap, and other metal alloys. After working through these raw inputs through different melting, hot forming, and cold working facilities, the company is able to produce final products in the form of billets, bars, rods, wires, and narrow strips. There is also a whole spectrum of sizes and finishes. From there, the company distributes the products from its production plants to independent distributors. We can t...

piyaset/iStock via Getty Images Nutrien ( NTR ) is the world's largest crop nutrient producer, trading at a significant discount to its operational performance. The market is mispricing the stock by extrapolating Europe's sustainability narrative globally while ignoring the structural fertilizer demand growth playing out across emerging markets. At current levels, I rate NTR a Buy . Introduction When I started working in Colombian agriculture in the 1990s, synthetic fertilizers were already everywhere - nitrogen, potassium, sulphates - across palm oil, maize, rice, banana, and commercial fruit crops, including Tommy Atkins mangoes and citrus. What surprised me was not how much they were used. It was how loudly everyone was talking about replacing them. Farmers, agronomists, and government extension programs were all discussing organic alternatives. A gradual shift seemed plausible. It never happened. Not at scale. The economics made sure of that. I now live in Finland . I follow European agricultural policy debates from close range. The conversation here is different from what I knew in the Llanos and Andean foothills. Policymakers from Brussels to Helsinki are pushing hard toward reduced synthetic inputs, emission cuts, and organic certification targets. It is a serious policy direction. Investors have taken notice - and I believe it is creating a mispricing opportunity in Nutrien. Here is what the sustainability narrative misses: Europe's push away from synthetic fertilizers does not reduce global demand for them. It reorganizes it. Large-scale commercial producers in Brazil, Colombia, Southeast Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa are moving in exactly the opposite direction. Smallholder operations are becoming more professional. Access to credit and market infrastructure is improving. Synthetic fertilizer consumption in these regions is growing - not declining. The farmers I worked with understood the yield arithmetic precisely. Organic alternatives could not produce th...
