Andrii Yalanskyi/iStock via Getty Images Investment Thesis Nebius Group ( NBIS ) is scheduled to report its Q1 earnings report on Wednesday this week before markets open. The Dutch neocloud company has quickly become a force to be reckoned with in the AI cloud industry after securing large deals from major hyperscalers, as explained in my prior coverage . While markets will appreciate upward revisions to its $7-9B CY26 ARR outlook, I believe investors will deeply scrutinize the $18B capex estimate the company plans to deploy this year. Two reasons for that. First , markets will be looking for real proof of execution on that $18B capex number in Q1. Second , markets will be scrutinizing the amount of capital Nebius has locked in to finance its $18B capex target. This is of utmost importance if Nebius has to build & deliver GPU capacity so that it can recognize revenue faster from those billion-dollar deals it signed over the past few months. Heading into earnings, I remain confident about Nebius' ability to deliver strong all-around performance in the Q1 earnings and am reiterating my bullish view ahead of the Q1 ER this week. 3C Execution Time: Capex vs. Capacity vs. Capital It's not just topline growth or backlog that matters anymore for NeoClouds and other cloud providers. CoreWeave ( CRWV ), the largest neocloud in the market, reported a Q1 ER last week that showed how judicious markets are getting about the neocloud industry's track record. While CoreWeave reported "the strongest bookings quarter" in the company's history of ~$100B, a sluggish Q2 guide, sliding profitability, and burgeoning debt overshadowed the company's record backlog. Management's talk about stacking up their performance for later, in the "remainder of the year," evoked fears about execution risks from last year. While I do expect Nebius to generally deliver a strong Q1 earnings print this week, I also expect markets to be scrutinizing various aspects of Nebius management's execution in Q1. L...

Odds that traffic through the Strait of Hormuz returns to normal in the near term continued to fall on Polymarket, reflecting growing skepticism among traders that disruptions will ease quickly. President Donald Trump called Iran’s latest proposal “totally unacceptable.” Iran’s proposal reportedly emphasized Iranian sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz while calling on the U.S. to end its naval blockade, guarantee no further attacks, lift sanctions, and end a U.S. ban on Iranian oil sales. The Strait of Hormuz remains mostly closed. A Polymarket contract tracking whether traffic would normalize by the end of May showed implied odds at 14% on Sunday, down 23 percentage points from earlier levels this month. The contract had traded near 70% in mid-April before steadily declining through May. Longer-dated expectations also weakened. Traders assigned a 33% probability that traffic would return to normal before July 1, while odds for normalization before Sept. 1 stood at 50%. Even by Jan. 1, 2027, the market implied only a 76% chance of conditions fully stabilizing. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints, with shipping markets closely watching for signs of de-escalation in the region. UBS strategist Paul Donovan said uncertainty remained unusually high because the reopening of the waterway ultimately depended on Tehran’s decisions. “The basic problem for markets remains—reopening the Strait of Hormuz depends on Iran,” Donovan said. He added that conflicting statements from Washington and regional actors left investors without a reliable framework for judging timelines accurately. Barrick Mining Corp. , the world’s third-largest gold producer, said its board has authorized the repurchase of as much as $3 billion of its shares. “Following solid execution and strong free cash flow, this authorization is intended to return cash to shareholders at a time when Barrick sees exceptional value in its own shares, particularly in anticipation of the planned IPO of North American Barrick,” the company said Monday in a statement. Last month, Barrick announced plans to list its North American operations in New York and reaffirmed it’s on track to complete the initial public offering by year end. The gold miner is pursuing the spinoff as it seeks a reset after a string of operational setbacks and a management shakeup that included September’s sudden departure of longtime chief Mark Bristow .

Wise Group Plc is making its trading debut in the US with a Nasdaq listing as the financial technology firm tries to take advantage of a larger stock market and its legions of investors. The company’s shares will trade under the ticker WSE , according to regulatory filings, marking the culmination of a yearslong plan to open up to more investors. Wise will also relist its shares on the London Stock Exchange for its secondary listing. For Wise Chief Executive Officer Kristo Kaarmann , the dual listing is designed to increase liquidity and allow for extended trading hours. It also comes as the firm is looking to the US to expand its business, through which users can hold, move and spend money in as many as 40 currencies abroad using the mid-market rate. “We can start trading in both London in the morning and New York in the afternoon, so that’s part of the story,” Kaarmann said in an interview ahead of the listing. “The other is we are meeting new sets of US shareholders and US analysts and it’s an opportunity for us to tell our story again.” Kaarmann said Wise, which counts billionaire Peter Thiel , Silicon Valley’s Andreessen Horowitz and UK-based Baillie Gifford among its early investors, has had demand from large institutions to own Wise shares on the London Stock Exchange. However, they haven’t been able to due to a lack of liquidity, according to Kaarmann. While liquidity has increased since Wise went public five years ago, “it’s nowhere near what our US peers are trading at,” said Kaarmann, who will be celebrating with his customers and longtime shareholders at a party in New York’s Times Square. The company said in a statement Monday that net revenue rose 19% year-over-year to $2.5 billion for the year ended March 31, according to preliminary earnings estimates. Customer holdings reached $39 billion, up 40% from the year prior. The Nasdaq listing also allows Wise to keep its dual-class shares, which are more common in the US than the UK. That system gives Kaar...
