Two major protests are taking place on Saturday in London, with the Metropolitan Police warning it may be one of its busiest days in recent years. Tens of thousands of people are expected to march for Unite the Kingdom, an event arranged by far-right activist Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, better known as Tommy Robinson, and the annual pro-Palestine Nakba Day march. London’s Metropolitan Police is drafting more than 4,000 officers to police the two events, a scale of operation it said was “unprecedented...

Cannes film festival: Travolta directs and narrates this 60-minute adaptation of his own short story about a boy who dreams of being a pilot John Travolta’s directorial debut turns out to be a rather charmingly quirky and distinctively peculiar novella-sized bedtime story. It is an hour-long novelty feature commissioned by Apple TV, with lovingly detailed but innocent Mad Men 60s period production design, and narrated throughout by Travolta itself. That’s an indulgence you have to get used to – but if Alec Baldwin was doing it, you might almost think this was a Wes Anderson movie. It is in fact based on Travolta’s own children’s book about his love of planes: an autobiographical tale about Jeff, an eight-year-old boy, weirdly resembling the kid in the spoof classic Airplane!, who gets to overhear some pretty ripe adult conversation in a plane cockpit. A small European Central Bank interest-rate increase could temper inflation without causing economic damage, Governing Council member Yannis Stournaras told Liberal.gr. “A significant but temporary excess over the inflation target would mean a measured adjustment of monetary policy in a more restrictive direction in the near future, in order to limit the intensity of second-round effects, without disproportionately affecting economic activity,” the Greek central bank was cited as saying . Markets and economists are betting on a quarter-point hike at the ECB’s June meeting, with several policymakers indicating they would back such a step. Still, some have been less direct, instead holding out for more incoming economic data. “The duration and intensity of the energy shock, as well as the mechanisms through which it is transmitted to the real economy, will also determine our response,” Stournaras said. “We will continue to closely assess all available data and remain ready to set policy rates at levels consistent with maintaining price stability over the medium term.” The typically dovish central banker highlighted that there “currently is no strong evidence” of second-round effects, but warned of heightened uncertainty. “Damage to energy infrastructure in the Gulf could prolong inflationary pressures over the medium term,” he said. “Longer delivery times and rising input costs suggest that supply chains are coming under increasing pressure.” ECB’s Vujcic Says June Rate Increase Depends on Incoming Data ECB to Hike If Oil Deanchors CPI Expectations, Kazaks Says Why the ECB’s June Interest-Rate Hike Is Becoming Less Certain

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping pose for photos before their meeting in Beijing, China September 2, 2025. Sergey Bobylev | Via Reuters Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Beijing from May 19-20th, Moscow and Beijing said on Saturday. The meeting will take place less than a week after U.S. President Donald Trump's meeting with Xi in Beijing, the second time the leaders of the two largest economies have met in less than a year. "The Russian President's visit is timed to coincide with the 25 th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness and Friendly Cooperation, which serves as the basis for interstate relations," Putin's office said in a statement . The two leaders "will discuss current bilateral matters, ways to further strengthen the comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation between the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China, and exchange views on key international and regional matters," the Kremlin said. China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the upcoming meeting in a one-line post on X. Russia is one of the world's biggest oil producers, while China is among the largest buyers of fossil fuels. Elon Musk said he is not selling any SpaceX shares, with the company reported to be preparing to file publicly for its long-awaited IPO as soon as next week. “I’m not selling any shares,” Musk wrote on X in response to a user post that suggested he do so after a lockup period. The rocket, satellite and artificial intelligence company could file publicly for its IPO as soon as Wednesday , according to people familiar with the matter. It has filed confidentially and is seeking to raise as much as $75 billion at a valuation of more than $2 trillion, which would be the largest IPO of all time. SpaceX shareholders received a notification on Friday that the company is executing a 5-for-1 stock split, a move that will reduce the price investors will pay for each share offered in the impending IPO. The current fair market value per share has been adjusted to about $105.32 from $526.59 as a result of the split, according to people familiar with the matter. The company aims to kick off formal marketing for the stock sale as soon as June 4, price its IPO as early as June 11 and list on June 12, Bloomberg reported earlier.

Kira-Yan/iStock Editorial via Getty Images In mid February, I reiterated my strong buy rating on Meta Platforms, Inc. ( META ) and stated that it was a bargain Mag 7 stock. My bullishness was based on solid user metrics, impressive ad impression stats, and a forward P/E that reflected undervaluation. As shown below, the stock has experienced mild losses even after the recent rebound and so Meta hasn't acted as strong as I envisioned. The social media giant reported their latest results on the penultimate day of April and recently there hasn't been a shortage of new developments. Therefore, I have decided to provide an update for readers today. Seeking Alpha Below, it is shown that Q1 was another robust quarter for Meta both in terms of their user/ad stats and their financial performance even though Reality Labs continues to be a drag on their business. Looking forward, guidance was a little soft for Q2, but that isn't a major concern given how the spending environment is shaping up. Furthermore, while there are certainly legal risks for the near term, the long-term outlook seems to be strengthening with the company pushing into physical AI and robotics. With the forward P/E showing that Meta is still a bargain Mag 7 stock, I have decided to reiterate my strong buy rating. User Stats Continue To Be Impressive Meta Q1 Presentation For the first time in recent memory, Meta saw their family daily active people drop QoQ. As you can see above , there was a decline from 3.58 billion to 3.56 billion. However, they stated that this was due to internet disruption in Iran and restricted WhatsApp access in Russia and so therefore the QoQ softness is not a major concern right now. Regardless, on a YoY basis, DAP grew by about 4% and so their platform continues to attract users successfully. Another encouraging sign would be the fact that family average revenue per person grew by 27% YoY. This growth rate far outpaces the Q4 growth rate as a sign that Meta is monetizing their use...
