(RTTNews) - SalMar ASA (SALRF, SALM.OL), a Norwegian salmon farmer, reported Wednesday a profit in its first quarter, compared to prior year's loss, with higher operating revenues. According to the firm, higher volume, better quality of harvested fish and lower cost level in the value chain positively affected the financial results. Looking ahead, the company expects higher volume in the second quarter compared to the same period last year. Further, volume guidance for the group in fiscal 2026 increased with 12,000 tons to 330,000 tons due to strong biological performance in Norway. In the quarter, profit attributable to shareholders was 569 million Norwegian kroner, compared to loss of 355 million kroner a year ago. Earnings per share were 4.2 kroner, compared to loss of 2.7 kroner last year. Operating profit was 858 million kroner, compared to prior year's loss of 299 million kroner. Operational EBIT the Group was 1.51 billion kroner, higher than 798 million kroner last year. Total operating revenues grew to 6.50 billion kroner from 5.19 billion kroner a year ago. In the first quarter 2026, SalMar Group harvested 60,300 tons of salmon in total, up from 42,700 tons in the first quarter 2025. So far, the biggest headlines have been about large companies like Meta ( META ) and Oracle ( ORCL ) laying off double-digit percentages of their staff to justify AI capex spending, but the market has yet to truly reward smaller companies that are getting leaner as well. BILL Holdings ( BILL ), the spend management software platform, has been crushed over the past few years for a number of reasons: declining interest rates that hurt its float revenue, its exposure to SMB, which makes it more likely to decelerate in a weaker macro, and its status as a software product that makes it prone to the "SaaSpocalypse." Shares are down ~20% this year, which gives the stock quite attractive entry points. Data by YCharts I last wrote a "Buy" article on BILL in February, when the stock was trading at ~$40 per share. Since then, the stock has continued to turn in very disappointing performance, not rallying as sharply as the rest of the stock market. That said, actual results are much better than feared; as such, this is a classic opportunity to buy an unloved business at a great price. I reiterate my "Buy" rating here. As is the case with evaluating any software investment in 2026, we have to ask a very critical question upfront: C an the company withstand the AI revolution? BILL's spend automation platform is a company that investors have essentially already earmarked for obsolescence, as judged by the stock’s bargain basement valuation multiples. We do acknowledge that there is heightened competitive risk here.
