The broad stock market was soaring today in response to news of a two-week ceasefire with Iran that includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) was among the winners, benefiting from a risk-on appetite in response to the detente. Though Alphabet doesn't have direct exposure to Iran or even high oil prices, it is one of the companies most exposed to the health of the global economy because of its size and focus on digital advertising. As of 11:31 a.m. ET, the stock was up 3.7%, outpacing the Nasdaq Composite's gain of 2.6%. Continue reading

aydinmutlu/iStock via Getty Images Shares of a broad swath of U.S. industrial companies surged to 52-week highs on Wednesday, as markets rallied following a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, easing geopolitical tensions that had weighed on investor sentiment. The gains were particularly pronounced among companies tied to infrastructure, electrification and defense-adjacent end markets, highlighting how investors are rotating into businesses with both cyclical upside and long-term structural demand drivers. Among the notable movers hitting fresh highs were Babcock & Wilcox ( BW ), BWX Technologies ( BWXT ), Comfort Systems USA ( FIX ), Curtiss-Wright ( CW ), ESCO Technologies ( ESE ), ITT Inc. ( ITT ), MasTec ( MTZ ), Modine Manufacturing ( MOD ), MYR Group ( MYRG ), Powell Industries ( POWL ), Preformed Line Products (PLP), Spire Global ( SPIR ), Vertiv Holdings ( VRT ) and Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies ( WAB ). Market rally with a clear tilt The ceasefire catalyst helped drive a broad risk-on move, but the concentration of new highs within this group points to a more targeted theme. Many of these companies sit at the intersection of three powerful trends: the buildout of AI-driven data centers, electrification of the grid and increased geopolitical focus on domestic infrastructure and defense resilience. Investors appear to be rewarding firms with exposure to large-scale capital spending cycles that are already underway and, in many cases, accelerating. AI infrastructure emerges as a unifying thread A key common denominator is exposure to the physical infrastructure behind artificial intelligence. Companies such as Vertiv, Modine, Comfort Systems and Powell Industries provide cooling systems, power management and electrical equipment essential for hyperscale data centers. As major technology companies race to expand capacity for AI workloads, demand for these systems has surged, driving strong revenue growth, expanding margins and record...

jetcityimage/iStock Editorial via Getty Images What is next for Tesla after a disappointing Q1 2026 report? Tesla, Inc. ( TSLA ) has faced a challenging start to 2026, with shares falling approximately 21.5% year to date as of early April. The selloff was accelerated by a disappointing first-quarter production and delivery report, which revealed a significant inventory build of 50,363 vehicles and a dramatic 38.9% miss in energy storage expectations. Still, while the immediate reaction to the quarterly figures has been negative, analysts remain divided on whether the current valuation represents a buying opportunity or a warning sign of further declines. What Do Seeking Alpha Analysts Say About Tesla’s Future? Bulls pointed to the long-term “optionality” inherent in Tesla’s non-automotive ventures, specifically highlighting progress in Full Self-Driving (FSD), the Robotaxi initiative, and the Optimus robot. They also noted pockets of international growth, such as untapped demand catalysts in South Korea, and suggested that the risk-reward ratio is becoming favorable as the stock becomes “cheap” relative to its future potential in AI and energy. Bears, however, highlighted structural issues in the core automotive business, including narrowing competitive moats and intensifying pressure from rivals like BYD ( BYDDF ). They pointed to the massive discrepancy between production and deliveries, leading to a concerning rise in inventory, and argued that a trailing P/E ratio of over 300x is unjustifiable given the current margin compression and brand deterioration. Here’s a breakdown of what some analysts had to say: The Techie, Seeking Alpha Analyst , Rating: Buy: “Tesla stock is experiencing a sharp selloff, down 21.5% YTD, as the broader market pulls back on geopolitical uncertainty. I’m upgrading Tesla to a cautious Buy at current levels and think the risk-reward is favorable if the geopolitical and tariff headwinds ease.” - Tesla Stock: It’s Cheap Again (Rating Upgrad...

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declared today a “historic and overwhelming” victory over Iran, but there was little evidence of that in the Strait of Hormuz, the key waterway where hundreds of ship remain stuck . Hegseth spoke a day after President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire , in a dramatic climb-down from pledges to annihilate Iran unless US conditions were met. Less than 24 hours later, it wasn’t clear whether the truce had even taken effect — with reports of ongoing hostilities rife across the Persian Gulf and Pakistan, which had brokered the agreement , warning against violations that threaten to undermine diplomacy. The accord nonetheless triggered a massive market relief rally , even if there were plenty of signs it may not hold. Iran has already signaled it would withdraw from the ceasefire if attacks against Lebanon continued, Tasnim reported, citing a personal familiar. While US rationales for the war shifted since the conflict began, Hegseth said the US had accomplished its war aims, including destroying Iranian ballistic missile capabilities, sinking the country’s navy that menaced merchant vessels in the region and bombing the country’s defense industrial base. To the US’s adversaries and allies though, the takeaway has been starkly different . Read our analysis on how Trump’s Iran war reinforced views that the administration is squandering American strengths and bolstering the likes of China and Russia. — Zoltan Simon What You Need to Know Today Trump isn’t the only one who’s coming in for criticism. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the US president’s partner in the bombing campaign of Iran, is facing opprobrium from across the political spectrum for endorsing a cease-fire with an emboldened regime in Tehran, one that’s seen as continuing to pose a threat to Israel’s security. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, meanwhile, is facing criticism from some European allies for what’s seen as a deferential approach to Trump. Despi...

NoDerog/iStock Unreleased via Getty Images Introduction B&G Foods, Inc. ( BGS ) is down over 80% over the past half a decade, as the company's business model was hit significantly by the high-rate environment, and with cheap money now gone, they were forced into a major dividend cut back in 2022 with fear of a new one looming once again alongside inflation, tariff uncertainty, and margin pressure. However, the company is undergoing a significant transformation, aiming at reducing their size and leverage through significant portfolio adjustments, while the current valuation already accounts for very significant levels of risk. Portfolio Turnaround Advances B&G Foods IR B&G Foods reported an expectably weak 2025, marked by a significant ~$9.5 million hit from tariffs, cost pressures, significant impairment charges due to their ongoing portfolio transformation, which resulted in a drop in net sales, EPS, and virtually everything else. Meanwhile, the company also advanced on their debt repayment goals, with net interest expenses decreasing by 5% (~$7.8 million) to $149.6 million throughout the year. B&G Foods IR The free cash flow reached $70.75 million in 2025, a steep decline from the $103.65 million in 2024 and $222.07 million in 2023 as a result of the weakness mentioned above combined with working capital changes and a normalization of artificial inflation in 2023 from the ~$137.8 million non-cash loss on sales of assets, while the drop from 2024 to 2025 can be explained by tariffs, higher CAPEX and downsizing overall. Note however that this also includes the $11.5 million deposit for their acquisitions, meaning that the normalized FCF would be closer to $82.25 million. For FY26, BGS expects net sales to drop to $1.655 billion to $1.695 billion, with Adj. EBITDA relatively flat in the range of $265 million to $275 million and $0.55 to $0.65 in Adj. Diluted EPS. The company’s portfolio transformation continues to advance, recently announcing the ~$110 million acquis...

imaginima/E+ via Getty Images Iran signaled Wednesday it may withdraw from the current ceasefire agreement if Israel continues its attacks on Lebanon, according to a source speaking to Tasnim news agency, which is believed to have ties to Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, the Associated Press reported. The source indicated that Iran is actively reviewing the possibility of exiting the fragile ceasefire framework, emphasizing that a halt to fighting on all fronts—including against Lebanon’s Hezbollah—had been agreed upon by the U.S. as part of a two-week truce proposal. According to the source, Israel has carried out “clear violations of the ceasefire” with attacks on Lebanon since this morning. In response, Iran’s armed forces are reportedly identifying potential targets. In a pointed warning, the Tasnim source stated that if the U.S. cannot restrain its “rabid dog” in the region, Iran would “exceptionally help it do so—by force.” Oil tankers stopped passing through the strait because of Israeli attacks on Lebanon, Iran’s Fars news agency reported. Trump has said that reopening the strait was a condition for stopping the fighting. Earlier on Wednesday, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged all parties in the Middle East conflict to respect the agreed-upon ceasefire, warning that reported violations are undermining diplomatic efforts.
