(Bloomberg) -- Lenovo Group Ltd. shares were on track to close at their highest on Friday after the company reported strong growth in AI-related earnings that offset difficulties from rising component prices. Most Read from Bloomberg The world’s leading PC maker’s shares gained as much as 17% in Hong Kong, extending its run as the best performer on the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index this year. While grappling with a persistent memory shortage, Lenovo has managed to nurture a new growth pillar in its data center and storage business to cater to explosive AI demand. That helped ameliorate challenges facing its traditional PC business. For the fiscal year ended March, Lenovo reported profit jumped 38% while it grew revenue by 20%, beating analyst estimates with surprisingly robust numbers. Lenovo appears to be doing a better job than the likes of console maker Nintendo Co. in controlling the impact of higher memory prices, as it maintained its gross margin in the March quarter and grew sales by 27%, its fastest pace in five years. Lenovo’s artificial intelligence products and services were key to its strong performance. AI-related revenue accounted for 38% of the company’s overall sales last quarter, growing at a 84% rate, according to its statement on Friday. “Our hybrid AI vision puts us at the forefront of AI inferencing and AI democratization, so I’m fully confident that we will achieve our goal to become a $100 billion company in two years.” Chief Executive Officer Yang Yuanqing said in an interview after the earnings. Underpinning the strong growth is the AI shift from training to inferencing, Yang said. “Inferencing demand will grow even faster and even stronger,” he added. Lenovo is set to start delivery of Nvidia Corp.’s Rubin-based platforms in the second half this year and the company now boasts an AI server pipeline worth $21 billion. With its shares up more than 60% this year, Lenovo has joined the global rally in chipmakers, cloud data center operators...

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Cabinet on Thursday rejected US President Donald Trump’s claims that Taiwan “stole” the semiconductor industry, saying the country’s globally leading chip sector was built through decades of independent research and development by domestic companies. Trump again accused Taiwan of stealing the chip sector during an appearance on Fox News last week, per CNA . United Microelectronics Corporation founder Robert Tsao (曹興誠) said in a post on Wednesday that Trump’s remarks were completely wrong and urged the Cabinet to refute them. Former DPP Legislator Lin Cho-shui (林濁水) also said Thursday that Taiwan should address the issue directly if Trump and President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) speak. “Frankly, it's unbelievable that both the government and TSMC have remained silent after Trump's constant accusations of chip theft, instead only repeatedly urging people not to lose faith in the US,” Lin said. Cabinet Spokesperson Michelle Lee (李慧芝) said that Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰), Vice Premier Cheng Li-chiun (鄭麗君), and Economics Minister Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫 have repeatedly stressed since last year that Taiwan’s semiconductor industry was built through the efforts of domestic companies, CNA reported. Lee said Taiwan achieved its leading position through years of hard work and accumulated expertise, with “no stealing involved.” Lee added that Cho had previously said Taiwan’s chip industry would not have gained its global competitiveness and position if illegal means had been involved. She also noted that Cheng emphasized during tariff negotiations with the US over the past year that Taiwan’s semiconductor sector is the result of decades of development. Lee said the government would continue communicating with the international community to address misunderstandings surrounding Taiwan’s chip industry.

Tero Vesalainen/iStock via Getty Images Investment Thesis Despite offering an appealing 4.25% trailing dividend yield, the intent behind today's article is to explain why the SPDR S&P 500 High Dividend ETF ( SPYD ) is not a product I recommend holding for the long term. This position isn't new, either—I issued "sell" ratings on SPYD in October 2025 , February 2024 , and October 2023 , and after discovering the same low-quality features each time, I have no other choice but to blame the fund's overly simplistic strategy for its weak long-term total returns. Critics may argue that capital appreciation is only a secondary objective for SPYD shareholders, but it is my hope that they'll see how the three other ETFs discussed today are safer options with competitive yields and better dividend growth potential. For these reasons, a fourth straight "sell" rating on SPYD is warranted, and I look forward to explaining why in further detail below. SPYD Overview: A Simple, Low-Cost, High-Dividend ETF According to Seeking Alpha , SPYD's trailing dividend yield is 4.30%, which earns it a respectable "B+" Dividend Yield Grade. Meanwhile, its 4.99% and 1.21% 3Y and 5Y Dividend CAGRs are below the median growth rates for all ETFs, which knocks its overall grade down to "B-", but still, I think it's enough to attract the typical income investor. I can count on one hand the number of US large-cap ETFs that feature estimated dividend yields above 4% (the others being WBIY , SPHD , XUDV , and DIVY ), and since SPYD's expense ratio is so low at 0.06%, I understand why it's the go-to investment for many high-yield investors. As of May 19, 2026, SPYD has $7.30 billion in assets under management, per its quote page . Seeking Alpha Another potential reason for its appeal is its simplistic selection process. You see, SPYD tracks the S&P 500 High Dividend Index, which merely selects and equally weights the top 80 stocks by dividend yield in the S&P 500 Index each January and July. However, sim...
