Hinterhaus Productions/DigitalVision via Getty Images Based in the US, Schrödinger ( SDGR ) is one of the leading software companies in the scientific and biotechnology verticals, developing a computational platform to accelerate drug discovery and materials science. It mainly makes money through software licensing and collaborative drug discovery programs with major pharmaceutical companies. Companies like Certara ( CERT ), Simulation Plus, and Recursion Pharmaceuticals ( RXRX ) are some of the competitors in this space. Since its 2020 IPO, share performance has been underwhelming for the most part. SDGR plummeted from an all-time high of over $77 to recent lows of around $11, which is where it is more or less trading at. Sentiment has largely been negative, as SDGR is down almost -40% over the past year alone, driven mostly by the -36% decline in share prices YTD alone. I initiated my coverage on SDGR with a neutral rating. My 1-year price target of $10.6 per share projects a -6% decline YoY. My analysis found that SDGR remains hard to fairly value due to the transition in its software business model, which affects its revenue growth, suggesting that it is more prudent to stay on the sidelines for now. Financial Reviews In my opinion, fundamentals are a bit choppy, mainly due to the major business model transition from on-premise to a hosted software delivery model. Based on my experience covering software stocks, many similar transitions could indeed present a near-term volatility since they may produce some difficulties in fairly valuing the business, as I will touch on later in the valuation section. On the flip side, though, I think it is done for the benefit of more robust and visible long-term growth. Q4 presentation In Q4 2025, for instance, underlying growth remains solid, in my view, despite the reported Q4 top-line numbers appearing weak on the software side. SDGR saw a -13% quarterly revenue decline YoY in the software business due to revenue recognitio...
