Santiago/Getty Images News Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday urged all parties in the Middle East conflict to respect the agreed-upon ceasefire, warning that reported violations are undermining diplomatic efforts. “Violations of ceasefire have been reported at few places across the conflict zone which undermine the spirit of peace process,” Sharif wrote on X. “I earnestly and sincerely urge all parties to exercise restraint and respect the ceasefire for two weeks, as agreed upon, so that diplomacy can take a lead role towards peaceful settlement of the conflict.” His post comes after an announcement by President Donald Trump that the U.S. and Iran had reached a two-week ceasefire agreement. The pause in hostilities is expected to lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route that has been closed since late February, when U.S. and Israeli forces launched operations against Iran. Despite the ceasefire, military leaders signaled that tensions remain unresolved. Dan Caine welcomed the pause in fighting but emphasized that U.S. forces are maintaining readiness, noting the agreement is temporary rather than a permanent settlement. Meanwhile, the Associated Press reported that Iran and Gulf Arab countries reported new attacks hours after Trump's announcement, although it was unclear whether the strikes would scuttle the deal.
