David Gyung/iStock via Getty Images Introduction The Series F Preferred shares issued by Banc of California ( BANC ) are one of my highest conviction ideas for fixed income investors with an investment horizon of less than two years. Given the terms of this series of preferred stock, I'm very confident the bank will retire this series in September 2027, allowing for a total return of almost 9% in a 15-month time frame. There are no guarantees in life, but in this article I will explain why retiring the preferred shares would increase the EPS for the common shares by in excess of $0.05 from 2028 on. Data by YCharts The financial results remain strong It goes without saying that before discussing whether or not the preferred shares are attractive, it only makes sense to have a look at the financial performance of the bank itself. After all, even though preferred equity is senior to common equity, it still is just equity and ranked pretty low on the capital structure. In the first quarter of this year, we did see a pretty stable total interest income, while the total amount of interest expenses decreased by in excess of 10%. This ultimately resulted in an increase of the net interest income by approximately 8%. As the income statement below shows, that's a very nice increase on a year-on-year basis, but looking at the final quarter of 2025, the net interest income is pretty flat. The bank is guiding for a 3-4 bps quarterly margin expansion going forward, so we should see a small increase in the net interest income. BANC Investor Relations The bank also had to deal with a lower non-interest income, mainly due to a substantial decrease in the income related to leased equipment. After taking all things into consideration, the bank's financial results in the first quarter of the current financial year held up pretty well. After also deducting the almost $10 million in loan loss provisions, the pre-tax income came in at just under 96 million, while the net income was $72 mi...

Moscow Signs Military Partnership With Taliban In Full Circle Since CIA's Operation Cyclone Via The Cradle Russia and the Taliban-led government in Afghanistan have reached a military and technical cooperation agreement , Russian news outlet Interfax reported this week. The deal was concluded during the International Security Forum held in Moscow. According to the report by Interfax’s correspondent, Taliban Defense Minister Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob held talks with Secretary of Russia's Security Council Sergei Shoigu on the sidelines of the event. Russian MoD, via X During the meeting, Yaqoob said that engagement with Russia is important for the Taliban-led administration and that both sides have been expanding their bilateral relations . He added that Afghanistan and Russia share historic ties and that Kabul aims to maintain and strengthen those relations. Shoigu urged western countries to release Afghanistan’s frozen assets and take responsibility for the country’s reconstruction during the event. “We are convinced that western countries must unfreeze frozen Afghan assets , fully acknowledge their full responsibility for their 20-year presence in Afghanistan, and assume the entire burden of post-conflict reconstruction of the country,” Shoigu said. One day later, on Thursday, Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister Vasily Osmakov met with Yaqoob in Moscow to discuss regional security and potential bilateral military cooperation. According to the ministry, the two sides addressed security issues in Central and South Asia, as well as the outlook for cooperation between their armed forces, including areas of military collaboration. Russia was the first to recognize the Taliban-led state that assumed control in Afghanistan in 2021 . The recognition took place in July 2025. US troops launched a hasty and chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan after the Taliban’s 2021 victory and subsequent takeover of the country. The US military left behind large amounts of equipment. An internal ...

Getty Images The YieldMax Gold Miners Option Income Strategy ETF ( GDXY ) thesis does not pass as a Buy in the current setup. Not because I am concerned about its ~46% distribution rate eroding NAV - that is genuinely a drag for investors who want to bet on long term income, but could still be of tactical cash flow and "quicker de-risking from the underlying" use. Not because of the known asymmetry of covered call strategies - of not being able to capture upsides as much as it absorbs downsides (although some covered call strategies do capture upside, but because of lower overwriting activity, which then fails to generate enough premiums in consolidation phases). Not because the gold miners portfolio is overheated. But because structurally, despite an aggressive option writing setup, it fails to generate enough income from the option strategy. The current backdrop increasingly suggests consolidation ahead, and downside risks are more open. That makes GDXY a Hold - not an income tool that can hope to monetize a GDX rally, nor adding alpha as the space cools. The Gold and Miners Thesis I remain extremely constructive about gold as an underlying asset to be monetized by covered call strategies, especially in the current backdrop. I am betting that gold is entering a slower, more normalized phase where returns are flatter, more volatile and less explosive than in 2025. In that environment, aggressive option overwriting becomes an advantage because it generates more income, limits some downside volatility and the opportunity cost of surrendered upside becomes much smaller. That is why I remain constructive on both IAUI and GLDI, with GLDI a preferred vehicle for the consolidation regime ahead for the downside mitigation it can offer (relevant for the current setup where some pullback cannot be ruled out). GDX does not have a similar level of constructive outlook as gold. There are supportive factors here like a still elevated gold price regime from where we were a year a...

Tema ETFs' Space Innovators ETF, which launched on March 30 and trades under the ticker symbol NASA , crossed $1 billion in assets in just 37 trading days, and by the end of this past trading week, had reached over $2.6 billion in assets. That rapid rise is due in part to retail investors hunting for exposure to SpaceX before it goes public. While SpaceX has taken an unusual approach to its offering, setting up access for retail investors through brokerage firms at a level atypical in new deals typically dominated by institutions, the NASA fund is another alternative for investors to gain access to Elon Musk 's rocket company. It already holds privately traded SpaceX shares directly. It is one of the few investment vehicles available to retail investors that does, with SpaceX currently representing around 7.5% of the fund. "If we're going to invest in space ... We have to offer exposure to SpaceX," said Maurits Pot, Tema ETFs founder and CEO on CNBC's "ETF Edge" on Wednesday. Pot said there is no plan to sell shares once the IPO occurs. "The IPO for us is simply a remarking of the position to market price," he said. Stock Chart Icon Stock chart icon NASA 1 M NASA isn't the only ETF that has access to SpaceX, though the options are limited. Mutual fund manager and billionaire Ron Baron, a long-time Tesla and SpaceX investor , owns the rocket company through his First Principles fund ( RONB ). Tesla is the top holding in the RONB ETF, at over 14%, while holding close to 2% of the fund's assets in SpaceX. The ERShares Private-Public Crossover ETF ( XOVR ), which offers access to late-stage private companies, also own...

D-Keine/iStock via Getty Images Dell ( DELL ) surged past analyst expectations for the first fiscal quarter on Friday amid accelerating demand for the company’s AI-optimized servers: as a result, the hardware company posted its highest-ever daily increase in market cap. Dell’s shares soared 33% on Friday, allowing the server maker to add a massive $68B to its market cap. The main reason for this explosive market reaction was, as already indicated, enormous growth in the enterprise-oriented Infrastructure Solutions Group which I previously highlighted as the company’s growth engine. Demand for AI servers is soaring, with major companies like Dell or Super Micro Computer ( SMCI ) struggling to meet demand. I like Dell and I have a very favorable outlook on Data Center-related CapEx spending, but such a steep increase in share price and market cap in a single day only leads me to one conclusion: It is time to sell the FOMO rally! Data by YCharts Previous rating I rated Dell a ‘Strong Buy’ in March 2026, citing the tech company's soaring AI-driven revenue backlog and enormous upside momentum in financial key figures for Dell’s Infrastructure Solutions Group: Impressive Growth Proposition . Since then, Dell's share price has gone parabolic and grown 186%. While I have a favorable view on the long-term utilization of Data Centers, investment spending and profitability for AI server makers, Dell's valuation now more than exceeds my fair value estimate and I would recommend investors to take profits here given the massively overbought state of the company's shares. Dell’s Q1’27 crushed estimates Dell flew past Wall Street expectations on both the top and bottom lines on Friday, the day after earnings, amid persistent demand for artificial intelligence-capable server infrastructure: the company reported non-GAAP earnings of $4.86 per-share, beating the consensus estimate by $1.90 per-share. Revenues trickled in at $43.8B, crushing the average prediction by a massive $8.1B. S...
