Trump’s missile-rattling isn’t helping anyone. At least that makes it easier to explain the world to my kid Were you bullied as a child? If so, congratulations. You are probably pretty interesting, or maybe you have an extreme body odor problem. Either way, you were noticeable enough to warrant being picked on by someone with extreme self-loathing or an even worse body odor problem. That’s the nature of bullying, though. The fact that you’re a target at all is a sign that something about you is remarkable. Total feckless duds don’t get bullied; they fade into the background, then become Democratic senators. The aim of the bully is to bring down someone they’re threatened by, to assert their dominance over a person who reflects their insecurities back on them so that they might feel more powerful while applying a vicious wedgie. I wasn’t bullied so much as teased verbally for being eccentric, biracial, vegetarian and not particularly tough. I also had a lisp thanks to having a gap in my front teeth for years prior to my parents mercifully getting me braces in middle school. I was an easy punchline for anyone looking to score points during lunch in the quad. Dave Schilling is a Los Angeles-based writer and humorist Continue reading...

Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder are TV’s funniest and nastiest odd-couple in this Emmy-winning smash hit. But co-creator and star Paul W Downs discusses why things are a lot sunnier and sillier for the pair in its final series It hit the Vegas Strip running. Since it crashed on to our screens in 2021, Hacks has been a critical darling. This tale of a pair of extremely different comics who end up working together takes the classic sitcom set up, injects it with some HBO gloss, and gives us a grippingly watchable central relationship that is frequently adorable – while also featuring some of TV’s most venomous putdowns. It has a 99% Rotten Tomatoes score, 12 Emmy wins, including outstanding comedy series in 2024, and has propelled its cast into the stratosphere. And it’s about to enter its final season ever. There’s nothing new about its ending, though. “The concept came to us in 20 … 15?” says Paul W Downs, who created the show with his wife, Lucia Aniello, and their creative partner Jen Statsky. They even had the ending in mind at the first meeting at which they pitched the show to HBO in 2019. “We really had it fully fleshed out, including the final episode, which we pitched to most networks.” Continue reading...

The bible-thumping US defense secretary is overseeing another strategic disaster in the Middle East. Is this a war or a crusade? Nine months and six days before a Tomahawk missile tore through the gaily decorated classrooms of the Shajareh Tayyebeh elementary school in Minab, Iran, ripping apart the bodies of schoolchildren, teachers, and parents, US defense secretary Pete Hegseth’s personal pastor delivered a sermon at the Pentagon. “There’s a temptation to think that you’re actually in control and responsible for final outcomes, especially for those who issue the commands and do the aiming and the shooting,” preached Brooks Potteiger, Hegseth’s closest spiritual adviser, at the first of what have become monthly Christian worship services at the Department of Defense. “But you are not ultimately in charge of the world.” Continue reading...

At the beginning of the year, growth investments sold off over fear that the AI trade had gotten ahead of itself. We've also seen private credit investments heavily hit and beaten down, with private credit managers selling off over fear of credit cockroaches, which was a fear popularized by the CEO of JPMorgan ( JPM ). This fear spread to private equity, in general, that the opportunities and deals they were making were likely overly risky for the value that they were returning. Now we've shifted to commodities becoming something people are concerned about, both originally with Venezuela dropping oil prices and now Iran hiking them. I love, as a data-driven, fundamentals-focused investor, to look beyond the news cycle and the noise floating around the market at the underlying fundamentals of a company. If the short-term share price moves rapidly, but the fundamentals of the company remain rock solid, I can recognize this as a sentimental shift, not a value shift. This can cause the companies' share price to become extremely undervalued versus what the company is truly worth at the fundamental level. Today, I want to take a look at a company that I highlighted at the beginning of the year before the wheels came off much of the market, and I want to look at it again and see if there has been a cataclysmic value change at the fundamental level or whether this is all sentimental noise blowing around so we can take a step to move beyond the chaos of day-to-day life and find clarity in the truth. FatCamera/E+ via Getty Images Introduction While searching Seeking Alpha’s “never covered” list of tickers, I came across a new ETF, the Tema Oncology ETF ( CANC ). Two years ago, within a day, both my father and wife succumbed to their decade-long fights against cancer. The fact that both far outlived their estimated life spans indicates the research and products and procedures the firms this ETF invests in are making a positive difference in the lives of not only cancer patients but their families as well. With its short history and CANC’s inconsistent return over that time period, I am giving CANC a Hold rating. That said, currently the Tema Oncology ETF is ranked second in the Quant Ranking Healthcare subclass, which is available on Seeking Alpha. Tema Oncology ETF review Data by YCharts Seeking Alpha describes this ETF as (edited): The Tema Oncology ETF is co-managed by Tidal Investments LLC. It invests in public equity markets of global region. The fund invests in stocks of companies operating across pharmaceutical firms, diagnostic focused businesses with products used to diagnose cancer, medical device companies focused on cancer treatment, and healthcare service providers with a specific strategic focus on helping treat and manage cancer sectors. The fund invests in growth and value stocks of companies across diversified market capitalization. It invests in stocks of companies that are deemed socially conscious in their business dealings and directly promote environmental responsibility. It employs fundamental and quantitative analysis with bottom-up and top-down stock picking approach to create its portfolio. It employs internal and external research to create its portfolio. The Tema Oncology ETF was formed on August 14, 2023. This ETF has $170MM in AUM and costs investors 75 basis points in fees. As will be shown later, annual dividend payments have a wide variation. The managers list three reasons they believe the focus of their ETF will provide investor...

Scott Olson/Getty Images News One company that has been doing very well so far this year is WD-40 Company ( WDFC ). Since I reaffirmed the business as a ‘hold’ candidate back in January of this year, the stock has jumped 18%. This is at a time when the S&P 500 is down 2%. This return disparity has been the result of a nice rise in revenue and cash flows, even if profitability has pulled back some. The latest development for the firm came on April 9th after the market closed. Management announced financial results covering the second quarter of the company's 2026 fiscal year. Revenue and earnings both came in above what analysts were hoping to see . And on an adjusted basis, management expects further growth this year compared to last year. Conceptually, this is great. The company is certainly on the right path. But the problem that I have with it is that shares are downright pricey. Because of how high quality the operator is, I won't go so far as to take a bearish stance on it. But even with this strong earnings release, I would argue that it makes for a better ‘hold’ than it does anything else. A great quarter from WD-40 Company Author - SEC EDGAR Data The second quarter of the 2026 fiscal year was a good time for shareholders of WD-40 Company. The business reported revenue of $161.7 million. That represented an increase of 10.7% over the $146.1 million that the business reported a year earlier. This ended up being $7.2 million above what analysts were hoping to see. According to the firm, this rise in revenue was driven largely by increased sales associated with its WD-40 Multi-Use Product, with revenue surging 12% from $113.7 million to $127.4 million. This product line saw growth across all the regions in which the company operates. In the Americas, for instance, revenue surged 9.8% from $51.1 million to $56 million. This increase was mostly because of higher sales volumes that the company got from some mass retailers and online retailers as it offered higher l...

The deal will help Anthropic build and deploy its Claude AI models, CoreWeave ( CRWV ) said Friday in a statement , sending shares up over 5% in premarket trading. "AI is no longer just about infrastructure, it’s about the platforms that turn models into real-world impact,” Michael Intrator , co-founder and CEO of CoreWeave ( CRWV ) said. The capacity will include a variety of Nvidia ( NVDA ) chip architectures at data centers in the U.S., Intrator told Bloomberg in an interview. The companies declined to disclose financial terms of the agreement. The collaboration between Anthropic - which is backed by Amazon ( AMZN ), Alphabet's ( GOOG ) ( GOOGL ) Google - and CoreWeave will initially focus on a phased infrastructure roll-out with the potential to expand over time, the companies said. According to a separate report , AI lab Anthropic ( ANTHRO ) is exploring the possibility of designing its own chips, as the company and its rivals respond to a shortage of AI chips needed to power and develop more advanced AI systems. Welcome to India Edition, Bloomberg’s daily dive into what’s moving the worlds of business, markets and politics in this dynamic, fast-paced economy. I’m Bloomberg’s South Asia Executive Editor, Jeanette Rodrigues , in Mumbai filling in for Menaka. If you didn’t receive this directly in your inbox, you can subscribe here , and share feedback with us here . Today I look at the upcoming negotiations between the US and Iran over the weekend, and my colleague Nic Querolo explains the latest setback for India’s transgender community. A Fragile Peace The world gasped in horror earlier this week when the US president took to social media to warn that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if Iran didn’t reopen the Strait of Hormuz. International figures including the UN chief and the Pope condemned Trump’s threat. Legal experts argued that singling out civilian infrastructure risked violating international law and posed an ethical quandary for the US military. Trump doubled down, saying Iran’s leaders were “ animals , and we have to stop them.” A devastating escalation was likely prevented only by “allies from across Trump’s coalition warning him not to follow through on a genocidal threat,” Bloomberg News reported in a gripping account of the talks hours before the deadline. Vice President JD Vance spent Tuesday speaking with officials mediating with Iran, including Pakistan’s field marshal, and America’s biggest rival — China — showed it had enough clout to convince Tehran to temper its actions and rhetoric. Vance will now travel to Islamabad over the weekend to meet his Iranian counterparts and try to convert a fragile ceasefire into a lasting peace. The Pakistani capital sits around the same latitude as the Kashmir Valley and, when I visited in February 2024, the sky was soft grey, and beautiful hills ringed its periphery. The Serena Hotel, where I stayed, reminded me of the Taj Palace with its carpeted floors, glittering chandeliers, and local musicians playing a lil...

Brian Kersmanc at GQG Partners LLC says a decision to empty his funds of tech companies more than a year ago is finally starting to pay off. Convinced that China’s low-cost DeepSeek products showed artificial intelligence was overhyped, he missed out on the blistering tech rally last year. AI became ubiquitous and firms made massive investments in data centers and chips. “We were way too early on this,” said Kersmanc, who helps oversee $173 billion across four equity strategies. “We got too skittish too quickly, but you don’t know when things are necessarily going to crack.” Now, investors are questioning whether the debt-funded rollout of AI infrastructure is sustainable, what the returns will be for big spenders, and whether memory-chip pricing is nearing a peak. Kersmanc’s Goldman Sachs GQG Partners International Opportunities fund has gone from the bottom third by performance last year to the top 5% in the first quarter of 2026 by focusing instead on utilities and consumer staples companies. “When you think about hyperscalers, the capex intensity is going absolutely through the roof,” he said. “We just don’t see them as high quality businesses.” His stance highlights a growing divide among investors over whether the AI-driven rally is sustainable, with four of the biggest tech firms expected to spend $650 billion on infrastructure this year alone. The Bloomberg Magnificent Seven Index of the biggest tech firms has retreated 8% so far this year, compared with a loss of 0.3% for the S&P 500 index. Renting a Lexus Intensifying competition will make AI cloud computing a tough business and the cost of renting a cutting-edge AI chip for an hour will tumble, he said, citing his firm’s research. That means lower profits for cloud providers, be it established players like Amazon.com Inc. ’s AWS or challengers like Nebius Group NV . “It’s like you buy a Lexus Luxury SUV for $50,000 and you’re renting it out for less than $3 an hour,” he said. “The math just doesn’t make s...
