Win McNamee/Getty Images News U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that Iran “really wants to make a deal,” as peace talks between Washington and Tehran entered another month at an impasse, while he criticized political opponents and some Republicans over their commentary on the negotiations. “Iran really wants to make a deal, and it will be a good one for the U.S.A. and those that are with us. But don’t the Dumocrats, and various seemingly unpatriotic Republicans, understand that it is MUCH tougher for me to properly do my job and negotiate, when political hacks keep negatively “chirping,” at levels never seen before, over and over again, that I should move faster, or move slower, or go to war, or not go to war, or whatever. Just sit back and relax, it will all work out well in the end - It always does!,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. His comments came after hostilities between the U.S. and Iran resumed over the weekend, with both sides reporting strikes on military targets near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route that carries roughly 20% of global oil flows. According to an Axios report published Saturday, Trump requested several changes to the latest proposal negotiated by U.S. envoys and Iranian officials. The report cited a senior administration official and another source familiar with the matter. Trump has repeatedly maintained that Washington and Tehran are close to reaching an agreement since a ceasefire took effect in early April, though negotiations have shown limited progress in recent weeks. The prolonged standoff and renewed military exchanges have continued to unsettle global oil markets. Oil prices were rising at press time, with crude oil futures ( CL1:COM ) up +3.3% to $90.2 a barrel, and Brent ( CO1:COM ) up +3% to $93.9/barrel. Powerful winds and rain expected in parts of Japan and Australia, while temperatures in Spain could hit 40C A powerful tropical storm is forecast to track near Okinawa, Japan, on Monday before moving towards the south-east of the country. Typhoon Jangmi (also known as Typhoon No 6) has formed within the monsoonal gyre over the Philippine Sea. A monsoonal gyre is a large, slow-rotating weather system that spawns typhoons through smaller vortices formed within it. This flow can intensify storms. Such typhoons are typically characterised by a broad areas of low pressure and extensive wind fields, often without a distinct eye. Continue reading...

Morning, I’m Chloé Meley from Bloomberg UK’s breaking news team, bringing you up to speed on today’s top business stories. You’re only considering buying us because we look cheap at the moment, is in effect what easyJet has told Castlelake . The budget airline said it hasn’t engaged in any talks with the investment firm, which announced late on Friday that it was considering a potential offer. But in its response this morning, easyJet called the timing “highly opportunistic”, given its struggling stock price, which has been pressured by higher fuel costs and flight disruptions arising from the conflict in the Middle East. EasyJet said it remained confident in its own strategy and cautioned on the “considerable” regulatory and financial challenges associated with a potential takeover, casting doubt on the “deliverability” of a deal. Separately, Castlelake said this morning it would be required to make an offer for EasyJet of at least 403.23 pence a share, and has until June 26 to either make a formal bid or walk away. The fuel price crisis could boost consolidation across the aviation industry, with British Airways-owner IAG recently saying that surging costs created an opportunity to snap up struggling rivals, and United Airlines floating the idea earlier this year of merging with American Airlines. However easyJet views the takeover interest, investors sent its shares up 13% in early trading. What’s your take? Ping me on X , LinkedIn or drop me an email at cmeley@bloomberg.net.
