Lightspeed Venture Partners investor Michael Mignano , notable for bets on consumer-facing artificial intelligence companies, is leaving the firm to join New York-based Union Square Ventures . In his three years at Lightspeed, he led the firm’s early bets on companies like AI music generation startup Suno and AI notetaking company Granola, and worked on its investments in Elon Musk’s xAI and Neuralink. Mignano is the latest high-profile investor to make the jump to a smaller firm . USV has been a fixture of New York’s startup scene since its 2003 founding, backing companies like Coinbase Global Inc., Twitter and Stripe. Mignano said he has long drawn on USV’s approach for his own investing, especially the firm’s strategy of investing early based on long-term predictions about a particular market. “I think the thesis-driven approach is very right for the moment we’re in, where having a genuinely non-consensus point of view becomes a real edge,” Mignano said. “Knowing what you’re looking for before it arrives is going to matter most when the scale and volume of startups is going to explode as a result of AI.” Starting this week, Mignano will be a general partner at USV, where he’ll invest in a broad range of categories, including consumer AI. “I hope he does lots more like Granola and Suno, but I hope he does more in other categories too,” said USV managing partner Rebecca Kaden . Consumer applications for AI — like making videos, answering questions and creating music — haven’t been the focus of the investing world recently. Even OpenAI, which pioneered consumer-facing chatbots with ChatGPT, has recently rolled out more business-focused technology. Lightspeed shook up its consumer investing strategy in 2024, putting a greater focus on AI-native companies and integrating the practice more tightly with the rest of the firm. Alex Taussig, co-head of the consumer practice, stepped back to take a board partner role. And in 2025, partners Nicole Quinn and Mercedes Bent lef...

Sumala Chidchoi/iStock via Getty Images Investment Thesis When I previously wrote about the prospects of the innovative company Bloom Energy Corporation ( BE ), the focus of my analysis was on the unique competitive advantage of their product, with its enormous potential in the race to power data centers. One of the main barriers to scaling computing infrastructure in the U.S. is the issue of accessing public power grids, mainly due to rising costs and the time required for connection. Not the cost, not access to energy sources, and not even their production, are the main issues that every hyperscaler is working to resolve. Previously, I recommended buying BE stock, so today I am upgrading my rating to Strong Buy. This change in the rating is primarily driven by recent news of the company’s expanded partnership with Oracle ( ORCL ), with plans to purchase up to 2.8 GW of fuel cells to support the rapid growth of its own data centers for AI applications. This also brings to light a second reason: a reduction in the risks associated with realizing the company’s potential as it scales up production. Such a partnership only confirms that BE’s strategic moat is becoming so deep that it is poised to become the winner in the battle for hyperscalers seeking to avoid the technological complexities and time constraints of traditional utility providers. Bloom's economic efficiency has been proven, while the conclusion of multi-billion-dollar contracts with partners such as ORCL clears the way for further growth in the company's market value. Previous Arguments The argument I made in my previous article on BE was that the development of data center computing infrastructure for AI applications and hyperscaler cloud services will contribute to the scaling of Bloom Energy power plants. What's more, a lot of them would be willing to pay a premium for electricity generation to ensure energy independence, as connecting to the U.S.'s public power grids comes with the problem of long c...

The software industry is racing to write code with artificial intelligence. It is struggling, badly, to make sure that code holds up once it ships. A survey of 200 senior site-reliability and DevOps leaders at large enterprises across the United States, United Kingdom, and European Union paints a stark picture of the hidden costs embedded in the AI coding boom. According to Lightrun's 2026 State of AI-Powered Engineering Report , shared exclusively with VentureBeat ahead of its public release, 43% of AI-generated code changes require manual debugging in production environments even after passing quality assurance and staging tests. Not a single respondent said their organization could verify an AI-suggested fix with just one redeploy cycle; 88% reported needing two to three cycles, while 11% required four to six. The findings land at a moment when AI-generated code is proliferating across global enterprises at a breathtaking pace. Both Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Google CEO Sundar Pichai have claimed that around a quarter of their companies' code is now AI-generated. The AIOps market — the ecosystem of platforms and services designed to manage and monitor these AI-driven operations — stands at $18.95 billion in 2026 and is projected to reach $37.79 billion by 2031. Yet the report suggests the infrastructure meant to catch AI-generated mistakes is badly lagging behind AI's capacity to produce them. "The 0% figure signals that engineering is hitting a trust wall with AI adoption," said Or Maimon, Lightrun's chief business officer, referring to the survey's finding that zero percent of engineering leaders described themselves as "very confident" that AI-generated code will behave correctly once deployed. "While the industry's emphasis on increased productivity has made AI a necessity, we are seeing a direct negative impact. As AI-generated code enters the system, it doesn't just increase volume; it slows down the entire deployment pipeline." Amazon's March outages ...

But what really makes it special is its comparatively low price of $349.99. High-refresh OLED monitors are great for gaming but also nice for everyday use, thanks to their strong contrast, vibrant colors, and their ability to smoothly display motion across your desktop. The AW2726DM makes the whole formula more approachable, as fancier gaming OLEDs typically run $500 to $900 or higher (and that's not cou … Read the full story at The Verge.

Michael Vi/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Market swings like a pendulum, from outsized optimism to extreme pessimism. This saying couldn't be more true for Palantir Technologies ( PLTR ). In 2025, Palantir's shares skyrocketed over 150%, as the demand for its AIP platform surged, and it's commercial segment in US delivered blowout growth. Last year, Palantir was one of the best performing stocks in S&P 500 ( SP500 ), as it hit all-time high of $208/share. Unfortunately, the same isn't true in 2026. The stock is down -28% on a year-to-date basis thanks to a perfect storm of events: fears over competition from cheaper Anthropic tools, valuation concerns and software stocks sell-off, and general weak market sentiment driven by the fears of re-surging inflation due to Iran war which could push interest rates higher (harmful to growth firms). You see, it's a handful of reasons. But, should in fact shareholders be worried? Palantir's shares were ridiculously overpriced in 2025 and the stock price weakness is in fact bringing the shares to a longer-term healthier environment. But, $100/share a scenario isn't off the table as the pressure continues. Data by YCharts Previous Coverage My last Palantir's coverage titled "2026 - The Year Of Palantir" hasn't played out well. Since published in January, the firm's shares are down -29% and if we were to judge my call based on performance, I would get an underscored F. The whole article was centered around Palantir's valuation - as this was and still is a center piece of conversation. At the beginning of the year, the firm's shares traded for P/E of 244x, or 120x its revenue. I don't know any investor, for whom this isn't too steep of a valuation to justify buying the stock. That's why I never in the last two years rated Palantir as a buy, despite admiring the success and the top/bottom-line growth. Yet, I argued we shouldn't look at the valuation just black-and-white and ignore the forward growth. 30-40% annual EPS growth for P...
