Hegseth’s unusual intervention violated promotion rules designed to be merit-based and apolitical, the New York Times said on Tuesday , and extended the Trump administration’s push to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the military. We’ve looked at data from USA 1994 onwards to see how and when classic upsets take place – and what that could mean for this year’s competition This year, the biggest ever World Cup will feature 48 teams, an increase from 32, opening up the tournament to even more upsets, shocks and surprises. The vagaries of the World Cup draw have given rise to classic underdog victories over the years, from an amateur USA team’s shock defeat of the then-favourites England in 1950 onwards. But what does the data tell us about upsets in football’s modern era? Upsets are marked in red, while matches decided on penalties are represented with a white border. Continue reading...

There is at least one new face for England, with Emilio Gay confirmed to make his debut at opener after patience with Zak Crawley finally snapped. There is an old one too, with Ollie Robinson back from the cold and set to take the new ball after convincing the management that he is now a committed professional. Continue reading...

After all, a trillion-dollar company needs to create an enormous amount of value to deliver strong returns from here. But investors may be asking the wrong question. The real question is not whether Micron has become too large. The real question is whether artificial intelligence has transformed memory from a commodity into one of the world's most important bottlenecks. The answer could determine whether Micron's best days are behind it -- or still ahead. Continue reading

Moussa81/iStock via Getty Images SSR Mining ( SSRM ) down 1.9% in Wednesday's trading as precious metal prices fell, but RBC Capital upgraded shares to Outperform from Sector Perform with a $40 price target, saying strategic transactions to effectively exit Turkey have transitioned it to a lower jurisdiction risk, Canada- and U.S.-focused company. Canada and the U.S. now represent 88% of SSR Mining's ( SSRM ) total net asset value and 79% of EBITDA following the miner's two major transactions this year, the $1.5B divestiture of Copler and the conversion of a 20% equity interest in Hod Maden to a 4% royalty, both set to close in Q3. RBC analysts John Wolfson and John Robertson project SSR ( SSRM ) will maintain more than $2B in net cash as of Q3, representing nearly one-third of market cap and providing the company with significant financial flexibility, and see shares as discounted with capital allocation updates as driving further upside to shares. Given SSR's ( SSRM ) significant free cash flow, valuation, and prior actions such as Q2's $300M share buyback), Wolfson and Robertson believe return of capital will remain a company priority and would be accretive at current prices; a higher share price could shift SSR's calculus to growth or M&A, but the analysts see current prices as undervaluing the probability of accretive capital allocation.
