Boarding1Now/iStock Editorial via Getty Images SkyWest ( SKYW ) heads into Q1 with a lot of momentum behind it. That backs up my earlier Buy call. Since my last check-in, the stock’s up just 0.68%, from $93.67 to $94.91, basically flat, and it’s still well off the 52-week high of $123.94 from August. The sideways trading since November might make you think about sitting on the fence, but when I go...
The sideways trading since November might make you think about sitting on the fence, but when I go through what’s in the latest 10-K, the earnings call and the latest press releases , I see a different story. The fundamentals and the way the market’s pricing the stock aren’t lining up. The main reason to stay bullish is the solid performance in both the numbers and the day-to-day business. For 2025, SkyWest brought in $4.1 billion in total operating revenue, up 15% from $3.5 billion last year. Profits grew even faster: net income jumped to $428.3 million, or $10.35 per diluted share, compared to $323 million and $7.77 for 2024. Block hours went up by 14.7% even though they had 1% fewer planes in service (487 now). So, they’re squeezing more out of every aircraft, thanks in part to a steadier pipeline of pilots and more available captains. That’s showing up as higher earnings per asset. Contract flying still makes up the bulk of business, but they’ve also pushed further into prorate and charter work, which grew by 33.5% in revenue and is giving them more ways to make money. Author, Alpha Vantage Cash And Guidance Management keeps saying this rebound in the business isn’t just a blip. The Q4 call lays it out: pretax income hit $566 million for 2025, up 31% on a 15% jump in block hours. That tells you they’re getting a lot more out of every extra flight hour. EBITDA came in at $982 million, about $100 million better than last year. Free cash flow topped $400 million for 2025. They put that money to work: paid down $492 million in debt, part of a 10% reduction in debt since the end of 2024, from $2.7 billion to $2.4 billion, and bought back $85 million in shares, double the...
GummyBone/iStock Editorial via Getty Images My Las Vegas Zoox experience Amazon ( AMZN ) is a stock I keep adding to, even though it's stuck in a pattern between $200 and $250 without a lot of indication that it can break out of that range anytime soon. This is fine by me, and Amazon is one of the long-term holdings that I anticipate only adding to with too many catalysts to count. Amongst the hyp...
Amongst the hyperscalers in the Mag 7, Amazon may get most of the profit from cloud computing, but the low-margin, high-volume retail business is unique amongst the group. This retail component makes me believe that Amazon is the most likely to be able to grow the top line out of the group, regardless of the world economy being in recession or expansion. Amazon is also one of the top spenders on Research and Development and investment activities [on the cash flow statement], which can also include acquisitions. A 2020 acquisition, Zoox, was a product I finally was able to experience. Amazon Owns 100% of This Company First off, Amazon owns all of Zoox, which was purchased in 2020 for $1.2 Billion . With a lot of excitement around Tesla's ( TSLA ) robo-taxi business and Google's ( GOOG )( GOOGL ) Waymo, I'm surprised Zoox doesn't get more hype. The first public rides started in Las Vegas in 2025, and we were finally able to try one this spring break. My Impressions Zoox.com First off, this thing is unique in the US robo-taxi world. It has no steering wheel and 4 facing seats, two at each end of the vehicle. Zoox.com Each individual gets a mini tablet that can scroll through Pandora music playlists and adjust the climate control. I was able to see this thing in action both in the daytime and at night. The current route that the Zoox traverses in Las Vegas just goes from one end of Las Vegas Boulevard to the other, with several stops at many of the prized properties along the strip. We waited for the first ride after downloading the Uber-esque app at the Wynn for nearly an hour as we watched ...
