Nvidia Unveils New AI Open Model, Sparking Rally In Quantum Stocks Nvidia unveiled the world's first open-source AI models to accelerate the development of quantum computing. The news sent shares of several Asian software and cybersecurity firms soaring and sparked a rally in U.S.-listed quantum stocks in premarket trading. Nvidia's Ising open-model family is designed to improve two critical areas: quantum processor calibration and quantum error correction. Nvidia claims the models deliver calibration capabilities it describes as industry-leading, while its decoding tools operate 2.5 times faster and achieve up to 3x greater accuracy than traditional open-source approaches. "AI is essential to making quantum computing practical," Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated. Jensen continued, "With Ising, AI becomes the control plane, the operating system of quantum machines, transforming fragile qubits into scalable and reliable quantum-GPU systems." In South Korea, shares of software and cybersecurity firms, including Axgate Co. and ICTK Co., jumped to the 30% daily trading limit. China's GuoChuang Software Co. and QuantumCTek Co., along with Japan's Fixstars Corp., rose at least 8%. In the U.S., D-Wave Quantum Inc. (QBTS) rose 10%, while IonQ Inc. A new legal fight between the developer and main supplier of America’s first large offshore wind project shows how the industry’s woes extend beyond a White House campaign to thwart its growth. Vineyard Wind , off the coast of Massachusetts, sued GE Vernova Inc. in state court last week, accusing the turbine maker of improperly terminating agreements and abandoning construction and maintenance work on the $4.5 billion development. Vineyard, whose developers include Iberdrola SA’s Avangrid and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, said it withheld payments from GE Vernova following delays to the project, including when a busted turbine blade washed ashore in 2024. That incident left debris strewn across beaches on Nantucket and triggered anger from residents on the wealthy island. GE Vernova said Vineyard Wind failed to pay more than $300 million for more than 18 months of work, noting it recently completed installation of all 62 turbines. “The dispute exposes how execution risk has intensified to the point where even near‑completed, 800‑megawatt projects with tier‑one partners can face potential default and foreclosure,” said Diego Espinosa, a senior research analyst at Wood Mackenzie. The lawsuit is the latest sign that little comes easy for US offshore wind. Even with support from former President Joe Biden earlier this decade, inflation and supply-chain snags scuppered contracts and caused delays. Donald Trump has since issued multiple orders to halt projects , further battering the sector. Vineyard Wind’s developers won a court injunction in January that allowed them to resume construction. Concurrently, the company announced that it issued approximately 1.9M shares of the company in total as part of private debt-for-equity exchange transactions it entered into with unrelated parties. The equity offering comes six weeks after Tilray ( TLRY ) acquired strategic assets of BrewDog, a multinational craft beer business, including its brand and U.K. brewing operations, for a total consideration of $40M (£33) last month. Additionally, on Wednesday, the company announced the acquisition of Lyphe Group, a UK-based medical cannabis clinic and digital pharmacy platform. While financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, Rajnish Ohri, TLRY’s president of international operations, noted that Lyphe could be accretive to the company's bottom line in 2027. The 1.9M share issuance will be in exchange for convertible debt worth $12M in principal terms, the Leamington, Canada-based company said in a regulatory filing. As part of the transactions, Tilray ( TLRY ) exchanged 5.20% convertible senior notes due June 15, 2025, for roughly 1.9M shares of the company’s common stock , with a par value of $0.0001 per share. In its Q3 financials for fiscal 2026 earlier this month, Tilray ( TLRY ) reported about $264.8M in cash, restricted cash, and marketable securities as of Feb. 28, indicating a ~7% YoY improvement.
